Fun challenging, narrow areas between rocks, ladders, climbing ropes. It’s definitely pretty nar nar. If you are afraid of heights, tight spaces, this may not be as fun. Amazing time tho.
Great, well marked trail! Gorgeous scenery and fairly easy overall, if long.
It was a nice trail but NO Joshua trees on the south side of the park! If you’re looking to see Joshua trees the north side of the park is where you’ll see them.
Not a whole lot of colors. The drive had more than the trail
Loose rocks and sandy. Horses on trail. Being a mask for social distancing since it’s narrow at some parts
On the trail 2/27 Sat 9am arrival not very busy! Clean trails, no restroom or bins in sight at trailhead but is set on a campground. Quite windy. Much more people on the way out so recommend an early start to avoid crowds.
Nice hike! I didn’t realize so much of the trail was sand, so just putting it out there if that means anything to you
Nice trail. Good for easing into a weekend of hiking in COVID shape.
This was an absolutely beautiful hike. I added on the Warren Peak out and back and it was absolutely worth it for the amazing view I got as my reward. There were more people on this hike than the other hikes I’ve been on at the park and if it matters to you (as it does to me), about half of the people I encountered were not wearing masks. I did the loop clockwise and really enjoyed the incline that way. There is lots of beautiful geology on this hike and I saw lots of animal life, including a coyote, along the journey. My hiking poles came in handy on some of the inclines, especially on Warren Peak. I’d definitely do this one again if I’m back in the area.
Very cool hike! I went left from the parking area which was less crowded and seemed to be an easier climb up. Scrambled up some rocks to a ridge line, then back down on little canyon trail and through the ladders. Great variety and very pretty. Glad I wore ankle high hiking boots, it’s very sandy for most of it. The 5 mile road in is tricky, but I was fine just going slow in a Honda sedan. If you have access to a truck or suv it would make it easier driving in.
Awesome night hike with a full moon. Crazy good visibility, with huge boulders and massive palm trees in the beginning. You walk a bunch of washes along the way
This was a beautiful trail. I got there about 1:00 pm and didn’t see a single soul the entire hike. It was magical. As others mentioned, finding the trail when you park your car is difficult. Just go to the left of the mountain and you’ll find the trail head then keep going left from there. I saw a roadrunner and a few birds, but not much else in terms of wildlife. There were some scenic views and I was definitely glad I brought my hiking poles for some of the uphill. Bring layers, lots of water and watch where you are stepping.
A great day hike, make sure you bring enough water. Stay safe and enjoy :)
Combining this and Warren Peak made for the highlight hike of my stay in JT. Gorgeous views and good conditions
Pretty trail. Not hard at all. some steep climbing at the end for about 400m but otherwise pretty flat or low incline clockwise. eventhough part of Joshua tree, it doesn't have those beautiful rock formations of the actual national park.
Great Hike, not too crowded. Cool windy day.
Great trail! Old gold mine...really cool.
