Kansas Trails Map

Great trail, went out for a short day hike today and it didn't disappoint. Beautiful bluffs over looking the lake, lot's of ups and downs. I look forward to completing the whole trail.

Really nice hike for Kansas. Some pretty views of the lake. The small "canyon" portion of the hike is very pretty as well.

Great first hike at Elk City. My boys and I ages 12, 9 and 7 took 33 minutes to complete.

One of my favorite places to hike. Lots of turkeys and deer...plenty of places to stop and take in the view. Just don’t forget to bring bug spray!

This is a very well kept area. Very cool to see the history tied in with the Oregon Trail.

Beautiful country but not a very long trail. Nice moderate walk.

I got to the trail head around 6:30 pm. Knowing sunset was at 8:30, I was bit nervous about finishing in time. The sign at the trailhead suggested that the hike would take about 3 hours. It took me a third of the time. I walked at a pretty brisk pace and didn’t stop to swim. I ended up finishing up in about an hour. The terrain is easy with a few rolling hills. The surface of the majority of the trail is mowed grass. Easy to walk on, and I even walked barefoot for some of it. The rock formations are really quite lovely. There were a couple boats parked there with people swimming and jumping from the rocks. I saw a couple lizard and a large variety of plants. As many have mentioned, it is Kansas Prairie and there is no shade, I did the hike late enough in the day that this was not an issue.

Not what you expect in Kansas.
Other worldly.

My favorite of the 3 loops! Wildflowers are amazing in the spring/early summer!

Love all 3 of the Konza trails! The second and third loops are very sunny. They are especially beautiful in spring/early summer when there is an abundance of wildflowers!

Hot day for a hike, but that swim half way through helped with the heat. It is a fairly hilly trail, but the 7 and 9 year old with me were able to enjoy it. Going on a Saturday evening meant that the water area was pretty crowded, but we still found a spot to climb and swim. I would definitely come back and hike it again.

All depends on time of year for this trail. We went mid July and the heat was pretty bad especially without any shade. Also the scenic areas near the water were almost entirely occupied by pontoons and boats making the water access nearly impossible and a loud environment with music and beer bottles littered around the beach areas. We stuck only to the trails and ended up with a dermacentor tick on the sock despite bug spray. So make sure you do a good tick check afterwards. Despite the boats and the heat, id imagine in the late fall it would be really pretty. Lots of cacti, local plants, and rolling hills. The rock formations are also really great. Would not recommend doing this in the summer overall.

Easy and very pleasant.

Beautiful trail. Not much shade. I would advise wearing a sun hat.

take this trail frequently to get to the best spot on the lake.

So it's literally a .3 mile walk up a road to the high point in Kansas. A very unique summit on private land with a free little library, signs, and picnic table. I raced the sunset up there and was amazed with it's beauty. Glad I did it.

Beautiful hike that our whole family loves! Our four kids get excited every time we mention it. Best advice is to get there when the trail opens. We weren’t on the trail five minutes before we spotted dear grazing near the bridges.

Enjoyed this trail with my 4 year old daughter. Not hard but beautiful and fun to hike.

Really a beautiful trail. Lots of sights that you won't find commonly in Kansas. Some rock climbs here and there added to the fun and brought the challenge level up a bit. Picked up a few ticks, but not that big of an issue. Only real complaint is the cow crap. It's all over the trail and in some parts is hard to avoid.

I've been hiking/backpacking on this Trail for years, it was the first Trail my kids backpacked on when they were little. Hiked it from end to end today with a couple of friends, and it didn't disappoint. Wildlife sightings, beautiful views, mostly shaded. Sturdy boots highly recommended, and plenty of water is a must. (Don't depend on water sources along the trail.) Trail is very clearly marked!

Just fun to say you did Kansas High point. Nice prairie views. A couple of nice metal artwork. Did it to break up the drive through Kansas.

My friends and I went on a Saturday afternoon in early Spring. Very easy trails! We were very happy that they had dog friendly trails that they highlighted for us to take the puppy on! It was a nice afternoon and we were able to see different plants that were starting to come up.

Nice trail. A lot of different flowers and great views. At some spots it can get tricky to navigate because of missing signs.

Very nice walking trail with a lot of history along the way. Stopped at the blacksmith's shop and the park volunteer made a chain link for my son as we watched. Great people to interact with at this location

Very cool area, different from surrounding areas

This is a national treasure. It is about 75% of the remaining tall grass prairie in the world. That is because it is one of the most endangered ecosystems in the world with only about 4% remaining world wide. See the flowers and grasses that once covered most of the Midwest from Texas to Canada. See the last of a few genetically pure Bison in this insurance heard. The trails and visitors center are lovingly curated and protected by The Parks Dept and the Nature Conservancy.

Great trail with loads of interesting points along the way.

Very cool trail. More technical/steep rocks sections than expected. Lots of creek crossings. Many turtles spotted on the trail. The trail is well marked with blue paint and metal sign mile markers on trees. When we decided not to go further we went up the hillside and there was plenty of flat shady area to set up camp. Try not to go right after any kind of rain if you’re not prepared for lots of mud. If your intent is to swim at any point you should start at the end point because the river water is stagnant dirty water.

Nice little walk around the fort. Several of the buildings are open with displays inside.

Beautiful trail with stunning views! Saw buffalo at a distance and a few turkey. The kids loved even at the challenging parts, which aren’t that bad. We will be returning soon!
