Cool area. Parking is weird. I would park at the campground.

Great view of Joshua Tree when you reach the top. Watch out for high winds!

Excellent rock formations at the base, a moderate hike with few trees and sweeping valley views. Great way to get some altitude in a short amount of time. Hiked on New Years Eve in blistering wind. The hiking experience on the way up overtops the payoff at the top, so enjoy the journey!

Crowded, nothing too special. View was mediocre not really a Joshua tree vibe.

Very nice hike. Good views from the top, and challenging enough to make you work a little for it. We trail ran down which was super fun on all of rocks and “stairs”. Would definitely do again, but probably run the entire trail.

Great trail, beautiful views. Be sure if you are going for your first time, it is easier to follow from the Joshua Tree entrance side of the trail, as it is more clearly marked. Starting from the “10” side, it starts off marked well, then the riverbed becomes confusing and can be treacherous to your paint job if you start follow tire tracks instead of a trail... which happens... and you spend an extra hour back tracking to find the trail. Be especially cautious and bring plenty of water in case you’re out there longer than you expected. The riverbed part washes out when it rains, and we’ve been seeing the trail getting hard to spot after these last few storms over Dec and beginning of January. Enjoy the ride!!!

Perfect short hike that provides great views of the surrounding valley and mountains. Top of the mountain has a great stop and overlook for pictures. Challenging due to hiking uphill the whole way, but very worth it. If it’s summer, definitely pack water and sunscreen.

Went up early January 2018. Sunrise at around 6:50am, it took us about 35 minutes to get to the top, the hike is fairly easy as it’s not particularly rocky and the steps are wide and flat. Does get very windy and cold at the top (~20F) around that time. Great 360* view although not a lot of Joshua trees

Fun short hike with a lot of cactuses to see

Real easy and short trail away from the crowds. Shouldn’t need 4x4 but check conditions, pick good lines, and be aware of where you stop/go. Some sandy sections but not deep at all. Whole lot of washboards in the beginning. Drove a 1500 Silverado through with no scratches, some shrubs got real close tho. M
Trail might get over grown certain parts of the year so cautious. I would definitely come back and grill up some lunch here just to be away from the masses. There are backcountry camping areas and hiking trails on this trail as well.

Did as beginning and end of Lost Oasis hike. It was lovely with the mine, many flowers and many hummingbirds near the yellow flowered bushes. End is a little confusing because it says trail is closed due to flood damage.

I love this hike. When you get to the top, the silence is amazing. You can hear a single car approach from miles away. The views of the dancing Joshua Trees are captivating. I can't wait to go back! (Sept. 2000)

We did this trail from Dillon road all the way into Joshua Tree. A couple moderate spots that help break up the trail. It is long as sometimes seems like it never ends.

Quite possibly my favorite hike at Joshua Tree! Challenging enough to break a sweat and really feel accomplished when you reach the stunning 360 views at the top! Be sure to bring layers and sturdy shoes, in the winter it can get cold and even have ice/snow on some parts.

Loved doing something a little different to get above the rock formations and see wilderness as far as your eyes can see. Went early and had no trouble with crowds. Lots of kids with families on the trail, which was impressive!

Busy, very chilly on Dec 29, and strenuous, but you don’t have to work very long to get to the simply stunning 360° views. If you only have a daytrip, consider making it your first hike and the other scenic loops will seem easy.

Just did it in a stock Wrangler. Great trail. Does have a couple of challenging parts but nothing to be deterred from going. We did it from JT Park towards Dillon Road so we went downhill.

Nicely groomed at the start but gets a bit more challenging as the climb progresses. The views along the way make it easier to keep going and the outstanding 360° vistas at the top justify the whole effort.

My kids (5 and 7) and I were traveling through from Phoenix to LA and this was a great, short hike to stretch our legs.

If you love climbing stairs you will love this trail! If you don't, do it anyway! The elevation gain is made even more strenuous by the fact that you're climbing rock stairs almost the entire way but the views are spectacular as you go and once you make it to the top you are rewarded with an awe-inspiring 360-degree view of the entire JTNP and beyond.

Quick, easy stroll on a manicured path. A huge patch of chollas sitting in an alluvial plain is a unique sight and it's right off the main road so it would be silly not to stop and take a look. We were hoping for some spectacular photos during the golden hour at sunset and we got there in time but at this time of year the sun sets behind the tall peaks before the sky starts changing colors. For photography purposes it would have been better to visit at the sunrise. We still got some great photos and we're glad we went.

Easily done on a stock rubicon, lots of shooting on south end. Overall pretty nice run,

Very easy and plenty of areas to explore off trail. We climbed some boulders and explored past the arch. There is a campground right next to it.

The views at the top are amazing!!! We went to watch the sunset and it was absolutely beautiful! We used trekking poles on the way up and they definitely helped on the way down. If you do go at sunset just pack accordingly with warmer gear. The temps drop quickly once the sun goes down and wind can be very chilly. A headlamp or flashlight would also be helpful on the way down. It took us about an hour or so to get up and about half that to get down however, we did run about a third of the way down.

great beginners trail, but do not go alone. A few spots can be difficult depending on what trail you take and vehicle you drive. 4wd no problem. 2wd can be challenging for some.
