Awesome hike! Moderately difficult on the way up, easy strolling on the way down. Bring a windbreaker if you can!

Spectacular views. Can be hard for folks who take time in adjusting to altitude low pressure at 10k ft

Done it 3 times. Once in 105 degree weather
It’s a good trail. Not simple, not too hard.

5/5 stars, great views of the park, some cool boulders and the oasis at the end was cherry on top! Definitely worth the trek. We had to start from the campgrounds and do the loop behind the Cottonwood Springs campground due to the road being washed out. Added an extra 2 or 2.5 miles, making the hike about 4 hours total.

Awesome experience second time around.

Did this hike two days ago. Cottonwood Trail, the main trail to Lost Palms, and the road to it, are closed due to being washed out from floods. If you want to hike to Lost Palms you can park at Campground A-B and take the trail toward Mastodon Peak. Once you pass the gold mine and Mastodon Peak go down the hill to Lost Palms Oasis Trail and take a left. Then it’s the Trail as normal to List Palms. This way adds about 1.5-2 miles to the normal hike. Great views as always.

Rock stairs!

This was a fantastic hike! Just under 3 miles, completed btwn 12:30pm and 2pm on Saturday, Nov 3rd. Great views during the entire hike with 360 degree views at the top. Listed as ‘Easy’ on AllTrails, the trail is very clean and well kept, but moderately strenuous for the 1.5 miles to the top. Hope to be able to do again in the future as a run.

Nice, short steep hike. 3.5 stars if there was a half star allowed. Views are the similar throughout the trail. Did see some mountain sheep about half way on the trail.

Very nice!

Short but rewarding hike with panoramic views from the summit. Rather steep on the way up, but manageable for anyone in reasonable shape. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a shorter hike, it took approximately 90 minutes at a leisurely pace with time for photos at the top.

good medium length hike with intense elevation, it will have your legs aching. great 360 degree vista at the top and many beautiful rock formations. we saw lots of bighorn, they were badass. have fun get there early, in Oct we had face full of sunshine 80% of the way

Good hike- start earlier as the sun is intense and the hike is very exposed. Super dry climate so drink a lot of water! Lots is stairs and consistent incline all the way up. Good 360 views from the top.

A mile from round valley 600 ft gain. Worth it for the view. Usually a breeze. Nice stop on the way to peak. Enjoy

Hiking was easy and definitely not difficult unless you have never hiked and don’t do any exercise. The views were spectacular.

Beautiful desert trail - saw the sunset on top. Vivid colors of the sky.

This is known as the shortcut to the cactus to clouds but it’s still pretty intense. I loved the scenery on this hike. I did this one about a month ago (early September) and it was about 100 degrees in Palm Springs but it’s about 30 degrees cooler at the top of the tram in the park so pack accordingly. I tried to get a ticket for the tram on the website but they were out so I just showed up 30 mins before the first tram at 8am and was able to get a ticket no problem. The hike is pretty easy to follow and shaded most of the way so it helps. The last 10th of a mile requires some scrambling but nothing too crazy.

Overall a good experience.

Loved this trail! Although I felt it was a little longer than 1.5 miles each way that could be because it consisted of straight uphill incline for most of the hike. Not shaded, so drink lots of water. Took about 2 hours total. Great 360 degree views of the park from the top of the mountain! Overall a solid hike and great workout.

One of our fave JT hikes — we always do it first thing in the morning because it makes 85% of the ascent shaded, which really makes a difference. It’s a lot of natural “stairs,” and pretty strenuous if it’s in the sun or you aren’t used to serious inclines. But the view at the top, and along the way, is amazing. It gets very windy at the top, so watch your hat. Again, recommend starting by 8:30am, not only for the shade but to watch the shadows change on the landscape as you climb... great photo ops.

Definitely a walk, not a hike. It’s very cool to see cactus all around, and we didn’t have a big problem with bees (which can be plentiful). The container for nature guide books was full of trash though — seems like it hadn’t been seen to by the time we got there (9am). Worth a stop if you are driving to or from Cottonwood!

Awesome. Definitely not a hike if you’re looking for solitude, but beautiful and not too strenuous. Nice views from the peak.

Could not hike entire trail due to a closure, so hiked a loop (made via another trail) back to parking lot. Fantastic hike, beautiful vegetation.

I’ve done this hike to the peak of Mt San Jac three times. I always enjoy it. Great views. Bring at least 3 liters of water and food to keep your engine running. At altitude above 6,000 feet, I typically drink about a cup of water every 45 minutes. I got altitude sickness on the Mt. Whitney trail once...This hydration schedule has worked for me!

love it. beautiful view. cool weather.

#5 of our six pack. Perfect weather. Beautiful hike. Distance 12 miles Elevation 3110. Departed from the tram at 9:30. Peaked at 2:00. Back at the tram by 7. Took Hiking guy's advice and left our backpacks by the hut to make it easier to scramble up the rocks at the peak. Incredible views - contrasting desert vs forested mountains. Got off trail on the way back which added an extra mile. Thank goodness for Alltrails!

We saw 5 squirrels on this hike! 10/10 would definitely recommend!

very pretty wish we had camped

lovely trail we did it in December

Breath taking view but not for the weak

i was skeptical at the beginning that I could make it to the top since it was my first time hiking long distance. but I made it. I was so happy. the view was awesome and the weather up there is always cool in the summer.
