I brought our family from Virginia, an 18,16,and 13 year old and my own kids 11,9,7,and 5 year old. Good snow, icy at the top. Beautiful at the top, good for all ages.

A beautiful hike! The trail is covered with snow, so it is a bit slick in places - especially above the Lower Falls side trail. Definitely want to go back and hike all the way to the reservoir!

Nice short hike, a bit washed out with some loose rock areas. Views are well worth it!

I hiked this again yesterday. Beautiful hike as always. The rivers and falls are now frozen. Adds a whole new beauty to this hike. Better hike if you go across the bridge and head up and around the back of the lake.

If anyone sees a leatherman in a case, my sister dropped hers (custom made 18 yrs ago) and would love it back if someone picks it up.

I did this hike on Nov 16th, and chose a day that the weather would be pleasant. I recommend bringing sunglasses or a hat because the trail goes southeast the whole way and the sun was right in our eyes. It was a beautiful day, icy but sunny. It was pretty slick on the way down with the hard packed snow, so be sure to have good treads on your boots. If you are with amateurs like I was, I would definitely go early in the day. It will take over 4 hours to go down and back, especially if you want to sit for a while and enjoy the sunshine on the smooth cool-looking rocks up top, overlooking the lake. Once we were out of the sun, it was quite cold so gloves and a hat were nice. We went later in the season, so we only met a couple other hikers along the way. We did come across some deer up close, darting across the trail.

Hiked this trail veterans day. The gate was still open. parking lot says three forks tailhead, but it's for fifth hotsprings. there's a restroom in the Parking lot. come early. By 1 the Parking lot is crowded. I started at 10:30 and it was 28 degrees. Beautiful hike. lightly dusted with snow. springs were beautiful, not crowded and warm. trail is easy to find, but I had no cell service so be prepared. enjoy!

Phenomenal. Gate was still open as of 11/12/2018. No need for trekking poles. Small ups and downs, but nothing to terrible.

Great hike for all experience levels. When I went, there were plenty of families with kids, trail runners, and pups on the trail. There was no snow or frost when I went.

Difficult on the way down due to slippery gravel. Great view at top! Good hike with 2 eleven year olds.

On a clear day, it is a STUNNING view. Even on a smoky day, it’s still beautiful. It’s a steep hike up and not marked. However, it’s pretty self-explanatory. It’s well-traversed enough. You get to this first lookout area that’s flat, which means you’re almost there!

Great hike. Started to snow on the way up and was really slick coming back down. Would suggest micro spikes for the downhill. Beautiful trail, Lake was frozen but still worth it.

Rated at 4 as i lost the trail both up and down and there was a decent amount of bush-whacking/scrambling. Only one area where it was slippery enough to use spikes going up today, about 20 or so feet. 2 hours up.

Hey, I got old knees. They sure did get a work out! This hike can be strenuous, but the payoff is incredible. The water fall is frozen with small trickles of water running through the icicles. Breathtaking! Busy trail with friendly people. Question? -trail runners, man or machine?

Sunny. No material wind. Microspikes not needed today. Only a few brief slick areas on trail. Started at 11:20am, 37 degrees at S curve. Parking lot closed for season. Wore tank, baseball cap, wool gloves and tights. Didn’t use wind breaker, could have gone with shorts, would still suggest gloves for top. Took me 1:15 from trail head to top, if you’re somewhere in that range or faster would highly recommend shorts. Enjoy!

Great hike!! Very beautiful scenery, especially at the top. Took about 2hrs to reach the top, moving at a quicker pace. The trail is a steady incline, and very rarely levels out. May prove difficult to someone unaccustomed to physical activity, but certainly doable. Some small ice patches, but not enough for crampons yet. Would definitely recommend grippy shoes/boots and some trekking poles.

It was a very easy to follow trail with some beautiful views. Basically all uphill to get there and all downhill coming back so I hope you're in better shape than me. The lake is frozen which was a little dissapointing but still beautiful. There were a couple icy spots on the trail but most of it is still clear. The parking lot is closed for the season. I would recommend starting the hike around noon. We started around 9 and were hiking straight into the sun all morning. Up near the lake are some colorful rock formations that are pretty cool and Sundial Peak is breathtaking.

Great, pretty easy hike in November. It was more crowded than we expected for a Thursday in November. The water felt great. Several cows were in the area when we got to the springs (but not too close to the water, thank goodness!) Parking lot was over full when we got back to the trailhead after 1 pm.

A nice gentle slope and walk through the woods until the last 150m.

You have to walk across the stream, skipping over stones and logs. The last 35m is a scrambling rock climb, pretty treacherous, so unless you have good climbing skills and suitable footwear, don’t even try it. If it’s been freezing it’s a no-go as the rocks are quite smooth and impossible to scale. Nice cave with waterfall at the top following the climb.

Hike is fun and gives a great view over SLC. You park on the road and walk up. Look for the Yellow sign with numbers as this is the start of the trail - there are no signs for it. TV remote is a nice touch.

Beautiful view! Just like most people describe, this trail delivers a nice short, challenging jaunt.

I've read in other blogs that it is recommended to extend your trip to Mount Wire, a continuation of the Living Room Trail. I also recommend the summit Mount Wire to the old radio tower (breathtaking), but I would say taking the southeast route to the summit FIRST would be much easier (counter clockwise). That stretch is steep with loose rock scree and is difficult coming down. That way you'll have the Living Room to reward yourself with on the descent.

If you're just doing The Living Room, that is great too.

Very beautiful and enjoyable, however there are a lot of different trails and none of them have a marker so you kind of have to figure it out yourself. Good luck.

is the gate closed yet?

i liked it pretty short so go to red butte and make it a loop!

I liked this trail a lot. It is pretty rocky in some areas but not any big deal. There’s a lot of snow once you reach 9k feet and not being into postholing and wet socks I turned back. The old mine is pretty cool. Lots of water available all along the route if you filter. I’ll definitely be back to complete this one.

literally best hike ever. I tracked it as 8.3 miles and took 4 hours but would probably take 5 at a more leisurely pace. lots of snow right now! really intense legit a hard hike. climbed 195 flights of stairs. please take a flashlight with you. this trail can take a long time and hiking poles would be smart

Phenomenal views at the top. The hike itself is challenging but more because of the length than the grade or terrain.

So gorgeous! Tough climb up if you’re not a regular hiker but so worth it.

Mild incline, great views. Trail starts out muddy and gets snowy towards the end. You shouldn’t need microspikes just yet, hiking shoes/boots with good traction and/or trekking polls should suffice. It’s much colder at the lake, so make sure you bring adequate clothing to layer up when you get there.

Super fun trail 100% recommend

Beautiful went in October and nov colors were beautiful keep going around to see smaller lakes there are a couple of water falls that way defiantly worth the hike
