Very much agree with Jon’s review below. A little uncomfortable at times. Drove a stock SR5 4x4 with Nitto Grapplers. Kept up with both buddy’s lifted FJ’s.

Awesome trail did it yesterday with my gf and our 2018 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk (stock) unfortunately no snow up there at all but still very scenic trail love it!!!

highly recommended 4x4 low range and high clearance vehicles only maybe some lockers would be good if snow!!

Great trail for beginners. Plenty of areas for photos. Amazing range of scenery from desert hills to dense forest. View from the top is incredible! Plenty of areas to stop and take it all in.

Rather mundane and best avoided if you don't like crowds of weekend riders.

Pretty easy and quiet trail (during the week at least). It's a nice spot to get lost in, not that that is easy to do.

Are there trails that I’d be able to take my stock 2017 tundra on? I’m not expecting to do rock crawling, I just want to get on some dirt roads and climb up the mountain to see some beautiful sites!

First time taking my suv off the road! Great trail that was well maintained with a variety of views. Just getting to the trail itself was beautiful. Vast rocky hills at jawbone canyon with plenty of dirt bike and atv trails. The climb isn’t too steep in any areas. Plenty of places to stop along the way. The views are spectacular. Early January was perfect. Brisk air with a few piles of snow at the very top but no icy patches. Takes a while to complete this drive and the end point is a dead zone, so be sure to get directions home ahead of time!

Had some snow and ice to add some complexity, but was pretty easy and enjoyable trail.

The trail is officially open with trail repairs made at the stream crossings. Such hard work went into this, please stay on the trail and keep the trail open.

We made it through the trail in about 3 or so hours. This trail is not for those with little to no experience and no armor or locking differential. There are a lot of tight spots and to make matters worse, a large rock right in the middle. Busted side mirror on the large tree with the off camber lean.

It was great to run this trail, it had been about 15 years since the last time I ran it.

Great views and absolutely exciting for a first timer. Definitely a low gear experience coming down. 5-6 water crossings over a light running creek.

The trail is back open to off road vehicles!

We completed it on 9/9/2017
This is not a trail for the casual wheel, I would not attempt it with out at least one locker and rock sliders.

But if you have the right rig, I would highly recommend this tail. We completed it in about 5 hours but where going pretty slow with lots of stops along the way.

It's a down out and up back trail.

The start was a little tricky because it passes through a posted private property area. Stay on the "road" and you're good.

Fun trail, amazing views from the top area. If traveling down from White Mountain you will want to lock in low gear and use breaks lightly, which is hard to do with the steep grade, loose rock, and shelf road. I recommend taking a break at one of the large turns to give them a rest.

Spotted 32 Big Horn Sheep in the mouth of the Canyon. If you don't see them, shut your car off and listen, you can hear them causing rocks to fall as they walk around.

There are six or more water crossings, all which are pretty low, about 2 inches deep if that. The last one (or first if you are traveling up) is the deepest, roughly 5-6inches deep.

We rode Mt Bikes down from Lake Alpine. There were plenty of spots where we had to get off and walk but what a beautiful trail. There were a lot of Jeeps and rock crawlers and it was fun to watch them climb the the big obstacle on the Utica side. There's a spot about 1/3 of the way from Lake Alpine where it opens up to a sea of granite and a stream running through there were people camping there. It's an amazing spot

Beautiful views. We could see the smoke in the valley.

Does any know if this is opened? Can really find any information on it.

A dull hike with spectacular vistas on both side of the ridge...the trail is above tree line and in the sun.

fun trail, nothing too exciting. You do end up on Bear Valleys ski resort if you follow the ridge. campsites along the trail are nothing special.

This trail crosses a creek at least six times, went in July with 105+ degree heat so stopping a couple of times to soak your feet and wet a towel makes this an added plus.
The trail starts out with a very subtle incline until about the 6 mile mark when it begins to climb fairly steep with many switchbacks. rock formations and views are fantastic!

Today was the second time I did this trail, and my first time leading the way. We took the side trip to see the mine. I paused the record function on the app so there's a gap in my track. I remembered to restart it as we started the drive on Cerro Gordo .
The environment changes as you move from desert to mountain to rolling hills, wooded valley, ending with a shelf section that is sure to make you a little uncomfortable.Good times , overall it's a great experience

6-16-17 I went to go on this trail and it was closed. I spoke with the Forest Service Rangers and they said it may or may not open this year. A lot of the roads in the area were destroyed or damaged do to the heavy winter. I am remaining hopeful that it will open back up and I can go on it. I will re-rate it after that. The 1 star is for the winter damage not the trail.

Drove up this road for 7.5 miles. Super windy day so we only walked around a bit. Views were nice. Feels deserted old miners terrain.

This was a really fun trail on our Dualsport motorcycles. I'm not terribly experienced but it was pretty easy, even the water crossings. You can go all the way to The Bristlecone Pine Forest.

The road out of Bishop area is called Silver Canyon you will cross a creek minimum of 4 times depending on time of year with a water depth up to 2 feet, it is steep with lots of switch backs all the way to the top on to Bristleconepine road. At certain points the inclimb is more then 20% High clearance 4×4 only, so no Subaru
Do not attempt this road when you encounter snow, the chance of sliding off the mountain is very high.

Always a blast out here with the boyfriend and our kiddos. We tend to always go back and take off on a new dirt road each time.

Great trail! Mostly moderate wheeling, with some hard sections along the way. Easy to get to from the Bay Area for a quick overnight trip.

Fantastic location for hitting the trail, great camping.

People on the trail were fantastic except for this one Dick with a full size Chevy that had no business being on the trail
