An absolute must do when in the area.

Was going to slay this peak today but the trail is closed right now. No public access from Nov 20 to Dec 20 due to fawning (deer)

Really gorgeous hike - a uphill but still easy. You have to cross a lot of fords on the road to the trailhead, so just be ready for that. we just had a little Toyota Corolla that did fine, but it also hadnt rained recently so the water wasn't too crazy.

Cannot put into words how amazing this hike was. Completed last week of November. Really lucky and had almost no rain and 3 mostly sunny days. Although more incline we started at Routeburn shelter side. Noticed tours and guided hikes go the opposite direction so glad we started where we did. Took 11:30 shuttle from Queenstown to Shelter and were to “The flats” campsite within a couple of hours. Set up camp at the flats and did a late afternoon and evening side hike across the river which was amazing. Referred to as North Branch Track. Highly recommend not missing the “flats area”.

2nd night was spent at Mackenzie Hut area but we camped. Did evening little hike to “cracked rock” which is just a bit further up from the camping area.

3rd day we took the side route up to “key summit” and still had time to make 3:30 shuttle at the divide (note- we move pretty quickly). The summit was worth it but crowded. This area is close to “the divide” where as mentioned before the tourists and single day hikers get dropped.

You can drink the water straight from the river or the lakes. Both camp sites had toilets and eating area with sinks with running water. You have to hike your trash out.

A group of us did the track in a day, finished at the divide car park. Weather was good to us and we had a fantastic day, great track

Tramping till end of this valley! Arrived front of the glacier , awesome ! Just take care, must do it ! Don't stop on board, worth it to go at the end really !

Great views above! You could get amazing sunset or sunrise shot of the weather clears out. We did the hike under the rain the floor was slippery with mud, tons of trees has fallen and block the path so you have to cross them. There is no views until you reach the top just jungle and stairs all along but man it is well worth it once you make it up there I highly recommend

a gift that keeps on giving

Did this hike as the other famous one was closed for lambing. I'm so glad I did as there was some variation to the walk itself and not just plain uphill. I found the first 4km uphill the hardest. Rewarded with stunning panoramic views! Came down at 4pm and only walked past 2 other walkers.

Nice track and a little waterfall

Really easy hike to the actual mine. Decided to trudge on much higher to get better views and boy were they better views.

One of my favorite hikes. I did this back in April and it was great! The huts and path are all well maintained and it was a nice little challenge. Not too difficult but challenging at times due to ice and snow

My first multi-day hike! I wasnt sure which of the great walks to do, I only had time for one and my friend who hiked New Zealand for 3 months highly recommended Routeburn. It was absolutely stunning and a definite highlight of my time in New Zealand. I did it right at the end of the season and really enjoyed it. I was lucky to find spots available in the huts, I booked it a month ahead of time and if I wasn't going alone there wouldn't have been enough free beds.

Hiked this a few years back and it was one of the highlights of our trip so now that I am using All Trails I thought I would review it. It wasn’t highly trafficked but can be a pain to get to if rainy due to muddy roads. We had to help push the car in front of us through a muddy area. The views and hike are worth it. While this is rated easy. It is all relative as to what you are used to. This at times is moderate but easy because the trail is well maintained and easy to walk. Weather also plays a role. Look at the map for the incline. I’ve had much easier trails makes as moderate vs this in IL and TN in the US. Nonetheless if you can walk and are in ok shape you can do this. Again...the views are worth venturing here for a few hr hike.

Great views. The track is a farm/access vehicle track for the majority of the route. Took me just under 2 hours to the summit, pushing hard, and about 90 minutes back down.

epic views steep but good change from I hike back home. absolutely phenomenal panoramic views atop. king of the mountain for the evening as I had the place to myself.

Great views of all the water falls, glacier and sky line

The walk in is pretty average through normal beech forest. The campsite at the end near the river is superb, with magnificent views of the rock faces and waterfalls. Beautiful river too.

The views on this track would hands down be the best I have seen in NZ so far.

Great Walk awesome views pity we didn't have time to do the full loop

This map needs to be updated. This is no longer a loop and it is unsafe to get right up to the cave. Looking towards the cave the right hand part of the “loop” is closed due to earthquake damage. Left hand half is fine. However it is best to turn left towards Summit Road rather than attempt to get to the cave.

A great little trail. Brilliant views from the old gold mining battery up the Rees river. Very worthwhile.

this is not a kid friendly track at the moment, it has obviously had no repairs since the earthquake and the right side of the loop is closed...not that we saw that till we got to the end having nearing broken my ankle several times. I would highly recommend not doing this track after any rain.

Absolutely stunning vistas, we were incredibly lucky with the weather - 3 bluebird days to enjoy incredible scenery. A good challenging hike

This felt like a never-ending up up up. My plan was to take a short, relaxed walk about halfway up. But it was so marvelous, I had to keep going. Made it up and back in 3.5 hrs (jogging most of the way down). However, all I had to carry were my poles and light jacket. Water would have been a plus, but not essential. Only passed 5 people the whole time, all of varying fitness. YOU can do this! So very worth it.

Difficult but insanely worth it.

Great walk. It was covered in snow and the track wasn't easily visible at the top.

Wouldn’t do it after a rainfall, it’s quite dangerous as it is!
It is closed but you can access it.

Naturally hiking anywhere in NZ is above and beyond! Very fortunate that water found on the trail can be consumed otherwise my friend and I wouldn't have had enough (we brought a lot!) since most of the trail isn't that covered, going on a hot day was brutal.
Quite an easy walk though and not that challenging.

Ran this track with dad in 1 day it was awesome :) Gotta love enjoying gods creation and the freshest air every
