Greats views of the straight. A couple up:down hill sections but worth the effort. First part is steep but not too long.

Nice trail. Shade for about 50% of time

Very nice short hike with some beautiful views at the top. Pretty steep climb at the beginning but then pretty easy. If you’re going in the summertime recommend going early because there’s not a whole lot of shade.

Nice hike (loop) from Alhambra Creek station. Partially shaded, wide trails leading up to the lagoons at the top of the trail with clear views across the bay on a clear day. This is a fair weather hike.

I love this trail. It’s a nice shady trail. As another post says the trail can easily be extended. We did witness lots of wild life even late afternoon. Only minor issue was that it’s a horse trail so watch where you step as you go on the trail.

This is a great loop. We start at 7am and very few people is any at this time.

Beautiful loop through a fairly diverse landscape, along rock formations, creeks, meadows, cow pasture, forest. Easy to extend the hike if you're motivated, we made it an 8 mile loop.

I run here a lot. great place close to home. love this little trail!

Good trail and not over crowded with tons of people. Someone mentioned below about the tick warning and that wasn't a joke. We purposely wore knee high white socks and pulled almost a dozen off and we didn't stray off trail, they're just that narrow and overgrown right now. We checked ourselves before getting in the car but backpacks must have even had them cause we found 2 in the car after. Gorgeous weather and tons of greenery right now, but not sure I'd go again this time of year

I live 3 miles from this trailhead. Great short 3 mike hike. If you go early Morning like I get to do it’s great, very little people. Falcons nest. Red tail hawk nest. Stellar’s Jays, Quail, Turkeys, lots of birds. The Ranger is a super nice guy.We have even seen a Bobcat.

Just don’t go in the afternoon with the crowds of loud groups of people.

My go to short hike.

Franklin Ridge Loop is one of my favorite little loops. I suggest an alternate route, which skips the steep climb from the parking lot. Instead keep driving out on Carquinez Scenic Drive (west) instead of taking the left turn into the parking lot. The road stops at a gate, but just before that on the hairpin turn noted on this map is the actual trail head for Franklin Ridge Loop. If you take this route and walk in a counter clockwise direction, the climb is gradual. As you hike always stay on the fire road and take intersection turns to the left until you have come back to the last turn at the bottom of your loop and then take a right back to your car, (as seen on this trail map) (street parking is limited, but usually not full)

Beware of ticks- I’ve hiked this trail a lot and enjoy it. However I don’t recommend hiking during this time (April) with shorts or bringing any pets because of ticks. The trails are overgrown right now and you can’t avoid getting ticks. I found over 10 ticks on me during the hike.

Good hike, nice views and close to home. Very steep in some areas but overall good.

Hiked this trail today. The views are gorgeous! I can't wait to go again and take some of the other trails. There are some steep areas, but the scenery is well worth it

Great views, peaceful, and quiet. Well placed benches for a rest with a view. Muddy/slippery on the Hulet Hornbeck portion of the trail. I am glad I scaled that portion at the beginning going up and did not have to navigate it as a mudslide coming down. Fantastic hike!

Lot of parking options, go down near the stables (not the school) for your best options. The start of the hike is pretty average - not much to look at other than Castle rock. Crossed a few very small streams but easy to navigate without getting wet. The back half of the hike is pretty amazing - green wide open space and some interesting rock formations. Few more Mountain bikers & cows on this section but still peaceful

FYI the Little Yosemite portion of the trail was marked with a sign that said no dogs.

Quite. Minimal biking.

This hike was moderately strenuous but doable for the average person. Parking is great but does fill up if you do a late morning early afternoon hike. The hike begins as a steady climb until you reach elevation 1300. Afterwards it is a rolling up and down hike. This was not the most beautiful but it did have a good panoramic view of Rossmore, Walnut Creek and Benicia. The hike was mostly in sun and very little shade so bring water and hat. I brought my dog and he had a great workout. Many people bring their dogs and many walk them off lease. Con against hike was lots of cow/horse droppings for the dogs to walk on and roll in. The area is a cattle area so that would be expected. I ran into lots of people so it was not a solitude type of hike. Almost a little to crowded for my taste but the people who hiked it were friendly.

Nice little hike along the creek. There is a gravel trail/road that is west of the creek and runs alongside the other trail. Make sure to get on the trail and not on the road at the beginning because you can't jump over the creek and will be in the sun the entire time if not. Nice views of Diablo and not crowded at all. Would be tough after any rain.

A few hills, some great views. What’s not to like?

So many different trails you can take, we ended up doing a 6.5 mile hike, rather than the 2.4... My GF had control of the map.

falcons soaring over head. The beauty of Mt Diablo and the rolling hills set as the back drop of several trail choices. Many fun and low difficulty rating trails.

TH easy to find and and a lot parking. No need for long pants but bring lots of water bc most of trail is exposed. I was alone on the trail for most of the morning - it then got pretty busy, ton of (friendly) people with dog. Really great work out but not much to see.

Most of the trail is on wide fire roads & out in the sun. The views are great but the hike to get to & from the ridge is STEEP. Plus, I found 4 ticks on my dogs once we got home.
