Just another badly marked and cryptic trail that will easily get you lost. Even the trail head maps were off the mark. Got lost after waiting for the local "Trail Nerds" group run that never showed (not even sure they exist anymore) and found myself super lost in the dark. Not to mention LOTS of rocks, somewhat dangerous for runners and the occasional weed smokers on the trail make it for a annoying and disappointing experience.

Beautiful trail through a forest. Able to see many different wildlife: deer, rabbits, cardinals, bluejays, and butterflies everywhere.

Simple trail. Should be better maintained, improved because it is a memorial to true heroes.

Gets crowded with bikers and runners.
Fun little walk

A friend and I hiked part of the orange trail and all of the red trail on a recent Saturday. Our whole hike was about 7 miles. Even though we hiked during the middle of the day, the trail was partly shaded and comfortable in temperature. This was my first visit to Shawnee Mission Park, and it is beautiful! The visitor's center staff is very friendly and provides free detailed maps. Like some other reviews mention, there are some large rocks and tree roots on the trail. Since we were hiking, this was not a problem, but it may be a challenge for a beginning biker. I can't wait to go back and try the other trails!

Super fun bike trail! I did this on a rather warm day in the end of June, but there was plenty of shade along the trail to keep it cool. The trail itself is dirt/packed stone and a very easy ride. It rained heavily the day prior, but the trail was perfectly fine with only a few little muddy bits.

Great trail if you want to get a quick and easy 20 miles in.

My go-to trails in the area. rocky, rooty, and varied.

Good for hiking, not the best for mountain biking due to the quantity of loose rocks

the trail has gotten. little more challenging since I rode it a couple years ago. but, it was a great ride and I had lots of fun.

Love this Trail.

Very easy to follow. There is a map at the beginning, showing different paths and their distances. This trail acts as a memorial to retired and fallen Kansas City Police Officers and offers a view of the training academy.

Another Great Missouri State Park. it has so much to offer, we take visiting family members and friends out to see this place and try to schedule a tour of the mill, along with forcing the to either ride bikes around the lake or a nice walk around it. just long enough to get everyone breathing in some fresh air. However i stayed the night one night back in July of 2017, and I was sitting on picnic table having a snack and i had a fire in the pit, when all of the sudden I heard what sounded like a bobcat scream, when I jumped up to see just what the heck just happened. and it was two raccoons fighting just on the other side of the picnic table in was trying to have a snack. I was sleeping in a tent that night also. I couldn't hardly sleep there were raccoons creeping around all night. Then morning rolled around and i was gathering stuff to pack up, there was one in the bed of my truck and had been chewing on my cooler, trying to rip me off, then he was reluctant to get out. I had sprayed insect repellent around when I first got there. I would have thought that would kinda keep those guys away to. Nope.

Loved all of the paved and forest trails! There is also a really awesome dog park here too!

Clean maintained concrete path trail. very easy, very fun! Great for families, dogs, and joggers.

Great for long bike adventures with small towns. Not great if you are looking for big hills. Some stretches of the trail are so straight you can see a mile ahead of you.

well marked. lots of pleasant miles available.

Great, well maintained rail-trail. I love it for long runs with the pup. Runs through rural Kansas countryside and through some small towns.

Spent the afternoon at Watkins Mill Park. Beautiful late Fall day with temps in the upper 50’s. I brought my road bike and rode around the lake first. It’s about 4 miles and a pretty smooth ride on the asphalt trail. I then hiked the same trail on foot with a few stops to snap some pictures. This is a nice park including the lake with wild geese, a running stream and quite a bit of forest area. The beach is open in the summer, and there is a boat launch as well as picnic areas and restrooms. Spend some time to tour the old mill if you can too. Watkins Mill State Park is worth visiting many times.

Very busy with lots of off leash pooches to greet you.

beautiful in the fall. well marked and easy to navigate.

Kind of narrow rough concrete in some areas. somewhat scenic in areas. Good access to Farmer Market from the back.

One of the best rail trails to hike or bike in Michigan. Very scenic with tunnels of trees, a cider mill, and the Paint Creek along the way. Easiest to start in Rochester and go to Lake Orion and then come back - due to the elevation.

We actually did the Orange, Gold, Red and Violet trails on this one hike. Very rocky throughout. Wear hiking boots for sure. And bring water!! Be careful of bikers in the narrow parts of the trail.

Best scenery on entire Katy trail.

Beautiful ride... the scenery was breath taking. The trail was so well taken care of. All the people I met were so friendly. It's just a fun day and I can't wait to get back in the fall to see all the fall colors.

These trails are for mountain biking. If you look at the map at the trail head, it identifies them as biking trails. We hiked them because of the reviews here and found out quickly that they are too narrow for a biker to pass a hiker without said hiker having to step completely off the trail and into thick underbrush. The park is lovely, though, and there are much better places for people not on bicycles to have fun (including actual hiking and walking trails south of the lake.)
