HikingGreat!

I felt like I was walking through a Lord of the Rings Movie the whole time on this trail. I definitely recommend going down the devils staircase, as opposed to going up. Also longer than 15 miles, my GPS clocked just over 17. A true gem of a trail, would absolutely recommend.

Beautiful from start to finish. Very windy on Hurricane Pass, as you might imagine. Bring a puffy.

We didn’t do the loop just went up and back. 15 miles approx. absolutely beautiful! Chilly in the morning, we started at 8:30. Warmed up perfectly the rest of the day. Great balance of shade and sun. Easy going trail, not too steep. We did see a moose off in the brush too!

Emily Jury's comment is spot on: this loop is just over 17 miles, not 15. Plan accordingly. Great views. Trail is in good condition, but the descent (assuming you choose to ascend via Devil's Staircase ) is a little bit rocky.

What a delightful day! First the loop is not 15 miles but 17.2...we all know how a couple miles can make some people cranky! But gorgeous and pretty mellow. Devils Staircase wasn’t that devily but the smoke from the fires was shitty. Saw some of those moose things and only a few other humans. Certainly a great place to see cool Mountain View’s! I can see where it gets crazy busy cause parking lot was packed on a Covid Monday (everything is packed these days). Anyways enjoy, bring lots of h2o, and tuna.

HikingGreat!MuddyScrambleSnow

Great trail! The left side goes up the valley and is easier elevation while the right side goes up the ominously named Devils staircase. 1500 feet in 1.5 miles. No snow from the Sept 7 storm to cause issues on that portion. The better views are with the higher elevation so I would go counter clockwise. There was snow on the plateau and higher up in valley. Up to knee deep but hopefully melts down soon. Also lots of downed trees. Took me 10.5 hours for the loop but I take my time.

Was closer to 17 miles. Lots of vegetation on a very thin trail, causing poles to constantly get stuck. We did the loop clock wise but recommend counter clockwise

Incredible! The basin was definitely worth the hike up. I went directly up, not going up the devils staircase. Overall, the hike was difficult with our baby, but it was very doable and the elevation gain was pretty gradual. We saw a moose standing across from someone's camp eating a pair of nylons/pants/leggings (I didn't dare get close enough to tell). If you lost some pants off of your clothesline, it was probably a moose! There was plenty of water in the streams to filter along the way!

Wow - pretty spectacular wildflowers and scenery in August. Absolutely stunning - devils Staircase is better for the loop coming down , recommend clockwise direction for sure.

Stunning trail! Saw a moose towards the bottom of the trail around dusk. Lost my cameras memory card around Sunset Lake if anyone has found one lol

We went up Devils Staircase and around to Mt Meeks Pass, then down the rest of the Alaska Basin loop. We also took several detours to lakes. It was absolutely stunning!!!!!

Hike into basin for overnight, didn’t climb devils stairs. Took us 4 hours for 9 miles in at a leisurely pace. Beautiful wildflowers the whole the way.

A beautiful hike with moderate elevation gain and beautiful fields of wildflowers. Looks like the Swiss Alps! A bit confusing with the mileage, the hike was 3 miles up to the junction of Alaska Basin/Devils Stairs and a few other trails. The hike to that junction point and back was 6 miles total.

Absolutely beautiful. A great long day hike or an easy overnight. Lots of little creeks crisscrossing the trail for easy water. If you're staying the night in the Basin area, I highly recommend briefly popping up to sunset lake and Hurricane Pass for beautiful views of the Tetons.

Fantastic trail. One of the most beautiful hikes ever. Starts off in a pine tree forest with stream crossings, moves through a meadow with 7ft tall wildflowers this time of year. Then picks up elevation at the split to Devils Stairs. Follows along the water which is beautiful. Be sure to pack bug spray, lots of mosquitos and flies right now. Opens up to views of the basin at the top with other trail continuation options. Very sunny for some of the sections, overall not crowded. We hiked to Sunset lake and back for a day hike, which totaled just about 18 miles. Took us 8 hours with breaks, easily a great day hike.
