June 2017 want to do list Map

Incredibly beautiful trail with a new amazing view around every corner! There are some old growth and new growth parts. We found ourselves stopping frequently to marvel at these incredible trees.

Dogs are NOT allowed - there was a sign at the trailhead. It also was a bit muddy when we went but nothing too bad.

Really great trail. Plan more time then you typically would on a 5 mile trail because you will be in awe of the Redwoods (lots of pics) also the trail was not busy at all which was a very pleasant surprise. Would highly recommend

LOVED THIS HIKE!! Do your research before the trip as always. I would not do this hike as a day trip. Plan to stay over night. Must take an alternate route and have a fire permit (both of which you can get at Gasquet Ranger Station). I highly recommend this hike for people looking to camp in a rural, low trafficked area. we were the only people there for 2 days. Totally worth the hike in. Amazing scenery and lots of wildlife. We will be returning again.

This was an amazing hike.
We passed boy scout tree on the way, so we found it on the way back. Around every corner opened up to new amazing views of the redwoods. Total milage for one way came into 2.9, because of going off trail to see boy scout tree.
Total miles round trip was about 6.
No huge inclines, overall pretty easy/medium hiking level.
It was so muddy because it rained a day prior. I don't recommend doing this hike in the rain. We went on a lucky sunny day.

A gorgeous hike with wildflowers, and beautiful waterfalls. Not too long, not too short. Almost lost my backpack and got myself stuck while attempting to climb a fallen Redwood...be careful when hiking alone, just saying.

Beautiful and easy hike through the Redwoods, birds singing, not much traffic until it connects to Big Tree.

If you are in Northern California, this is a MUST. A very easy but extremely beautiful and magical experience. You will feel like you're in Jurassic Park. If going in the Spring, may want to consider wear waterproof boots! Your feet will surely get a tad or two wet.

This is a very easy Loop Hike around Burney Falls. The Falls are Majestic! So worth the 9 hour road trip and camping adventure to Burney CA! The 4 stars are for the falls! the trail is easy but a beautiful nature walk! The Falls themselves are a 10!

This is where part of Star Wars was filled. Felt like an alien planet. Beautiful and mysterious.
Saw many bull elk while hiking. Not to be messed with.
Loved the place.

Saw tons of elk. Nice easy hike.

Absolutely amazing! Stunning scenery and intimate experience of the forest. Best time is February. Nice weather, no crowds.

My friend visiting the area said this beach was straight out of a Lovecraftian novel. Definitely spooky, but beautiful. Great place to chill and make art in the sand. Water looks dark.

Every time you round the corner on this trail there is a new breathtaking view. It truly is beautiful out here. I went early in the morning and was all alone on the trail - there was silence in the woods and it just added to the ambiance. The creek and waterfall were nice viewpoints, and there were plenty of downed trees along the way that could provide a nice resting spot if you need one or just want to sit and enjoy the view.

Be warned that the trail itself gets really muddy if it has rained within the last week, but you can still navigate it if you proceed with caution. The road leading up to the trail isn’t the most fun for smaller cars - lots of bumps and it’s very narrow - but it’s also manageable with caution.

I loved this trail and will definitely come back again. I encourage everyone reading this to check it out.

Although I'm a much bigger fan of moderate / hard rated trails, this trail will always be a true favorite. It is most definitely an easy trail so it's perfect for anyone! Thankfully even my baby sister agrees to "hike" this trail with me, which makes for wonderful family exploring time.

And there's truly nothing more majestic! You drive through groves of trees, along the ocean, park, and walk up to the canyon's grand entrance - see the pictures I've uploaded if you don't believe me!

You hike through the entirety of the canyon of ferns, up and out through more groves of trees, and back down to the entrance of the canyon before retreating to your vehicle. Although it's short, you can spend as much time as you want in the canyon, which is always my preference.

If you want a hike that's simple and allows time for reflection, then this hike is perfect for you and your loved ones.

Gorgeous scenery and wildlife.

Quite an easy walk, we completed it in 50 mins. We also saw some Elk right next to the car park.

Great trail. This is a rather long trail. The terrain is easy to moderate.

This is a fun little loop. If you don’t want to get super wet, you can ninja your way thru most of it without having to get too deep...but, there are a few points where you really just have to go for it. Waterproof boots, above the ankles for those who aren’t into getting wet. My wife and I loved this one. Stop often and take in your surroundings. It’s likely you’ve never seen anything like it before.

Stopped to hike this trail on a trip up the California coast. This temperate rainforest setting was amazing...felt like I was on a different planet!! So green and lush

Beautiful walk down to Agate Beach. Agates are all over. Just watch the tide

Really mesmerizing experience. The trail is like small pathway with fern trees and big redwood tress along the way. The red pathway with the fallen leaves and green trees made our day! very blissful hike.
Definitely recommend people to go here. We started all dull but came out of the trail feeling refreshed.
Beautiful hike and incredible experience of being in forest full of oxygen.

There was lot of water when we had been there. Since it rained a lot a day before we went there. There were about 3 water streams which our car had to pass to get to the fern canyon trailhead. Since our car was not SUV, we decided to park right before the first stream and walk one more mile before reaching the actual trailhead. Fern canyon was pretty amazing, we walked to the end of the trail in the water running like river. It was so much fun!! If anyone is visiting it in recent 2 days, don't try to save your shoes, no matter what you are going to get wet! :)

Such a long drive for a hike. Nice pit toilet at trail head. Easy miles from TH to switchbacks - about three(?) miles. Switchbacks will take your breath. Rock scramble is slow but interesting. There is a pond at what may appear to be the summit. The larger “lake” is a bit more scrambling and spectacular! Otherworldly panorama.
Give yourself a time buffer. Get started early.
Last time we ran this was probably mid 2015.
Heading to Bear Mtn summit today - will learn about current access issues...

Beautiful part of the forest! It was a lovely hike, not a lot of people and very quiet. There is nothing more calming than standing among giants such as these! My husband is an eagle scout and of course we had to do this trail.

Beautiful canyon to see Maiden Hair Ferns that require hiking up a shallow river. This is a very short trail so continue on to one of the connecting trails for a longer hike is a must!

Very pretty trail, but did not go all the way through. Parts of it were closed. The parts that we did get to see were very pretty with lots of adorable banana slugs and the sound of seals.

Check for park closures and road closures before you arrive. Tried to drive up after the rain today for a day hike in Fern Canyon and the 4.0 mi steep and windy dirt road looked very slippery and muddy and washed out. Campground and trail to Gold bluff beach said closed. We decided to turn back rather than get stuck.

Steep hike down trail in disrepair and eroding. Nice small stretch of beach.
