The lower falls is an excellent hike if you are looking for a fairly short and easy hike with high reward. Be sure to make your way to the base of the falls!

Totally too easy of a “hike” but very beautiful with the river and falls!

Had a great 5 hour hike. Beautiful views even with the smoke from the fires. Monday wasn’t so crowded. The wildflowers were awesome.

So beautiful! A must see!

We loved the hike and would recommend it to others. But we have a few words of caution. Though very beautiful, the bluffs and scenery were somewhat difficult to see due to so much smoke in the air from fires. Afterwards, I asked about the smoke at the nearby ranger station and the ranger did not know the origin of the fires causing the smoke. On our descent we ran into two families with kids aged about 4 to 10. The kids were struggling, especially through the rocky sections. I would hesitate to take young kids on this trail unless they're used to hiking a lot.

Easy

Beautiful hike! Took about 3-4 hours in and out. Stopped a lot along the way to enjoy the views. Moderate incline going in. Good trail, rocky and rooty at the elevation. This was not a difficult hike but not for novices.

great hike a few steep switchbacks

Beautiful, peaceful, easy hike! Well worth the drive back to the trailhead. My husband and I did this hike at 0900 and were the only ones around. Wear waterproof shoes/sandals as your feet will get wet. They filmed a scene from The Lost World Jurassic Park here if that excites you as well.

Amazing hike but little bit steep with rocky stairs and roots. Surprisingly it was bugs free! Parking was good.

We knew going in that it would/could be a crowded trail, since we were going on a Sunday. My boyfriend and I arrived around 1 and finished the whole thing at 4:30. Not as crowded as expected. Great hiking weather. All around great time.

TLDR... Very worthwhile hike, if early. Bummer crowds. Keep your dog on it's leash for the love of all things decent. Nike running shoes will get you there, but for sure would recommend boots.

We got to the trailhead around 7:15 am and the lot was only about half-full. We were pretty fortunate to not encounter anyone for over a mile and a half - just the sweeping fog and light rain. The hike itself is a relatively gentle climb through some old growth and a couple slightly more tedious sections (think Pennsylvania on the AT) added in for a nice kick. The trail is well maintained. The alpine lake at the top is gorgeous and was well-worth the trip up. We strolled around the lake for awhile before the crowds arrived and decided to head back down around 9:45 am.

Unfortunately once we started heading back down we were smacked with a never-ending (as in, from the lake down until the parking lot) line of people heading up. The crazy foot traffic was harsh, but not nearly as lame as how people treat that place. We encountered about 10-15 deposits of trash that were not on the trail when we ascended a couple hours earlier and lwayyyyy too many groups of tech-bros and bro-ettes that were letting their dogs run off the leash - WE GET IT, you're dog is "chill" but with the amount of traffic (and kids), coupled with how narrow and rocky it can be at times, the entitlement isn't warranted or beneficial.

All-in-all, the hike is incredibly enjoyable and not very taxing and could be rated +4/5 on quality of trail, scenery, and workout alone. However, considering you're bound to come across a bunch of people here, it's worth knowing that... yup, a bunch of them suck.

Love this hike. Came here during the peak of wildflower season & was mesmerized by all the vibrant colors. I’d recommend cutting to Moraine Trail (no crowds & best views) & Panorama Point if you have time.

Boyfriend, me and our dog did this trail June of 2017. Great trail, and our xl dog loved it. The lava rock was amazing! Taking the “off trail” trails to the bottom of the falls is worth it.

Hiked this last week with a girlfriend and kids (ages 9-15). Definitely bring water. Gets rocky but still doable in regular running/athletic shoes. I’m not in great shape (lol) but we all made it up and back okay.

Lake is gorgeous and worth the work to get up there. We did it on a weekday, started about 10:15am - got back to car about 3:15pm. Slow and steady and hung out at lake for a bit and ate our lunches. Several waterfalls along the way. Well maintained trail. Mostly in forest.

This trail is amazing! Doing the entire 8.7 mile long loop took me about 4 hours w/ stopping frequently for photos. The first loops of the trail are heavily trafficked but if you continue past the Winter Falls loop there is only light traffic. There are areas that are slightly steep but not a lot of elevation gain overall. The falls are beautiful!

The beginning of the hike is easier and runs along side a river. You’ll start to hear the waterfall as you hike deeper and start to gain a little elevation. There is a fabulous lookout point with benches to enjoy the view of the waterfall from afar. The hike becomes a slightly harder with lots of change in elevation towards the waterfall. There are no signs on the trail. We ended up at the upper falls spot first and then went back down towards the lower falls lookout afterwards. Gorgeous hike!!

Overall good family friendly hike, it is busy though.

Decent view, nice hike

Very doable, very pretty views of the waterfalls!

Fun way to spend a hot day! Views from upper and lower falls are gorgeous!

Short and to the point, this trail was an easy one and if you take the effort to drive up to the grove, you may as well walk the whole loop. Tons of beautiful trees and not a lot of people, as we went later in the afternoon when visitors were few and the light was perfect. Would highly recommend it if you’re in the area.

Gorgeous/ Moderate hike/ worth it!!

Great view! Beautiful trail.

Amazing hike and well worth the effort! Feels a lot longer than 3.2 miles. I would recommend trekking poles for coming back down the trail due to some of the steps. they helps steady you. trail is in fantastic condition and there were no bugs. parking sucks!

This review is WAY off on mileage. We hiked this today and recorded 2.2 miles to the falls ONE way.
Everyone’s comments are correct this is moderate to hard hike. Lots of stone and wood steps and rocky terrain, plus steep sections that are helped with switchbacks.
We pushed on the extra .75 miles up to the Van Trump part of the park. We had incredible views of Rainier even though it was a little smokey from the current fires. Well worth the extra push.
Parking got full by around 10 so come early. Then opened up again around 2:30. Bring lots of water on hot days.
Not that many mosquitoes, but annoying little black flies that didn’t bite.

My friend, who has just recently gotten into getting back into shape and I hiked this trail today. She is almost 60, and I am in my mid-sixties. We enjoyed many streams, tall trees, views of the South Fork of the Snoqualmie River, and just hanging out together. It is rated easy, and at our age and ability found it very doable but it’s still a workout. We went down to the lookout for the highest waterfall (lots of stairs and not all of them very even heights) and we are glad we did. Enjoyable day, even though it was in the 90’s by the time we were done, since there are virtually no places where the sun is beating down on you.
