Great hike. Very challenging, loose rocks and ascending route most of the time, very steep at some parts. Views are spectacular if the weather allows you. Although difficult but probably best hike I ever did!

very difficult, do not attempt in bad weather or with kids under 15 I’d say. but beautiful scenery and well worth the effort!

Very tough going this one. Misty from about half way up Devil's Ladder when I did it and very windy once you get onto the ridge. the journey down is tough going too and I found it very easy to lose the trail. Very important to have the app on your phone and lots of battery. Download the route before hand too. The car park requires two euros to get out of so I was stuck until a helpful chap gave me some spare change. Up to the ladder it's very easy going. But the ladder is challenging. In total it took me around 4 hours with very little break at the top. Well worth it though for the views I did get!

HikingGreat!

Carrauntoohil offers more rewarding views of the Emerald Isle than do the Cliffs of Moher in my opinion, but proper respect for the trail, knowing your limits, and bracing for the conditions are extremely important. Much, much less people come here than Moher, so it’s definitely less crowded and the elevation offers spectacular views. It took me about 5 hours round trip and I couldn’t recommend this hike enough. The summit post is a cross and the Devils Ladder is a challenging scramble but well worth it. September offered me a bright and relatively cloudless day. It can get windy and proper precaution is needed. The scramble does require good physicality and the exposed rock face can get very windy and the conditions may change due to elevation gain.

what an amazing route, when we set out we opted to go left. which starts off alot harder but you gain height quickly and you can see some amazing views. when you get to the ridge try stay high as possible and avoid going along the sides. the is a feint trail and rocks with white scratches you can follow which gives you some surety.

Really rewarding hike. Be prepared with plenty of layers and waterproofs. Good fitness is needed. Lots of climbing, enjoyed the devils ladder the most as it’s proper climbing and fun! The ascent to the cross feels tougher as you’re no longer using your hands. Ended up descending the ladder as well as we couldn’t see the other routes in the clouds and rain. It wasn’t too bad once you don’t look the full way down but it definitely more dangerous than climbing up. Wear hiking boots for the grip and to keep your feet dry as long as possible! Enjoy

3rd time climbing devils ladder. 26th September was a gorgeous day. sunny dry and barely any wind. The ladder is very tough and I find it tougher each time as rocks erode and move over time. I will try a different route next. Everyone should hike this though the views are out of this world and a great sense of achievement when you reach the bottom and look at how far and high you went.

Amazing hike with fantastic views. Would recommend to those looking for a more challenging hike with scrambling and climbing involved.

Went clockwise, went up just left of the lakes. Took it nice and handy. The weather was great, so visibility was good. This was my first time doing this loop walk and I have been planning to do it for a while but I wasn’t sure if I was fit enough before now, it was worth the wait though. It’s a tough walk so you really do need a good level of fitness. But it’s a great hike. I found the ridge ok, a little bit dodgy but as long as you take your time it’s grand. If you’re reasonably fit and you’re thinking about doing it, I would say go for it. It’s so worth it.

Finally got around to tackling Irelands highest mountain. This is a mountain that is definitely not for the faint hearted. You will be challenged but ultimately it is so worth it in the end. Would 100% reccomend paying close attention to the weather forecast. The better the weather, the better the hike. This is particularly the case when it comes to the Devil's Ladder. Tough and all as it is on a nice dry sunny day, I can only imagine how difficult it is in the wet. The views from the top were amazing, being able to see for miles and miles. Proper gear is essential. Bring plenty of food and water. Finally, if you've not hiked many mountains or are a complete amateur, do not attempt this mountain. If you've some bit of experience and have tackled many smaller mountains and are wondering about doing it. Go for it. Do your research, train, prepare, follow the weather forecast and go for it. Not every day you can say you've tackled a country's highest peak.
