Amazing views!

Beautiful hike.

Great hike! Just be watchful of bears. We spotted one about 15/20 feet from us while doing the hike not even half way in.

An easy, pleasant hike with an abundance of wildflowers. White-crowned sparrows greet you from the tall grasses and ravens croak overhead. During the right months of spring or winter, you might see multiple grey whales migrating along the coast. Bring some binoculars and take in the views.

I loved this hike! Took my boyfriend for his birthday and it was lovely, BUT it was horrible the way back because we did not bring enough water. Please bring more than you think you need!!

Nice mix of rocky path and forested trail, sun and shade.

My favorite trail in SF

Really enjoyed this hike. Lots of variations in terrain and options for trails. A beautiful breeze coming off the river almost the whole hike. It gets really hot and a lot of the trail is not shaded - so even if you get an early start it is probably better for a fall/winter hike. Bring plenty of water. Lots of poison oak in parts. Trail is also used by horses and mountain bikers so you need to be on the lookout.

Gorgeous. Go at low tide and spend plenty of time at the tide pools.

Does anyone know exactly what you are supposed to do when you get to river level? The trail map shows the trail going quite a bit past this point, but I couldn't really find a trail either time. Is it map wrong, are you supposed to climb through the rocks, or is there another trail hidden somewhere?

I did this hike in the early April and again in late July. Great hike both times, but it was definitely better in the spring when there are wildflowers, more water flowing, and it is quite a bit cooler. I started around 7:30 AM both times. Hike down to the river was pretty easy...and I didn't think the hike back was too bad, except for the increase in heat and a few points that were a little strenuous.

This trail had beautiful views of the river and had it not been for the heat wouldn't have been too hard. Bring plenty of water. Parking is free but the lot is pretty small.

The views are amazing. I don't think it was a mile.

Nice hike in San Francisco with beautiful views of Golden gate . I'm not sure if weekdays is busy as weekends . trail was pretty crowded for that Saturday but it defenetly worst that to see scenario views and do some cardio at same time .

Beautiful hike! It is moderate and goes around the bay :-)
Nice views of Golden Gate all the way. If you want to hike all the way to Golden Gate, you need to walk through BEAUTIFUL homes in SF! The one's which are like my Dream Homes! Oh well moving on, the hike is simple walk from the trail end to GG.

I would rate this hike as easy / moderate! Some elevation which is nullified by the beautiful views.

It is about 6 miles total from the parking area. Very very rocky in the beginning. Almost impossible to run. It’s worth it as you get to the summit and then a great run back to the parking area. Running up to the summit is really hard at a high altitude! Beautiful area!

Kinda just went and did it. Wish we had prepared for the hike. Went @halfway to river and headed back. Well be back to finish. Gorgeous landscapes... just when you’ve had enough exposure you’re blessed with shade.

This is not an easy trail. Bring 4 quarts of water during the warm months.

Amazing wild flowers end of June through July

The hike is very beautiful with views of golden gate and fairly moderate trail with mostly flat terrain. We got there early(by 7.00 am) , so the parking was ample and the trail was less trafficked. The weather was just perfect for a hike.

Great views, not always clear and usually windy. Definitely a fairly easy walk and great for dogs.

Definitely come here early in the morning. Just went on July 15, and we were glad we got there early at 8:30. Got the trial to ourselves and made it down to Eagle’s point. We hung out for a bit and circled around to the Legion of Honors museum and made our way back down to the coastal trail. On the way back there were a TON of people. Glad we came early to secure parking and made sure we didn’t have to walk side by side with everyone else that just start the trail. Great scenes here and there for a quick photo with the bridge. Will come again soon, but a lot earlier to get the trails to ourselves.

The trail starts of fairly rocky and smoothed out again until you get closer to the top. Very nice scenery throughout the hike. View from the top is a nice payoff. No water so bring what you’ll need plus food. Did it in early July and saw lots of wild flowers. Well marked. Hard to get lost. It took us three hours with stops.

This was a fun hike with a friend. Lots of great views and the weather was perfect since we live in the valley. Nice day trip to get out of the heat and get in some fun exercise. Would definitely do it again.

On many recommendations, four friends and I took the trail early on a Sunday morning. None of us were super-experienced hikers, but the experience was fantastic. Going early was huge—the return trip was very warm, making the ascent a bit tougher. There’s a slight fork near the river; we went right which was a rocky shortcut to some nice pools and view. As a novice wearing tennis shoes, there were a few spots on the way down that felt tricky, but the return ascent posed almost none; those same spots were much easier to go up than down, even factoring in fatigue. The reviews on here provided excellent advice: we avoided the poison oak, we brought water (though needed more than 32 oz apiece returning in the heat), and sunscreen was crucial for my fairer complexion. I had been afraid of heights since I was a little kid, so there were moments where the openness and elevation did hit me, but I didn’t actually have much trouble—I just focused a lot on the way down. Hikers along the trail were all friendly and patient with our inexperienced group, and I had a memorable time and would love to do it again in the future (wearing boots though).. Happy hiking!

Fun hike! Perfect length! Good amount of difficulty, enough that makes for a good workout but not too much where you feel like you need to take a bunch of breaks. Gorgeous views and was pleasantly surprised it led down to the water! I’ll be back!

Great views, stairs help with the steeper paths.
