We’ve seen a bear. We turned around because we’ve been only 2 people and wanted to be save. As far as we got it was nice.

Great little out and back trail! Not completely flat, but not overly challenging, either. Terrain is very dry, but that's no surprise right now. Creek was flowing a little bit, nice to be able to walk along some water. Lots of available, free parking at the trailhead. Directions from All Trails are perfect. No restrooms or drinking water. Will definitely do this again when all I have time for is a quick, local hike.

Easy hike with plenty of people on a November Sunday late afternoon. Dry creekbed.

Favorite run while visiting Newport Beach. Dirt trail, rolling hills, and partial coverage make this a fun, scenic, and comfortable run for those not afraid to tackle some steep inclines and declines.

It’s a beautiful walk

I like this trail because of the challenging uphill segments and the cool ocean breeze. I like it even more now that I run into occasional hikers more frequently than I used to, so I don't feel like it is dangerous to go alone.

Beautiful and relatively easy hike! Safe to hike by yourself, but I still tried to walk with a couple on the trail since there was a lot of bear poop along the trail! Didn’t see any bears or mountain lions, but only spectacular Mountain View’s. Super fun hike and well worth it! I did the trip in about 3 hours round trip. I took my time at the top and even explore the inside of the mine. Highly recommend.

Great for a short hike not to hard, but little water coming down the falls.

Super cool! Mine was closed when we got there, but the entire view was amazing.

Such a cool piece of history.

Definitely a scenic hike. Had a lot of different pools to explore and involves a bit of climbing. Great for a quick trip to a waterfall.

Trail is actually 5.2 using Cougar. Nice tail in the city good to have.

The waterfall is minuscule this time of year. The trail offers a lot of shade and is moderately challenging. Some parts of the trail was super narrow. You need an adventure pass to park. If you get carsick easily, beware. The road is quite windy to get to the trailhead.

On oct 25, 2018, got out and hiked this trail, based on reading the feedback. I live off PCH, so this is really convenient, as the trail head on poppy ave is @1/2 mile from PCH. The trail is very nice and lots of greenery, is narrow in some parts, but just fine. It reminds me of the Lizard trail in Crystal Cove but not as tough, as there is not many steep hills. There is shade on the trail, and opportunity to take your cap off. The sound of water is soothing.

I hike alone, as I’m retired and get out on trail during the week when it’s not full of bikers. “Ihikealone”. Really enjoyable hike in the city.

Nice tree cover and close to home. Wouldn’t have known about it without the AllTrails app!

Great area and very pretty with some Fall colors. Popular place with lots of people. Sadly many don't know trail ettitquette, but we were impressed that there wasn't much (any) trash or grafitti for the amount of traffic. To get to the falls go past it, take the left fork to the creek and go left along the creek. Or take the right at the creek to go to Bear Canyon.

The mines are what makes this trail worth it

If you're an avid hiker, this is an easy trail. If you're new to it, moderate. Beautiful hike taking you through the forest of mixed trees of golden Aspen , pine and fur and alongside trickling creek and calming pools of water. Plenty of places to stop along the trail to hike in a little bit to have a picnic lunch by one of the many water pools.

The trail is not easy to follow but it's not hard to get back on when you realize you're going the wrong way. Just make sure the creek is to the right of you. As long as you can hear it, you're good. When you are almost to the falls, you'll be climbing up and over boulders. Make sure you have appropriate shoes that have good traction.

This trail is doable in runners or cross-trainers but the terrain is a bit tricky. Rocks, sticks, logs and one small part of trail where you're walking over a pooled water area covered with logs. I would recommend shoes that have ankle support. If you aren't careful, you can easily roll your ankles. I did this in trail running shoes and was fine.

A peaceful Sunday morning hike through a colorful, boulder-strewn canyon. Lots of woodpeckers to keep us entertained! A bit of fall color on the way to the waterfall, which is very zen-like: a small trickle flowing into a reflective pool. It’s shady much of the way, so being a light jacket is you’re hiking in the morning.

This was a rather easy hike, but was very beautiful! It took me about an hour and a half there and back but I spent a while at the mine. I didn’t go inside but sat there and enjoyed the view. I also took my 40lb bully and he was fine the whole way. Didn’t seem tired at any point through the hike. They do charge for parking so make sure to buy a pass. I made the mistake of not buying a pass and received a ticket, however the fee was only what the pass would’ve cost ($5).

Beautiful hike!! The trail is very hard to follow but it doesn’t really matter, it is very difficult to get lost! Just follow the creek and you won’t get lost. This was a very fun hike, not too difficult at all and lots of area to explore. We ended up taking the very low creek/river bed back to the trailhead and it was a great way to take back. Beautiful and fun!

It was very nice trail. I was impressed with the red rock itself. I had a very nice day.

Super fun bouldering toward the upper part of the falls. The trail is not always real obvious, but you’re always in cell service and GPS works great. Lots of friendly people on the trail, too. The lower part of the trail is pretty shady and there are a lot of picture perfect places to stop along the way.

Great hike! We ended up going all the way over to the bear canyon camp ground and back! Great views and good walking trails.

Tips: bring a map and not your bicycle! There is no service anywhere and you will have to carry your bike....

Best in winter/spring when the falls are flowing. Trail is a little difficult to follow.
Views are stunning at the top.

We parked on Poppy Ave for free and walked a block to the trailhead followed trail to the end and took bob cat trail back down which joins buck gully. Very nice and about 35% shade. 541 ft elevation took 2 hrs and burned 1000 cal. More of a moderate hike. 5.3mi round trip. Saw a 3ft snake:)

Great trail for mountain biking. The climb is nothing too bad and once you hit the decent, you'll thank yourself for deciding to put in the effort at the climb. Very good. Definitely recommend for everyone.

Great hike. Gear for beginners and kids.

Miles:5.2
Elevation:750ft
Duration: 2-3 hours
Level:easy -moderate
Dogs allowed on leash
Please bring your adventure pass to park.

When you arrive to the Switzer falls sign off the highway you will see a small road near the bathrooms. Go down that small road! There is plenty of parking down at the bottom. Start at the picnic tables. You have chances for a nice clean bathroom down at the bottom when your starting your hike. Cross the bridge and start down the paved road. The road ends about 1mile in but this trail is well marked and is very easy to follow.

This is a great hike to take your kids 6 and up. The views are beautiful. There are plenty of water crossings which makes it fun for the kids.
Your in shade about 80% of the trail but there is a small part with full exposer. We had people bring trekking Poles for the water crossings. There isn’t a lot of water there right now but enough to enjoy the views. When you get to the park where there is no shade “scream Hello!” As loud as you can and you can hear your echos bounce off the mountains! That was fun! When you get down to the bottom of your switch backs there’s shade again and your almost to the waterfall.

The waterfall doesn’t have much water in it but it’s still beautiful.

It was fun! Over all a perfect sized hike for us with dogs and kids!

Have fun! stay safe! Keep your dogs on a leash! Bring enough water and snacks, and leave no trace of trash!

Was hard to follow at times. Loved the ability to stop and enjoy the water on the way back. Got caught in a little rain. Be careful! Rocks became slick pretty quickly.
