I hiked this trail 2 years ago at the age of 63, with former college friends on a reunion trip. We did the full hike and it was a good challenge, but other than the distance, would rate it as "easy". It was a beautiful trail with a wide variety of sights along the way, one of my favorites in Glacier.

Beautiful trail to summit of lion mountain. Unfortunately the clouds and snow began before we reached the top and the view was obscured.

Decided to make an attempt to try this trail since I did not get to do it in the summer. Knew the trail would be icy, but had just purchased some Yaktrac’s, plus the trail had just got four inches of snow on it. Followed one set of tracks in, and not long into the trip, met a young woman coming back down. Trail was steep, but snow helped with traction. Finally got to where the hiker before me turned around and thought, I can’t resist going a little further and break the fresh snow. Glad I did, got to a beautiful view point. Believe I was only two miles into the hike, so it is back on my list for completion. Any day in nature is a good day, so I enjoyed the part I did do.

Easy hike! beautiful view at the end and a fun place to swim or cool off. Young or old this is a good hike for everyone.

Freaking beautiful- past the overlook

This hike was our first one in Glacier! It was busy but we were there over the 4th of July. Go early regardless during the busy season so parking isn’t an issue. Literally saw people yelling at each other in the parking lot for spots. The snow was still on the mountain on our way up and pretty entertaining as some folks had flip flops on attempting the trek. So wear tennis shoes! Once you get to the overlook YOU GOTTA KEEP GOING! The way down to the lake was beautiful and then once you get there it takes your breath away. Picture perfect views and a fun spot to spend time taking it all in. There had been “grizzly activity” the day before but we didn’t see any ( wheh) but we saw a few sheep, goats, chipmunks and what I think is a marmot!! Way back up is strenuous but doable if you walk or hike often.

Gorgeous lake. Nice hike.

January hike. Very, very icy. We had yaktrax on and had a hard time in places. Good views. Well traveled; saw 4 other groups in 3 hours of hiking. Would be great snowshoe if there was a lot of snow.

Amazing views of the lake, with peaks above you and waterfalls galore.. Very crowded with people in the summer months. Went with a group, which is recommended as to not have to try and figure out the bear spray.

A nice trail, not terribly hard but will be very busy during the summer months. Plan to get an early start if you want a quiet trail because it’s popular with families

Nice get away trail in the summer time. It's all about timing. Got to enjoy the lake with very a little amount of people.

Beautiful quick hike - if you’re able, make it down to the lake, just be prepared for the stairclimb back up.

Paved trail, nice little get-away. Very light hike. We went off the trail and down to the river to make the trip a little more exciting. Pretty views if you can get down there!

Pretty cool trail! Somewhat strenuous. Great views of the valley to be had here.

Got to hike this in the snow, it was an epic experience. Lots of slipping and sliding, but tons of fun. One of my favorite hikes ever.

Decent views on the trail and at the lake. Water took on an amazing shade of aquamarine. It was the most underwhelming hike in Glacier NP for us. Way too crowded. Very little change in elevation, views weren't as dramatic as I hoped.

Our whole family ages 7-47 lived this hike. The view at the lake was amazing!

Highly recommended! Gently rolling, well-marked trail right alongside this spectacularly beautiful lake--fantastic views on all parts of the trail. A bit of an uphill and rocky the last 1/3-1/2 mile as you make your way up to the Falls, but so worth it once you get up there. I went just after Labor Day and did not have issues with the mosquitoes as some have mentioned. You're in bear country, of course, so be smart and carry bear spray, make noise as you go and preferably, unlike me, do not hike alone--I saw no bears (or bear scat on the trail) on my hike. Would be a beautiful lake to kayak or canoe, also--pristine, clear and beautiful waters, gorgeous coves. Easy hike for just about everyone I would think (although steep toward the falls). I'll be taking this hike again!

Beautiful hike with beautiful views! Bring lots of water and enjoy lunch at the lake.

I got to the trail head right at 4pm and hiked at full pace and made it to the lake in about 20min even with recording video of a white tail buck crossing the trail about 40 yards ahead of me. The trail was frozen and slippery in some areas. I made it back with barely any daylight left in the forested trails(there were two groups of hikers behind me that I passed)

Wonderful hike in its entirety. Beautiful scenery, relaxing river ambiance with impressive rock formations (carvings) and a remarkable reward once you hit the lake.

Great trail. You can tailor it to skill level. Either hike to just the lookout point, or continue down to the lake.

Awesome, easy hike through beautiful scenery.

Beautiful trail through the trees. Uphill on the way out to the lake. It snowed while we were there end of sept. Very popular hike. Beautiful waterfall on the trail of the cedars. The avalanche trail also runs along a creek which was very pretty.

The hike itself is super mellow and family friendly. HIGHLY recommend the nearby campground. Wrote up a post on Holland Lake with pics if anyone is interested: https://practicalvagabonds.com/holland-lake-montana/

Hiked this with two young kids. We had to carry them most of the way, but we made it to the lake in about an hour. The view at the end was well worth it.

Everything about this hike is perfection... but don’t cut it short. Go to both ends of the lake. You’re missing out if you don’t see the view from the opposite shore. Plus fewer people go the full distance so it’s a little more peaceful.

One of the prettiest fall color trails you will find in early October. The drive in passes many striking fall scenes as well.

One the most beautiful trails I have hiked. Breathtaking, serene lake and heavenly waterfalls. Lots of wildlife.
