This hike starts out really steep and you wonder if you'll ever make it, but it's fairly short so by the time you get done, you're like oh, that's it? The app said there was a view, and there wasn't, but it's really pretty scenery all the way up and down. (trickling streams, bridges, mossy boulders, ferns galore)

It is always a nice trail but seems longer than 3,6 miles, I thought around 4.6 which is what I found in another site and also confirmed by my phone. I had an enjoyable time.

Beautiful!

With 2 kids, this hike usually takes us 4 hours. (3 hours up, 1 hour down) The views at the top are so worth it!

pretty views and great trail for beginner to intermediate hikers

Did the old trail up and new trail down on Friday 12/07. This past week the weather was amazing so the hike was great. Started hitting light snow about 3,400 feet which increased with elevation.
Was all packed down though some parts were a little icy. I went without spikes or poles which would have been nice but not a necessity yet. The old trail up was definitely a challenge. I made it to the mailbox in 1:50 so I was hauling. The way down on the new trail took about 2:25 as I was taking my time but could definitely be done faster. Very rewarding hike!!

way to over crowned its like the pumpkin spice latte of hiking.

Beautiful hike! You definitely need snow cleats and a pole, but no snow shoes required. This is a popular trail, so the snow on the trail has been compacted down. We started at 8am and only ran into one group of hikers at the top, but we passed plenty on the way down. I definitely think the snow makes this hike more beautiful! Great hike, even if you're new to winter hiking.

Over crowded trail.

Amazing peaceful hike. Hiked Friday last week and was snowing heavily. Wore Yaktrax but some steep icy switchbacks near summit so lightweight spikes would have been better. Had to scramble a little and butt slide down parts. Park in Alpental Ski area then walk up road beyond the ‘No vehicles sign’ and the trail is on your right: look for steps.

Overall beautiful. Lots of water crossings so def need waterproof boots.

Hiked this yesterday & loved it! There were some good inclines & minor rock climbing, but what a view at the summit! It's worth the drive from Kitsap!

nothing spectacular about this hike, parking area is packed crowds galore, summit is not much view either there is restrooms at the top, prolly wont hike this again

Beautiful view at top. Moderate difficulty, short and sweet, shaded hike, not too much variety in scenery along hike.

I went there this morning December 1/2018. The the first mile was very easy and my micro spikes were enough. The snow got deeper so I used my snowshoes. It was the perfect day for it.

One of my favorites of the Seattle Tinder pic circuit. The views at the top are so so amazing and the hike is a bit challenging.

Very challenging hike. There's other more beautiful hikes in the area, but the workout is worth it for this one.

It was a wonderful day for hiking after a few days of rain. Trail is a bit muddy but the view is nice. We were amazed with clouds floating around the mountain.

BEAUTIFUL Hike! Worth the destination AND the journey. There are three ledge lookouts. Most people just stopped at the first before turning back. It's worth hiking another 1/4 mile or so to the next two ledges. the All Trails Topo map makes it easy to find them. I went on a Thursday. There were definitely others on the trail, but not nearly as crowded as it appears to be on the weekend. If I lived in the area, this would be a reocurring hike for me.

Excellent trail, well maintained. Nice path, very gorgeous view. It was Smokey the day we completed so could have been better, but we did expect that!

Great sunrise hike yesterday. Started at 6 am no one else on the hike up & at the top.

Excellent trail that is great for beginners. As other reviews state it is an extremely busy trail so try to get started as early as possible to get a good spot at the top. If you are so inclined bring a trash bag to help pick up the litter, unfortunately people leave quite a lot of trash at the top.

If you're feeling froggy when you reach the lower ledge keep hiking up another mile or so and you can get to the middle ledge, which is much less crowded and offers the same amazing views. I haven't made it to the highest ledge yet but that's the goal for next time!

Lots of dogs and kids on the trail. Can watch the paragliders as they go down. The first half is lots of rocks and stones so watch your step if it’s been raining. Nice views at the top. Took us 1hr to get up and 45 to get down, under 4 miles total. Good afternoon hike.

Beautiful trail, awesome view!

Night time hiking trying to break mountaineering boots in. Not a good idea I advise everyone not to try but I did it anyways. This is not my only time going up to check the mail. For as close as a fun hike it is it’s wonderful for conditioning! Old trail up and down this time. The new trail down is about the same time as the old if you do some ruining.

Nice little workout. Lots of uphill, and then downhill. haha. Literally walking up a mountain. Had to slow down for our older pup. She made it, but was huffing and puffing. The view is ok I guess? Not really a trail Id go and tell people they need to hit. a family said they counted 26 dogs on the trail. This is definitely heavily traficked.

It was a bit crowded but well maintained and beautiful weather on the 50 degree sunny late November day.

took the dog on this route today, go early on the weekends the parking area was filled by 8am when we arrived and there was groups of 3-5 on way back down after 10am the crowds get insane took twice as long to get down then go up, but good hike for a early morning hike and back around 1pm

Got to the trailhead a little after noon and the lot was full but there really weren’t many people on the trail. If the weather is nice you’ll likely see some paragliders landing at the trailhead. Beautiful view of the surrounding area and Mt Rainer at the first clearing and I’d recommend going up to the second clearing (Poo Poo Point) to get a view of Cougar Mtn and Lake Sammamish. Super short trail - only took us a little over an hour going up with a few breaks and probably 45 min going down at the most.

it’s almost an hour hike to the top and 1 hour return, very beautiful on the top, but super dangerous. Totally not recommended for those who hike with kids, some people have fallen and died from the ledge, but it worth it, amazing view when you reach the ledge.
