How to get there from Interlaken (~1 hour):
Take a train to Lauterbrunnen from either Interlaken Ost (if you are staying northern side of Interlaken) or Wilderswil (if you are staying in the southern side of Interlaken). From Lauterbrunnen buy a ticket to Murren. To get to Murren you take a cable car up to Grütschalp and then a train to Murren. The trail start is about a 5 minute walk from the Murren train station.

Impressions of the hike:
The hike was challenging and absolutely stunning. I wanted to stop every 5 minutes and take a photo. Also encountered some cows along the way! The first 4 miles of the hike are a steady ascent up and a pretty good workout as it steep in some portions. The last 0.5 miles up to Schilthorn are where it starts to get interesting. The last half mile is a scramble up rocks, snow and ice so I would highly recommend bringing good hiking boots/trail runners or trekking poles. I did not have trekking poles, but did have to catch myself a few times from slipping due to ice. The views both up and down were incredible. As a side note, if you only want to hike up to Schilthorn, you can buy a ticket down. This ticket will get you all the way to Lauterbrunnen and will cost about 62 CHF.

Do this hike if you are physically fit. Take your time and enjoy the beautiful sights.

very gorgeous, lots of rocky, graveled path, good shoes needed! last part to vogel is a little harder, more open ridges, higher climb. at the end a wonderful hike.

I walked this trail with a good friend in Oktober of 2017. We took the train to the station on Schynige Platte and hiked from there. The views of the Eiger, Monk and Jungfrau are beyond imagine. On the other side, the overlook of Brienzersee is equally stunning, more in the sheerness of the edge. There is a 2 meter section of the trail that narrows on both sides. It was all I could do to make it across. Had a great time and am looking forward to doing more hiking in this gorgeous country!

It was so pretty!!! The top is a little crowded, but the hike up was beautiful and worth the crowds. We hiked above the lake and it was much more serene. Don’t take the gondola! The trail is to the left of the parking lot! Have fun

The trail around the lake is rated T4 in some sections above the eastern shore. There are steel cables placed in the most critical parts although before entering and after leaving this area the trail requires absolute concentration as some sections are unrecognizable as trail because of rock slides and washes.
It’s well worth it if you’re looking for some excitement and spectacular views.

There’s a couple of ways to do this hike. You can do it one way up or down... or you can do the whole loop which is (very weather dependent) an impressive (insane) hike.

If you want to do it one way up from Murren you should know this: If you make it all the way to the top of the Schilthorn you CAN buy one way cable car tickets down at the Piz Gloria gift shop.

However, if you get tired or weather moves in as it did when I was going up and you need to bail out at Birg they DO NOT sell tickets there and you’ll have to beg the cable car operator to let you go down or up and pay at those locations.

Also, it is extremely important you know the cable car hours! The last one down when we were there was 17:55!!! It’d be one cold, wet, dark and dangerous hike back to Murren if you got caught up there in a storm.

The way up from Shiltalp is a tough one and is pretty exposed. Lots of people come down from Birg or the Schilthorn (it’s big with the Rick Steve’s crowd), but we didn’t see a single person going up besides us all day!

The way up via Schilthornhutte is a little less exposed and gives you more options for cover if the weather gets lousy. This is a better route to take if weather is a concern.

This is a great hard hike. And probably the most beautiful hike I’ve ever done. It’s stunning from beginning to end.

Just keep an eye on the weather.

Amazing hike! Challenging as others stated. I followed this route and it was a solid 2 hours from Murren to top of Schilthorn. There is a water fountain near the bathrooms in Piz Gloria so don’t pay for the restaurant water. Descent took nearly as long as it’s technical, especially the first 2 miles. Some runnable sections near the bottom and lots of cows. Enjoy!

fantastic place

Absolutely beautiful hike. It's quite easy but still surprsingly varied. Obviously, lots of people (we were there at 9am already, and almost all parking lots were taken). Be aware that when parking lots are full, there will be police who will not let you get anywhere close to the lake, and if we understood it correctly, entry is actually blocked from 10.30am-2pm. So definitely either go there in the morning or evening.

This trail was a lot more challenging than we thought. Once you start, make sure you take your time, take a lot of water breaks and enjoy the scenery changing gradually with the altitude. The views are breathtaking and rewarding the more you approach the summit.

* Careful coming back down because it’s pretty steep and slippery.

In order to get to the starting point you have to take the cable car and bus from Lauterbrunnen to Mürren where you will begin your journey.

Enjoy the workout guys!

Fantastisch. Vooral het ommetje langs de koeien.

Amazing. I went a few years ago before I knew about this app. The views are breathtaking. Gorgeous hike in the mountains and the water is unlike anything I have ever seen. A must!

It's an amazing trail. In summer you'll get the best view. Don't take gondola from kandersteg to Oeschinensee. It would be little harder, but it's totally worth it. This is the place which makes you fall in love with Switzerland. If you still have time and energy then you can also complete Heuberg loop.

Great views at top. Well worth a hike. Loop was 3hr trip

This trail was much harder than I expected but 100% worth it. Very lightly trafficked, recommend starting the top portion of the loop first, upon reaching the highest point of elevations you're presented with a breath taking view.

Best of the Best, you see everything

Heavy trail for running! Many parts have to be taken slowly. 100% off-road within nature.

First off my fellow hikers please do not follow my map! My GPS tracking looks like I’m a caged mouse scurrying around looking for her cheese! I couldn’t even find the gelato store when I got off the Ferry in Varenna

This is a Hard trail but the magnificent views make it worth it! To make it a little easier to get started on the trail I thought this may help: Use the app to find the trailhead as the signage in Murren (second stop on tram) is OK at best and no one we asked could get us to where we needed to be. AllTrails app was right on the money. Once on the trail it is easy to follow with some exceptions of traversing some snow higher up or on the final .5 mile where some scrambling up the rocks is necessary. That being said, there are arrows or symbols spray painted on the rocks to guide you where you need to go. We hiked up but rode the tram down because of our limited time. Awesome hike!

Amazing views. Definitely a must see. You can get different views all the time during the hike. At the end you can catch the bus so no need to go back on the trail.

Absolutely beautiful views from just above Murren. Part of our trail down from Murren to Winteregg and down to Lauterbrunnen went through lots of cows. Just amazing!

Should be called the Schynige Platte Panorama Trail - very famous, very beautiful. Train takes you to the visitor center at the top, which has a little patio restaurant with literally the best views in the world (and I mean that literally literally, not figuratively). The Panorama Trail hike is pretty easy and very beautiful, and only a taste of the hiking in the area, but do it!!

A splendid little hike. Very easy, Suitable for all ages and skill levels. There were a couple place that appeared to be trail closures, but it didn't appear to be serious and everybody was moving through unimpeded. Make sure to try your hand at skipping rocks from the rocky beaches, my record was 5!

The views along this trail are stunning, particularly in the area around the Malga Vaciara restaurant. The route isn't extraordinarily demanding physically, but miles 1.5-2.5 have extremely steep drops off the narrow trail. Not for the faint of heart, or those afraid of heights. For the weary hikers, it may be better to do an out-and-back to the Malga Vaciara, where one can enjoy a nice lager and wonderful vista.

Okay, didn't do this exact trail, but they don't have the exact path we took. We hiked Murren to Gimmelwald, then down into the valley. The down wasn't worth it because you were in the trees and I hate hiking down, but Murren to Gimmelwald is easy and amazingly beautiful, so 5 stars!

Pick any trail in this region. You will not be disappointed!
