Beautiful and great as an intro to Joshua Tree hike.

Pretty crowded and feels a little artificial for my liking with the man made wall. The loop was under maintenance and so was a short in and back hike. We did however scramble up the hills behind the dam which was a lot of fun and made for some great afternoon views.

This was one fun trail with family. Multiple peaks overlooking Salton sea and 360 degrees breath taking views. Passing the mine and walking counterclockwise in the loop through the wash back to the parking lot.
I would say an hour and a half hike (walking time).

A loop in and around the exposed granite of Joshua Tree. Minimal scrambling, somewhat crowded.

A lake Oasis in the middle of the desert. Crazy, no? Definitely do this.

Ranger at visitor center commented that this hike is at lower elevation than most other hikes inside the park. It therefore is hotter.

Very scenic hike on Joshua tree. Ample parking. Bathroom at trailhead. Wide well maintained trail. Very enjoyable hike.

Sunsets!

Easy. Not as great as Hidden Valley Trail. There weren't as many cool boulder structures to scramble on. And for awhile at the beginning you're kind of fenced into this narrow trail- and we were behind people slower than us. But, it was cool to see the dam at the end and the wildlife there. And everyone still enjoyed it. (Went with kids ages 12-6).

Easy. Fun for the kids ages 6-12. They loved scrambling up the boulders and the interesting scenery.

we only had one afternoon to check out this park as we were staying with family while on vacation in palms springs. Great views and some interesting old mining memorabilia and debris. Very cool hike. wish we had the time to hike to the oasis. Not shaded so wear sun screen, and bring covering: hat, lightweight long sleeve, etc.

Probably the best short trail I've ever encountered. Especially off-season when it offers both solitude and amazing views!

Really crowded and parking was tough. A nice hike and fun to see water.

Beautiful and great for the kids.

It was nice. I can recomend it to palm lovers.

Easy trail with a lot of loose sand. The trail was being worked in when we visited so it turned out to be a .8 mike in and out walk because half the loop was closed. The water in the lake was low, but still pretty once we got to the dam.

Nice, easy hike to a beautiful desert pond formed by a dam built many years ago.

Great easy hike/walk to end the day in Joshua Tree National Park. The sun was going down when we got here and the rocks and pond looked really beautiful. Definitely doable for families, and is one of the more popular trails that we encountered so there will be plenty of people there but it didn’t feel overcrowded.

Great short hike and so fun! Rocks are amazing!

Perfect hike with little kids! My 3 year old desert baby loved seeing the water and birds!

Really fun little loop, my daughters loved the lizards and rocks to climb!

This trail is pretty short, but don’t let that fool you! You can spend a lot of time exploring this area. I thought it was very peaceful, I did this hike around 7am in February. So not a lot of people were out, but by the time I finished the parking lot was full. I took my time exploring the rock features along the way. Plus, it’s probably the only place you’re going to see a body of water in the park. Lol.

A fun little loop amongst the rocks and various vegetation of Joshua Tree. The trail is pretty short and easy, and has a lot of opportunities for exploration amongst the rocks. The history of the valley is pretty cool so take the time to read the informational signs.

Definitely more “touristy” due to the short length and ease of the hike, but still fun to see.

A fun little hike in Joshua Tree. Pretty short and easy. Like a lot of places in Joshua Tree, the rock formations are pretty fun to explore and climb. The dam itself and the history are pretty interesting.

Definitely more “touristy” due to the short length and ease of the hike, but still fun to see.

I did this as part of the Lost Palms Oasis hike and would definitely recommend doing the two of these together, as they offer some great views of the southern side of the park and the environment beyond. The path up to the very top of the peak is just a bunch of boulders that need to be scrambled over, but it isn’t very challenging and is very much worth it. The view from the top is absolutely amazing.

Fun scramble beyond the lake

Great hike! Definitely had me sweating at times but wasn't hard! Agree with another poster--the trail was better than the oasis but I enjoyed it all around!

A very nice hiking loop. We enjoyed it very much.

Terrific short (3.5 miles ft), moderate hike. Best early AM as trail traffic increases after 10/10:30AM. Trail is actually more interesting and rewarding than the oasis.
