Fun to see water in such a dry place. If only there were fish...

breathtaking views. started early and saw no one on the way up. Did start seeing the late risers in the way down. Windy at the top the day we went, so be prepared for that.

Did this trail in July, hot but not insufferable. Well maintained- going up is harder cardiovascularly while going down tougher on legs. Views are great at the top. Highly recommended

Nice views, but after taking in Sequoia, Kings Canyon, and Channel Island NPs during the same week, this was not that memorable.

Stunning at sunset!

A nice hike that doesn't take very long and offers some nice views of both the Joshua Trees and a lake/dam. The dam mostly dries up in summer but the area still remains greener than anywhere else in the park that I've seen and is certainly worth the hour or so that this hike takes.

Nice little walk - one of the few things that you can do even in the heat of a summer day. The cacti are really pretty and worth checking out.

A short hike that can get tough due to the temperature. Beginning of June, it was already in excess of 110 degrees during the day, so an early start is definitely recommended here. On the plus side, the trail is to a large extent in the shadow if you hike in the morning, and the 360 view from the top is definitely worth the effort. Just make sure that you carry enough water and wear a hat!

Definitely strenuous. Especially in the summer. Lots of folks turned back because they knew they didn’t have enough water. The view is amazing from the top. Not for the faint of heart.

This was a challenging hike! I agree with the Park Rangers that it's strenuous. The full sun and elevation climb make it a tough trail but it's a great workout. The lower valley trails are easier and prettier.

Best hike for the view. Its all uphill, so bring water and a hat, as the whole trail is exposed. Its rated as strenuous in the NP guide, but I think thats too keep the tourists at bay. I can see this being a hike people have to be rescued from....

Short hike, but uphill, but once at the top, you get a beautiful 360 degree view of Joshua tree NP and beyond. Some annoying tourists were at the top flying a drone, which was incredibly annoying so please respect the land and your fellow hikers. The constant buzzing and whipping of drones is incredibly distracting and annoying. Sorry I don't care about the dumb youtube video you are going to make or your instagram likes on a selfie of you. STOP IT. (enough ranting :} ).

A nice hike with lots of views. ..and steps. A moderate hike climbing, but easy climb down , and took only about 2.5 hours round trip including many photos and scenic pauses.

Not a hike, but a very cool spot to check out the teddy bear cholla. I’ll admit I wasn’t stoked on coming here, but I’m glad my friend convinced me. Loved seeing the cool cacti.

Love this hike. Gorgeous views. The parking is on a dirt road off the main road so if you don’t have 4 wheel drive just be aware (I have a corolla and drove very carefully).. Decent uphill work out. I have actually been inside the mine (there was a hole in the fence and couldn’t help myself). If you search carefully enough inside you will find a treasure. Graffiti from someone who was in a very famous band who passed away (I don’t want to say- you will have to look for yourself. It is on the ledge above the stairs). I felt reluctant to say anything because I don’t want anyone to be disrespectful to the mine or get hurt. But it is truly a treasure to see. !ALSO WANTED TO NOTE that while walking off the trail up to the mine, my friend walked close enough to a *RATTLESNAKE* to cause it to rattle. It was 5-6 feet long. So just be aware that they are up there. !

Super cool to see all these cactus. Bees were not a problem. A must see if you get to the park.

Great hike. Beautiful vistas. I’d avoid it during peak heat hours, but still very doable with good supply of water. Probably insane during the golden Hour for photos.

Beautiful 360-degree views await you at the summit! It’s not too difficult of a hike if you have proper footwear, sufficient water and sun protection. Go early in the morning and bring some snacks to enjoy at the top.

I really enjoyed this trail. The dam was kind of shallow, but the view was nice, there was lots of scenic background and great spot for taking photos.

A challenging but nice trail. It takes you high up the mountain.

Except for the very end, I never got bored! This was a great hike. Very few people and amazing views. There were definitely bees, but they don’t bother you if you do t bother them!

Great little walk. Truly an amazing little spot on the more desolate Colorado desert side of Joshua Tree. I wouldn’t say go out of your way but if you come in the cottonwood gate it’s worth the stop.

Really pretty hike! There are a couple steep parts but it’s really not that bad. Well worth the views and pretty wildflowers. Also true what someone else wrote about the bees, they sure like to hang around you so be careful.

Great for a quick workout, but I tend to go when no one is up there somehow and I can’t help but have this Erie feeling..

Considering that this is one of the few mountain hike around, it is fairly nice. It gives a nice view around, and is done very quickly (50 min up, 40 min down)

That was well worth the small detour! After a full day of walking around and being fairly dirsty, the sight of the pond/lake is very special. Small walk worth doing

If you are driving by, it's worth stopping to look at these Cholla cactus. Really in general, I think Joshua Tree is a lot about admiring the beauty of desert vegetation, and this is very special.

The cactus is cute. It's suitable to take pictures here before sunset.

The mountain is just in the center of the park. On the trail you will see the rocks you've hiked.

It's amazing that there is a lake in the heart of the desert.

Educational hike through a gorgeous area. Please note M-Th there may be a trail detour. Absolutely love the petroglyphs!
