Easy. Lots of sand. Nice view at the top n

on Contact Mine Trail

It needs more sign posts directing the way. Other than that it’s a wonderful hike. The scenery is fantastic!! The mine and the old equipment is a great reminder of days gone by.

Pretty but VERY crowded

Fun little loop, saw some tarantulas!

Had a blast on this trail even though was 1 mile it was a little difficult as far as directions. you just have to stay on the pass and trust your judgment and you should be fine

Don’t know what we did wrong, but on this seemingly simple loop we got quite twisted, frustrated, and confused. Gorgeous views and nice signage (for the first half of the trail). Had a blast on the rocks.

Beautiful easy trail. We went in late September, but even then, some blooms. The dam was almost dry, but it was nice to see cat tails in the desert just below the dam.

Very nice trail with a treat at the end , 3 mine shafts blocked off very safe . Trail contains miners left over cans (real cool) & resting are made by rocks . At the end of the trail you’ll see old mining machinery.

Beautiful and easy hike. Divers vegetations.

The actual "pine city" part of this trail is not indicated on the trail itself so you will most likely overshoot it. The trail is, as mentioned above, longer than posted, but not that hard. (Closer to 2 miles each way). Overall nice but I wish we could have found the old mineshafts. Great trail for plant life. A lot of low lying colorful plants. (August)

Fun to see water in such a dry place. If only there were fish...

Beautiful easy hike in a valley full of rocks to be climbed!

interesting walk. We stayed at the Ryan campground so it was a very short way walk to the ranch. the remains were great for pictures.

A rock scrambler's dream! So many rocks to climb along the entire loop...a ton of fun! The loop itself is not that amazing...pretty, but you follow a short path. Get off the trail and enjoy this wonderland.

The Vista Trail was very easy & very short, 1.25m of pretty flat hike with little immediate scenery, and then BAM! you get to the vista and wow, you're looking across miles and miles of gorgeousness. Did this hike based on the distance & the glowing words of the reviewer below me, and took the wash loop back. This was both a blessing & a curse (no fault of the reviewer). Dropping into the ruggedness of the S. end of the wash was incredible, after having so little to see on most of the vista trail. But after getting out of the rugged portion into the wash it was less enchanting. It was a v. hot day, and in the wash there was little breeze. The last 1/3 of the wash is all loose sand and slightly inclined, so it was a pretty wretched hot dry when-is-this-going-to-end slog. Other than the sand part, which was more tiring than expected, there is nothing difficult about this hike, it's a terrific off-the-beaten-path gem and I absolutely plan to go back. I think starting from Queen Canyon Mine might be the key, if heat is a factor.

Nice little hike with a bit of history. Mill and abandoned vehicles are pretty cool to see.
Didn't see anyone on this trail (we went there on July 21st at noon, that's probably why!)

A nice hike that doesn't take very long and offers some nice views of both the Joshua Trees and a lake/dam. The dam mostly dries up in summer but the area still remains greener than anywhere else in the park that I've seen and is certainly worth the hour or so that this hike takes.

This is truly a gorgeous area. We came here for sunset over Memorial Day weekend, not planning to walk this trail, but we hiked it in the dark and it was still awesome. This is a great spot to see the moon rise. I’ll have to come back in the daytime. :)

Really enjoyed this trail. Hiked it Memorial Day weekend, which was warm but not crazy hot. It took us about 90 mins to get to the Willow Hole, taking plenty of pictures along the way. So cool to see all the different types of plants in the desert. Enjoyed having the shady area to rest in before heading back. We saw some sort of reptile rustling around in the sand and leaves near the willows. Pretty cool. Also saw a jackrabbit on the way back. The way back was a little quicker since it was warmer and we wanted to get back to the car. Bring plenty of water and protect yourself from the sun.

This was a very fun, scenic trail. Many great views, rock climbing, and very active during the weekend.

I really enjoyed this trail. The dam was kind of shallow, but the view was nice, there was lots of scenic background and great spot for taking photos.

Best hike we did in Joshua Tree. AllTrails says it’s an in and out but when you arrive there is a loop trail marked, take the Loop!!! The backside of the loop drops you into a valley that is far better then the famed Hidden Valley Trail. Start early and you will see tons of wild hares and rabbits. Parts are in the wash that can be a little confusing so just keep an eye out for the trail signs...if your unsure just push on slightly looking for the signs, if in doubt double back and try another wash, just stick with it. Super secluded, we saw no one on our 2.5 hour walk.

Cute small walk

That was well worth the small detour! After a full day of walking around and being fairly dirsty, the sight of the pond/lake is very special. Small walk worth doing

Maybe it's because that was one of the last hike of the day, but I found it a little dull.

Actually I didn't find this rock like a cap. Not as interesting as many other rooks in this park. However, it's luck that we saw some people climbing the rock beside the trail. They are great!

The rocks on this trail are interesting. It took us less than one hour.

It's amazing that there is a lake in the heart of the desert.

quick and easy, beautiful vegetation to look at.
