Beautiful views of rugged terrain and herds of sheep throughout the hike.

Did the trail with three kids (7-13) while on vacation, so not ideal gear. Took us about 2.5 to get up and 2 to come down but the kids felt a great sense of accomplishment. Ankle high boots would have been great, but it’s definitely better with shoes that have a firmer sole. My trail runners were fine but the softer road shoes were not ideal.

Beautiful hike and really worth it! Views over the Killarney lakes from the top are amazing.

If you are a good hiker and used to going up mountains/volcanoes, this hike is fairly easy. A lot of loose rocks, so better not to do it in wet weather and better to do it with trekking poles, but nothing that feels like a strong workout.
And I’d say, taking your time, being careful with the terrain and with good gear, really accessible to all sorts of hikers.

Yeah, it’s touristy but that’s how I got to see this place. Amazing history and an incredibly serene place. Would love to go back here if I ever get the chance.

A lot of tourists. Try to go early.

Amazing hike. I did this hike with my boyfriend, both of us are quite serious outdoorsy people and love Ireland (he's from IE) so this was a great trip for the two of us. Whole thing took about 4 hours, we went during a hurricane last October, it was stormy but dry on ascent, just before summit it started pouring and didn't stop for the duration. Be prepared to scramble, climb and get soaked.

Rain wear, hiking boots and hiking poles are advised.

Great views if you’re lucky with weather. Took us four hours. Rescue helicopter came and pulled someone off of mountain while we were finishing.

Be aware that during rainy times some trails can be blocked to protect the public from falling stone due to erosion... how ever the walk on the cliff should be fine and always safe .
Amazing spectacular point of views.
Even if its very touristic as soon as you start to hike around it gets better as people usually just checks out the main rocks at the entrance.

Ahhhh, the faeries, no doubt!

views fab on a good day. need sticks on the way down

Great view at the top. Steep climb for the last 30 minutes of summit.

Steep and slippery but only a few parts. The view is worth it.

Amazing views from the top. Can’t believe this trail is almost on our door step. Will definitely be making the short trip to do it again.

started at Donard car park and cut through the forest . the trail is well marked out . It's climb all the way on rocks and stones. up onto steps to get to the saddle and a beautiful stone wall built in 1910 . the climb to the summit is very tough on the legs . hard gradient . coming down is a bit slow at summit . the rest is doddle

This hike is difficult. Wear ankle high hiking boots and bring walking sticks. Trail is almost all rock/gravel and STEEP. The views and difficulty make it well worth the experience. Just be prepared and bring a sandwich to enjoy once you reach the top.

Tough trail. You'll want to be confident in your hand and foot work for this trail. Ideally, wait for the weather to turn clear on the mountain - we went on a cloudy day and it was all wet above Devil's ladder.

The ladder isn't especially difficult for a seasoned scrambler, but it's high consequence due to the exposure, and can easily become soaked in rainy or cloudy conditions. Be very careful and choose your descent path on the ladder well.

Pack or wear a rain jacket and a lunch for the summit, since you'll want to leave early. Dogs not welcome on this trail.

A lovely hike. Great views on a clear day. Be sure that you're able to navigate and go prepared. Hiked it recently and when the fog came down it was very difficult to find the route back.

I have done Croagh Patrick a few times. It is an old pilgrim route and popular with all kinds of walkers. because of it's history and pilgrim Sunday I feel many people underestimate Croagh Patrick. People wear unsuitable clothing, footwear and do not go prepared for the weather which can change very quickly. As recent as last week in the midst of the hottest summer in 42 years the top was covered in cloud, it was cold and windy. 2 mile from car park to top, 2 hours up, 1.5 hours down. Easy to twist an ankle. Easy to suffer hypothermia. But a great walk if prepared properly.

Went on this hike yesterday and took a 9 and 10yr old. We left out the summits and headed straight to the saddle for spectacular views. The children’s parents did this same hike years ago as children too and everyone loved it. It’s hard going at parts but so enjoyable. Fabulous day out!

Really beautiful trail with fantastic views at the summit

I hiked this exact map yesterday and must say, it isn’t as easy as made out. Although when at the top of the summit it is spectacular

I agree its not that easy but well worth it...

Sadly too crowded, but well worth the view. Bring warm clothes because the whether change rapidly, high winds coming from North sea. Really nice spot.

This was an amazing hike with beautiful views. You need to make sure that you are prepared physically and mentally for this hike. It is difficult--take your time and stay safe! I definitely underestimated the amount of loose rocks.

We also sawany mountian rescue vehicles and the Irish coast guard out during out hike to rescue someone.

My very first hike, it was difficult but so rewarding. The views are spectacular all the way up and there are no words to describe the views of the fjord from the top. A must for everyone

Brilliant trail!

Challenging trail but completely do able. Views from the top are the best reward. Will do again.

Love this climb...a real challenge for me.

The trail is not dog friendly. We were with dog there last week and we were not allowed to hike there.

hidden gem for experienced hikers. we did a loop instead of turning back the same way. went to the top as shown in the map and them continued and descended towards Delphi resort. parts of the path are not signaled and trek is not obvious. stunning views from the top!
