on Lower Box Canyon Falls

Very short but cool. Free in the winter and you can watch people ice climbing before/after visiting the falls.

Just read my post. It looks like I tried to drive up the mountain, we tried hiking up the mountain but it got too steep. Just want to clarify. I'm all for responsible trail riding.

Very good drive. Did this during the summer. Tried going up the mountainside, but it got very steep. Still a good drive. Very nice views.

Nice peaceful walk.

so rediculous that you must pay to hike. way better nature for free elsewhere.

Beautiful with options to go farther by taking the connected ouray perimeter trail.

Great hike. The views are incredible and we saw the lake in clouds, sunshine, and snow—all within about 10 minutes. It’s well worth the effort. We saw it listed as “moderate” but viewed it as tougher than that.

Amazing and challenging hike. Use the directions from earlier posts (thanks) to make sure you don’t miss the trail to Blue Lake. Bridal trail falls was just a trickle at this time of year but there are other amazing waterfalls along the trail. Make sure you wear hiking boots or trail runners. Hikers who wore running shoes had trouble navigating the loose gravel both up and down the trail. The views were well worth the hike!!

One of my favorite 14er hikes. Mid-sept is a great time of year to hike with the great temps and changing aspens. I stayed on the main trail and did the out-and-back from Sunshine; didn’t follow any shortcuts (seriously bad erosion happening and unnecessary steepness). My round trip clocked in at 13miles, 7.5 hours.

Beautiful Hike - every turn you take you either have an awesome viewpoint or eyes on a waterfall. Hiked this in last August while a storm was rolling in. It was overcast, but I imagine on a clear day you will be hot and in the sun for most of the hike.
Any 4x4 car will make it to the top of Bridal Veil Falls (no need for high clearance). The first fork in the trail: Right will take you to Silver Lake. Second fork in the trial: Left will take you to Blue Lake, Right will take you to Lewis Lake

This was an amazing drive! The lake is so crystal clear almost unbelievable

The hike is great but the lake at the top is a little disappointing. The views were better along the trail than at the top. The crew I was with said they wished the did blue Lake instead.

Considered this hike hard. Continous incline until reaching the lake. Unfortunately the day was overcast and the lake wasn't as blue. Great views and waterfalls. Took us 4 hours to complete

This is an absolutely stunning hike. We drove our jeep to the top of bridal veil Falls near the powerhouse and parked in the sixth switch back up. There is no parking at the very top of the 4 x 4 trail near the powerhouse. We are flatlanders from Ohio and it was our first day at altitude so we were sucking wind most of the way up. Took us about 2 hours and 10 minutes to reach the lake. Started hailing as soon as we got up there. It was a beautiful hike all the way through with a stream, waterfalls, and amazing mountain scenery the whole way. For sure one of my favorite hikes of all time. Bring a lot of water, I drank about 4 L, and make sure to dress in layers and be prepared for weather at the top.

We did the hike starting from the very bottom of the falls since we just had a small sedan. The hike was about 11 miles from the bottom round-trip (per my Fitbit) and was about 150 flights up. The trail was gorgeous! Honestly, it was one of the prettiest hikes I’ve ever been on (and I’ve also hiked Mt Sneffels). Since we went at the end of August, the colors were breathtaking and we started around 7:00 am so the mountains were shrouded with clouds & mist. It was awesome. Definitely a challenging hike since the first 5+ miles are all incline. The Lake itself isn’t that spectacular but it was cool to see the old mining ruins next to it.

Loved taking my family on a Jeep ride up this trail! Views were well worth the road.

As others have mentioned, it is a little tougher the last part of the hike. Steep climb. Good news is I did make it in sneakers but would have been better with hiking boots and walking stick. Big fish in lake but they were not hungry and with no insects around, we gave up on fishing.

Gorgeous views of the San Juans! You can see Wetterhorn and Uncompahgre from both summits. Traverse from Redcloud to Sunshine was relatively easy with a well defined trail. Had to summit Redcloud again to return and there were a few false summits on the way back but the traverse was one of the easier ones I’ve done. Only took about half an hour each way to traverse. The entire trail was pretty gradual which made it one of the easier fourteeners I’ve done. Nice thing about this one is you can get two done in a day easily. Tracker logged 11.5 miles with both peaks.

It’s $5 to get in. Pretty but nothing too exciting.

Did this lovely hike with my 21 month old son in a backpack and my 10lb shih tzu. We had a blast, and even took a dip in the ice cold lake!

Easy driving trail. Several places to pass. Maybe one moderate area near top but nothing crazy. I like doing this trail in the evening, great sunsets make for amazing pictures.

Drove most of Trail in high range. Climbed during rain, so used low range to negotiate some rocky areas. There are two lakes, and the trail ends at the second lake. Map shows it going past, but map is wrong. Abandon mine about 2/3 up, entrance blocked with boulders.

Only ran a partial way up, late afternoon and not enough time to do it all. Ran 2 wheel drive, high clearance is needed breathtaking views and saw about a dozen other vehicles.

great trail with a couple of waterfalls and an amazing lake at almost 12000 feet.

Great jeep trail with awesome views. The trail is fairly easy with a high clearance vehicle. 4x4 recommended - though I saw a Subaru Outback and a Toyota Rav 4 on the trail. Many rough spots, semi-wide switch backs. Of course the views are what make this trail incredible and Clear Lake is a beautiful spot to relax and meditate, hike around, and take some wild flower photos. Very serene!

Loved this hike. We had walked all the way from the bottom of the bridal veil falls which made for a long day but I would still do it again. From the top of the falls you are hiking right along the river that feeds the falls. This river is gorgeous the whole way with plenty of little waterfalls. I went mid July and the wildflowers were breathtaking. Every slope was covered with them and there were plenty of different varieties to look at. Walking up to the lake we didn’t even see it at first because the reflection was so vivid. The lake was pristine and was surrounded by jagged peaks. Also near the top was left over parts from the old mines making for some beautiful pictures.

Great hike with nice views of Telluride and of course a beautiful lake. This is a tough short hike. Took me about 70 minutes to get up and an hour to get down. To get to the trail head you need to have a 4x4 or AWD high clearance vehicle. My Subaru Crosstrek made it fine. If you don’t want to drive up, you can walk up the road about 2 additional miles each way.
