Went after the first snowfall in the area. Avid hiker so I figured the easy rating would allow me to do it in the snow without spikes. Do not attempt without micro spikes because the last .5 miles to the top is super slippery. Beautiful views, trail isn’t marked but obvious where the foot traffic is.

beautiful hike

Super Trail très belle vue monter abrupte qui offre plusieurs petits défi pour débutants mais se fait bien

A great hike that would’ve been a lot easier had it not been for the frequent mud jumping. The views from the tower were stunning and I even saw a guy hiking in sandals

Snowy, muddy and slippery today but still a great hike. Gradual climb with lots of bridges and stairs.

We did this hike in possibly the worst weather conditions. Pouring rain so bad the trail became a stream. At the top it was mixed rain and sleet. On a nice day I would rate this trail moderately easy, under the conditions I did it in , it was all but easy.
I would do this again when conditions are favorable.

Did goodnow today. Very nice hike. Fire tower was in good shape. Nice view :)

I loved this hike! Did on 10./18, already snow covered. We were the only ones at the summit. Did the shorter way up and longer way down. Absolutely amazing views of the snow capped high peaks.

This was my first ADK hike. We brought our 15 year old dog, who found it pretty fun and easy. It can definitely get a bit steep at parts, but nothing too difficult at all. There are two nice lookouts at the summit. I would recommend this for beginners. We took the left trail up, but had a hard time staying on trail with all the leaves hiding the path. Pretty short hike but definitely rewarding.

Did this Mtn trail a few months ago with my girlfriend. It was a nice relatively easy hike until the last section. Great views from the summit!!! Did this hike also with a friend in the winter and it was okay.

Beautiful hike to the top, light traffic

We took the short hike up which was quite steep and mostly jumping over the big rocks. Don’t recommend if it is icy or snowing, could be dangerous. View at the top was very nice.

Nice short loop with going up is steep sometimes, going down is easy.

Trail marked strangely, parking is limited and trail can be tricky to find. Moderate hike with beautiful views at the top. We love the waterfall! Very dog friendly. Went on a October Saturday and only ran into one group of people.

An easy hike I’ve been doing since I was little with my family. Beautiful views and the tower is pretty cool!

Beautiful hike with great views!! Heavily trafficked, but still worth doing!

Way way too busy. Can’t enjoy the hike or the summit. Another victim of its own success. Parking lots and sides of road over run with cars. Inconsiderate people plying music and partying in summit. Not fun at all.

I love trails like this. It's a rock scramble almost immediately. The boulders you're stepping on, over, and around act like a natural staircase.

The short trails is short and steep. Before long you're staring at Algonquin, Marcy, and a few other peaks, with Heart Lake shimmering directly below.

We took the short trail back down.

Breathtaking views at the summit and several points on the way up as well. The trail is clearly marked and well traveled. Steady uphill climb with some rocky parts to keep it interesting. I went to see the fall foliage and was not disappointed in the slightest!

Beginner hiker. Was a challenging but doable climb. We walked from Hotel Saranac to the trailhead, ascended the unmarked trail (left) and descended on the marked (right), and back to the hotel topping out around 4 miles. Including about 30 mins at the summit finished the mountain itself it about 2.5 hours. Nice views from the top but a little blocked by trees at summit - still a rewarding view. Encouraged me to try for Saranac 6ers!

I took the blue trail up. Starts off relatively flat and easy. Becomes steep with many scrambles towards the top. The summit has several spots for some great views. This was a nice pleasant walk through the woods with a good moderately challenging climb, depending on your skill level. Some may find the blue trail more difficult. I took the yellow trail down which saved my knees. It adds some distance to the way back but it was nice. There is a small area with a creek closer to the lot. I would do this again.

Great hike, excellent views the whole way

Long walk through the woods , not much for views until the peak

parking payant
belle randonnée
première partie difficile car le sentier est en roche , nous avons pris le chemin court. cela monte à pic.
si mal aux genoux ou autre... passez votre chemin.
peu de monde sur le sentier en septembre.
balisage moyen.

Great little hike, it won't take you all day which gives you time to explore Lake Placid and everything around it.

10/13/18 Trail was covered in the changing leafs but pretty easy to follow. The top of the tower was so beautiful. Saw a rainbow on the top! Must go for sure!

This was the 1st Fire Tower of the Fire Tower Challenge for my boy and I. He had just turned 5 when we did it, and he had no trouble.

Fairly short and has a fantastic view. I think i was lucky that this was the first mountain that we did, because he loved it, and it made him want to come back for more.

This was the 4th fire tower challenge for my 5 year old an I (brought the wife along on this one).

Day was wet, so that along with the leafs covered rocks and ankle breaker roots made for slow going. Took us 2h up and 1.5h down.

There is one section near the top where you enter an evergreen grove that is covered with hanging moss. The day we did it the mountain top was fogged in. When we entered this section my boy stopped us and said "it looks like we are on another planet". He was right.

The fire tower is super tall, unfortunately for us, we did it on peak color change, but had no view.

We will probably do this one again on our way to completing the fire tower challenge, just so we get to see the view.
