Great trail, went out for a short day hike today and it didn't disappoint. Beautiful bluffs over looking the lake, lot's of ups and downs. I look forward to completing the whole trail.

Best loop is Mill Creek to College.

This trail is GREAT for a long run at almost anytime of the day because it has good tree cover throughout the trail. Also the pavement is well kept which means there is no need to worry about footing on a run.

Good trail for a tempo or fast paced run. It is flat for the most part with some steep hills. Overall it’s a decent place for a quick run but anything longer than 4-6 miles I would recommend something else.

Fun trail for mountain biking. Enjoyed jumping the rocky part of the trail.

Nice little place to take the kids or go for a walk. I struggle with finding good places to hike in he Kansas City area so this will do in a pinch. My 2 year old had a great time. One part of the trail goes right up next to a busy street, separated by just a thin layer of trees, so it’s not the most “nature-y” or secluded/remote by any means but still nice. Did find quite a bit of trash which is very disappointing.

Gets crowded with bikers and runners.
Fun little walk

Great little trail just outside the city. We did ~5.8 miles in ~2.25 hours connecting different trails. Some flat, some paved, some rooty, some rocky, a few small hills for a little more challenge in some places. Ticks are definitely present now (mid-June). Lots of shade on most trails, but quite a bit of sun exposure too. Bring plenty of water in the summer heat. Saw lots of butterflies and dragonfly-like things, and one little bitty harmless snake off the path. The observation deck had some nice purple and orange wildflowers as well. Appreciated no traffic sounds. Will definitely come back.

This was a nice trail once you got to the wooden section off of the asphalt. Would recommend to friends.

A friend and I hiked part of the orange trail and all of the red trail on a recent Saturday. Our whole hike was about 7 miles. Even though we hiked during the middle of the day, the trail was partly shaded and comfortable in temperature. This was my first visit to Shawnee Mission Park, and it is beautiful! The visitor's center staff is very friendly and provides free detailed maps. Like some other reviews mention, there are some large rocks and tree roots on the trail. Since we were hiking, this was not a problem, but it may be a challenge for a beginning biker. I can't wait to go back and try the other trails!

Fun outing. Not much of a hike really but I enjoyed it immensely. Unbelievable views and very cool to see the castle

One of my favorite trails! Easy bike trail with some decent climbs mixed in. Not too heavily traveled.

Really a beautiful trail. Lots of sights that you won't find commonly in Kansas. Some rock climbs here and there added to the fun and brought the challenge level up a bit. Picked up a few ticks, but not that big of an issue. Only real complaint is the cow crap. It's all over the trail and in some parts is hard to avoid.

I've been hiking/backpacking on this Trail for years, it was the first Trail my kids backpacked on when they were little. Hiked it from end to end today with a couple of friends, and it didn't disappoint. Wildlife sightings, beautiful views, mostly shaded. Sturdy boots highly recommended, and plenty of water is a must. (Don't depend on water sources along the trail.) Trail is very clearly marked!

The trail was beautiful, but the State Park map was incomplete.

Good trail for conditioning.

My go-to trails in the area. rocky, rooty, and varied.

This trail is great for a family ride, single adventure, jog or walk on. The underpasses make it very pedestrian friendly with a great environment to take your stress away. You'll pass along many neighborhoods as well as store fronts that will aid in your thirst or hunger needs. I've riden nearly all of the trail it doesn't disappoint!

Pretty views and some wildlife.

Good for kids- some play area. The name is misleading and underwhelming. The cave is tiny. There are neat chimneys along the one mile trail. Wear pants and close toed shoes- lots of poison ivy and sumac. Lots of shade, so lots of mud along the trail.

Great trail and beautiful lake. Only complaint is trail is not marked at the fork. Ended up staying on the paved sidewalk and not going on the bridge to make the loop. I'm a traveler so trail markers are important. Figured it out when I back tracked and went toward the damn. If you are not familiar with this trail go toward the damn.

Great spot for us and the kids. Really cool place to visit and not too hard for young children or stroller.

This is a beautiful trail that crosses a number of areas of the city including railroads, ponds, bridges, ballparks, tree lined pathways, and parks. It’s a great day ride and gives you the opportunity to ride to the top of a high bluff overlooking the valley below. You’ll want to come back to ride or walk again.

Been running the trail at the lake for years, very nice! I pick up its trail from 95th & hwy 7 entrance, water stop within a mile and then u can get 2 more miles to get behind falcon ridge. Few unpaved trail options, easy and fun to go through too

Great trail, great park! I’ve hiked every inch of trail in the park and it’s great! I despise paved trails so I loved how the majority of the park has dirt trails. Haven’t been inside the nature center but probably will stop in next time I’m here for a hike. Only downside is dogs aren’t allowed anywhere in the park so I had to leave my hiking buddy home and he was not happy about it...I got the sad puppy dog eyes.

This is a bad biking trail. It’s dangerous too. There’s mud on the trail below the overpass, so it’s slippery. The trail is not maintained well either - downed tree limps, lots of bumps and cracks in asphalt. There are very few handicap ramps at street junctures. And there are too many sharp turns.

I love this trail!
