A great short hike. The waterfall at the end is really beautiful. Gets a little hard at some places, otherwise a moderate hike. I will not suggest taking kids because there are few points with pretty steep and slippery climb.

Fantastic views, worth the climb. Starts off flat, becomes very rocky and steep with lots of roots. Loved it!!!

Moderate uphill hike with roots and boulders along the way, but the waterfalls are beautiful and well worth the effort!

This nature walk has been a tradition in my family for years. I always loved going every year a child and now bringing my children. Bring a good picnic and make a day.

Hiked up on 8/4 with the whole crew of kids- 9, 8, 6, and 4- its a little steep at some parts but definitely doable for kids- great falls at the top- if you go up the right side of the falls there’s a better spot 1/2 way up to rest and have lunch/snack

Did this rocky hike with the best friend and pup! Spray yourself with bug spray prior. The trail was lined with the river/creek almost the whole entire way up, and there were multiple bridges on the hike that let you take in the views. 10/10 would recommend!! It took us about 3 hours and 15 mins but we hung out at the waterfall for an hour.

Well marked trail. Strenuous at times - but worth the view of the falls once you arrive.

Only downfall was having to wait 30 min to even get into the park due to it being at capacity.

Very rainy solo hike in the AM on 8/3, due to the rain the trail was completely empty. This isn't a great trail to do in the rain as the food path basically works as a slippery clay drainage creek. Other than getting very wet, it's an enjoyable short trail with some interesting boulders and nice waterfalls which were at peak capacity due to the current monsoon season. I know the trail is rated hard, but it's actually very easy as it's really short and the climbs are moderate. Up near the falls you do have to scrabble around a bit but it's not technically challenging. I think this would be a great hike for kids 8+ due to the length and interesting elements. I plan to do it again with the family in tow next time.

Hiked this with my kids on a hot summer afternoon. It's an interesting hike with lots of different views. The lower section along the river is woodsy and pretty traveling along the river. Then you go uphill (and more uphill) giving you some expansive mountain views and some interesting giant rock faces. The falls are beautiful, but when we got to the top we heard music...large group of middle school age campers blaring not-so-great music and hanging out. Still worth it though. It's a heck of a lot quicker getting back to the bottom than making the climb!

Meh. I didn’t have my trekking poles so, I turned around at about 2.5 miles. Before I turned around the trail was very nice though. I will definitely go back and attempt it again.

problem is...... they do not open the park until 9AM!

I did this trail today for the second time. It was the first time for my dog and a friend who came along. All three of us definitely felt the difficulty of scrambling over boulders and rock stairs, but that was part of the fun of it. Trekking poles help, I wouldn’t do it without them. It’s a beautiful trail, with a lot of variety of terrain, and will certainly give you a work out.

Awesome hike with an amazing waterfall at the end. You might have to wait an hour in front of the park because of limited parking spaces. You can spend that time talking to the park rangers about the hike options. After walking around 1 mile from the parking, you will reach an inter section from where the trail divides into two part. The right red trail is the rainbow falls trail. If you take the left blue one, you can go to jones gap falls about a mile ahead. The rainbow falls hike is moderate in the first half, then will get a little hard and the last stretch will get easy. Will not recommend small children as there are too many big rocks and then can hurt themselves. Also the steep incline in the middle can be difficult for the small children.Overall the hike is good and the waterfall at the end is refreshing!!

Great trail, but there is not a sign for the trail. you must first begin on another trail that forks in two directions, continue on the right to reach the falls.
Challenging hike with uneven terrain, but worth it in the end. It took me about 2 hours to complete with a few short breaks on the way up.
This trail ended up being a little bit over 5 miles, not 4.3 like this app says.

Loved this trail! It is fairly difficult and a steep incline 80% of the way up, but the waterfall and mountain views were truly worth it. We highly suggest doing this if you’re looking for something with some challenge. We got stuck in a thunderstorm and it was still not too bad.

Really fun trail! Almost all up hill on the way there but it’s worth it to see the gorgeous waterfall.

Great trail, especially for out of shape women! Several waterfalls on the way to the lovely namesake! Lots of rain lately and all the water was rushing throughout the park. Recommend an early start to avoid the afternoon crowds on weekends.

My 6 yr old had no problem! it was great

One of the most beautifully crafted nature trails. Not the longest or steepest, but a great workout with a wonderful reward.....

I hiked this in early March and the views at bald knob were spectacular. I loved the little waterfalls and mountain views along the trail. I can't wait to do it again. Be aware: it is 7.2 miles to bald knob and back, NOT the summit.

It was HARD!!! But definitely worth it

Did this trail with my kids and we loved it! Difficult in areas but worth it in the end!

What an amazing place. Pictures cannot do justice to the scale of Rainbow Falls. Getting there is quite an uphill journey, but well worth it!!!

Definitely a bit challenging with the roots and some steep terrain but 100% worth it for the beautiful waterfall!!

As good as it gets for a medium hike. It is very strenuous and steep, and you must traverse roots and rocks, but there are some easy inclines and declines along the way.
It was brutally hot and bug-infested the day I went. The payoff is worth it. The trail of s decently marked and maintained. Keep to the left, when in doubt, on the way up. Look up from the bottom of the falls by taking a small steep trail.
One of my favorites in SC!

I did this hike today with two I teenage girls and two dogs. This was HARD!!! I thought I was in better shApe. I’m not. I had to take many breathers, BUT it was SO worth it!!!! The falls were. Amazing. Nice cool breeze and beautiful falls. We took 3 1/2 hours.

Short but tough hike. The falls are beautiful with an option to hike higher and see more of the falls! I would not recommend taking your toddler like I did :)

Beautiful!

Beautiful falls, worth the hike!

This trail is a great uphill workout and if you are looking for that sort challenge this is the trail for you because all your efforts are rewarded with an AMAZING waterfall at the end. It is grand - almost Undisturbed- peaceful. My 10 and 11 year old boys did this with me and we had the waterfall to ourselves for two hours. Well worth the hike. Easy access. Easy parking.
