Beautiful waterfall, and scenic trail that follows mostly along the creek. There are roots and rocks to climb in several places but not too difficult. I agree with the moderate rating. The waterfall is well worth the effort! Be sure to program the coordinates for the trailhead before you leave home. No phone signal there, and the shorter (1.2 mile) trail is unmarked on the forest road. The forest road also is unmarked, so setting navigation in advance will help there too! There’s a trail marker early on the trail, just across a wooden footbridge, so you’ll know you found the right place.
Worth the effort
It was wonderful to walk along the river and to see so many mini-falls and then the Vanhook falls at the end Crossing the creek 28 times there and back was also really fun!
Nice parking lot at the trailhead, park and walk across the "Y" intersection to start! We brought 5 kids and 2 dogs, it took longer but everyone accomplished it! We encountered quite a few slithering friends, and the falls were worth the journey. Only word of caution is that it's slippery in quite a few spots, so wear good shoes!
Absolutely LOVED this trail !!! Long but easy to manage. My 4 y/o did the whole trail ..... many many waterfalls and a few creeks to Wade and spend lots of time in ! My kids love a good creek walk !! Only warning is no bathroom at trailhead :-)
Beautiful trail. Scenery is fantastic. Lots of great water holes to cool off this summer. We took shorter hike which is about 3 miles down gravel road to trail head. According my Apple Watch it’s about 1.5 miles hike to waterfall and back out. Trailhead not marked but will be 2nd trailhead on left, Trail is not too difficult. A little bit of root and small rock scrambling. Nothing too major. Watch for snakes. We saw a black snake before we descended down to waterfall.
The hike after you cross the wooden bridge is about 1 mile out and 1 mile back. Lots of roots and several places that were up and down but not awful. We were a group of 5 retired 65-74 yo friends and we made it with no issues. Absolutely gorgeous hike, one of the most beautiful we’ve done.
Beautiful trail-my daughters and I loved it and had fun playing around down by the falls.
The directions on All Trails took us exactly to the trailhead but there is NO signage and NOT a parking lot. The road is a gravel road and when you get to the trailhead, there will be a few pull off spots for parking and a huge metal corrugated drainage tile under the gravel road. You will know you are at the right place when you start down the trail and there is almost an immediate wooden cable bridge. After you cross the bridge, there is signage for the falls. It says 1 mile to the falls but it is more like 2.5 miles to the falls and 2.5 miles out for a total of 5 miles round trip. The falls is beautiful and so smooth! It’s not huge but worth the hike for sure. Don’t miss driving over to view Cumberland Falls while you are there. It is massive and no hiking involved.
Beautiful trail! Nice gravel parking lot with map and trailhead signs! Lots of pretty waterfalls, though some were hard to see through the spring growth... Not that I'm complaining about that! It was a perfect day in the woods! This trail included one of my favorites: crossing streams on rocks!!
Great trail to a great waterfall! A few areas of steep rocks or roots to climb like stairs. Leads to a great viewing point of the falls.
Beautiful trail
This trail is awesome. Beautiful and a nice length. It is pretty muddy however. It also has a nice balance of elevation.
Incredible hike. So beautiful. Easy hike to the Falls, moderate to the river. Great family hike. Plan for extra time to play on the sand near the waters edge.
No clue this trail existed! Pleasantly surprised. With all the recent rain I expected more mud but hardly any. Our dogs had a GREAT time!
This is my first time hiking this trail and it was a little muddy in places but oh so worth it! There are so many mini waterfalls to see along the way it is well worth the distance. There’s only a few spots that would be a little difficult for smaller children or dogs once you get closer to Vanhook Falls but still worth hiking even if you don’t make it all the way to Van Hook Falls. There is so much beauty to see.
Excellent! Absolutely beautiful hike! Felt very tropical!
Crossed 17 creeks! At least a dozen falls! Absolutely stunning fun hike. Put on must do list.
The closer trailhead (there's 2, and 1 will start much closer to the falls) had all of its parking spaces full, so we went to the farther one. We never made it to the waterfall; we decided to turn around because we knew we were on the wrong trail. There was a lot of rail recently and it's flood season in KY so be careful of the river. Some sections of the portion we did were rather strenuous, (some small overflow streams to leap among other things). Still fun though, but I'd take the closer trailhead next time.
Gorgeous waterfall! Short but strenuous trail!
Words can't describe how breathtaking this waterfall was! The trail conditions were terrible because of the earlier storm but it was honestly worth it. At a couple points I had to actually wade through the river to get to the rest of the trail. The current was strong and if I didn't keep one strong point of contact at all times I could have easily been swept away. EPIC hike!
Went last weekend was a great waterfall trip for a family hike!!
This was one of my favorite Trails in Kentucky. Trails is well maintained and clear with multiple places to go off the main trail to experience small waterfalls. Beautiful hemlock forests. Van Hook falls was very nice.
Great trail, with around 12 waterfalls along the way.
