About 90% of the trail was good. Once you hit the base of the mountain, the actual trail completely disappears. If you’re an inexperienced hiker, I recommend a more traveled path. Also, be careful & watch out for snakes. I saw a handful of rattlesnakes (didn’t get close enough to see which kind) on the out portion of the loop around the mountain.

Easy to follow trail with decent but short inclines and declines. Very little shade so go early in the summer. One of the less popular trails In JTNP, especially the back Loop portion.

We did the trail as the sun was rising at dawn. I would do it as early as possible to avoid the heat, as it was getting pretty hot by 9:30. The scenery and wildlife was a great introduction to Joshua Tree. Terrain was a little varied, clockwise is definitely the best direction as you finish with a straight flat stretch back to the trailhead. The bees were really nasty, apparently they are super thirsty and aggravated right now, but not the end of the world as long as you keep moving.

This was a great trail. Make sure to have close-toed shoes because it's all in sand/gravel. As you're probably already aware, it is getting HOT. There was a little bit of shade, and a good breeze near the peak, but bring water and go out as early as possible.

Great hike. 6.2miles. Clockwise as suggested. Very hot in the afternoon. Watch out for bees at the latrine.

Great trail with really great views. Best hike I’ve done in Joshua tree I’ve done. Added on the Warren peak to this as well which was the best part. Went early in the morning and there was a nice breeze / nice temperatures overall. Would rate it as moderate depending on your fitness level.

This was a great hike and the payoff was totally worth it. Go early because the parking situation is limited and it fills up quickly.

Did this trail back in February and failed to write a review. The reward at the top is fantastic, but please be cautious of the dangerous scramble with a pack on. Very steep towards the top. It’s manageable with patience and a watchful eye. No ropes needed. Camped out on summit. Beautiful sunrise and sunset. Minimal lay-flat areas.

This is definitely my favorite hike in Joshua Tree. Not super challenging, and the perfect length. The trail weaves through many different rock formations and scenes of flora, which keeps it super exciting. Go clockwise unless you love steep and challenging uphills near the end of your hike.

Tough trail to complete during the summer but doable if you’re experienced. Completely exposed. Bring at least 3 liters of water. I hiked this Saturday, June 20 during late morning early afternoon. Recommended if you are looking for some solitude.

Trail is marked clearly throughout but highly recommended having a GPS point. The sun was scorching hot the day we went but the cool breeze made the 3hr hike totally manageable. There are some slippery areas so wear the right shoes and pack a lot of water! Parking area at the trailhead was almost full when we arrived on Sunday around 10am so get there early!
