Lots of snow and some very icy spots. Crampons highly recommended. Beautiful outcrops and very few people on the paths. Diverse loops and something for everyone and all skill levels. Trails marked clearly and free of any debris. Lots of dogs, most on leashes but not all.
At the split go left for about a mile plus of flat easy to rain. You can keep going if you want to go around and up and complete the loop. Or you can go right for about the same distance and go up to an elevation of about 500 feet which is a nice little hike as well. If you want to go all the way around you’ll go up another 500 or so feet. The views are gorgeous.
Did most of the yellow and red. Packed snow so can do in just boots. So good up hills in snow to get the heart pumping. The lake is solid ice so beautiful to walk over and see ppl ice fishing and playing ice hockey. Red trail less hard packed but still ok for boots. Not icey so did not need to spikes. Loved it and would do again!
Great for beginners
Freezing but amazing. Must come back in summer
Lovely easy trail, not crowded, a few hikers most with dogs on leash. Very peaceful with interesting bridges, streams, and stonework
Well marked and well maintained. More moderate than hard, but pleasant and an enjoyable experience.
Easy hike with nice views. 1/20 trail conditions are perfect packed powder. Great hike for beginners and experts alike.
great day with mostly dry trails. thanks to the folks who reset the rails at the creek crossing intersection of blue, white and red!
yellow and red trail. very well marked. some icy patches but was a nice 5.4 mile hike thru the woods and along the frozen lake and ponds
Nice 4.3 mile hike around the lake. Small rock scrambles and a few creeks to rock hop across. Short up and downs; very doable. Saw 4 bald eagles circling above the trees today. Gun shooting range is often the only noise you hear. Great trail markers. Our first time here and we walked the whole trail without ever getting confused.
Trail is in good shape and well marked. We did the yellow loop part which has nice lake views. Today it was a bit slushy from snow last night but was still an easy hike. Parking now is only by the highway due to winter road closure but not far in to trailhead.
Pretty good easy/moderate trail that I think most beginner hikers would enjoy. The lean-to is always a good half way point to stop and eat lunch before the real uphill begins. To your left on the way down you can see a small slate field thats just off trail. Theres cool caves around there that definitely make homes for bears during hibernation. The slate chairs at the top are great reward. Lots of black flies at the summit in early spring but that’s typical. Interested to be able to see the overlook fire tower, too. Easily one of my favorite hikes and hosts a lot of interesting features.
Great. Nice and easy and beautiful view. Also different terrains which is fun
We found it well marked and scenic, however, it is only 3.1 miles. Not sure where 4.3 came from, we followed the entire trail, only 3.1!
Beautiful hike good ascent follow a large beautiful creek with multiple waterfalls.
You’re walking around a field with little change to scenery. It’s a bit stark at present, with many, many trees down. Perhaps good for a walk with kids or a dog.
Not well marked
