The view from Mastedon Peak is terrific, although you have to be comfortable with a little boulder scrambling to achieve the absolute top.

As of October 2018 the portion of Mastedon Loop which coincides with the Lost Palms Oasis Trail is closed due to minor flood damage. There is no signage to indicate this if you start the Loop at the campground and go clockwise. Don’t know why, with all those rangers hanging out at the visitor center none thought to inform the hikers.

Easy. Easy. Easy.

This is a very enjoyable trail and easy to trek. But there is not enough directions on where it starts and ends. You just have to guess at what you’re doing.

Fantastic ✨

Well kept trail. Good views of rugged desert terrain. Oasis is cool break. Palms are great.

We did this trail as a night hike and it was pretty awesome. May want to bring gloves as there is a ton of bouldering to be had.

Pretty but VERY crowded

Unbelievably beautiful!! Worth the trek to the top

Fun little loop, saw some tarantulas!

Had a blast on this trail even though was 1 mile it was a little difficult as far as directions. you just have to stay on the pass and trust your judgment and you should be fine

Don’t know what we did wrong, but on this seemingly simple loop we got quite twisted, frustrated, and confused. Gorgeous views and nice signage (for the first half of the trail). Had a blast on the rocks.

Definitely a walk, not a hike. It’s very cool to see cactus all around, and we didn’t have a big problem with bees (which can be plentiful). The container for nature guide books was full of trash though — seems like it hadn’t been seen to by the time we got there (9am). Worth a stop if you are driving to or from Cottonwood!

Beautiful and easy hike. Divers vegetations.

lovely go in December

very pretty wish we had camped

Better for trail running than hiking. I took my young two daughters so it was a good challenge for us. No shade until the oasis.

Had a lot of fun here! Went towards the end of the day to catch the evening light for pictures, stayed until after dark to catch the stars. Family friendly with a lot of rocks to climb on. We did walk up on a good size rattle snake, we gave it its space and each party went their separate ways.

I love this trail. It’s very well maintained for being rated moderate. I was disappointed because I didn’t see any water at the oasis but the palms are beautiful there.

Beautiful easy hike in a valley full of rocks to be climbed!

interesting walk. We stayed at the Ryan campground so it was a very short way walk to the ranch. the remains were great for pictures.

A rock scrambler's dream! So many rocks to climb along the entire loop...a ton of fun! The loop itself is not that amazing...pretty, but you follow a short path. Get off the trail and enjoy this wonderland.

Very nice trail for running. Some tough points due to elevation but overall it’s fun and safe. The oasis end point is absolutely gorgeous.

Stunning at sunset!

Nice to get off the trail and explore the rock formations. Not crowded at all since it was over 100°F!

A lovely, short hike that offers some pretty views along the way and an oasis at the end.
Having started with the Ryan Mountain hike in the morning, we only got here at around noon and hiked out at about the same time that everyone else was coming back. As one would expect, it gets really hot in June (110+) but the hike isn't long and the oasis offers some shadow to rest in before heading back, making it doable even in summer. As always when hiking in a desert, just make sure that you carry a lot of water and wear a hat.

A short walk that can be done no matter how hot it is, which does come in handy in summer. Pretty rock formations around and we saw a rather impressive chuckawalla lizard.

Nice little walk - one of the few things that you can do even in the heat of a summer day. The cacti are really pretty and worth checking out.

It is a short and very easy trail. It does have some very interesting and beautiful rock formations. Great for taking pictures. The information signs are very informative and interesting.

If you like bouldering and lots of people around check out this tail. The rock formations are beautiful, but challenging and abrasive to navigate. We didn't hike the whole loop, but spent about 30 minutes here before venturing on to Lost Horse Mine and Ryan Mtn trails.

Not a hike, but a very cool spot to check out the teddy bear cholla. I’ll admit I wasn’t stoked on coming here, but I’m glad my friend convinced me. Loved seeing the cool cacti.
