This was a great hike. A good workout but not too hard. It feels way out there but really just a few minutes off the freeway. Pay close attention to the trail markers to stay on the 10 mile loop. We got lost the first time we did this and ended up hiking a total of 14 miles because we had taken a wrong turn at some point.

It was a beautiful scenery with lots of greenery & water. The hike was moderate I did it with my dog, puppy,& 2kids. Ok now the negative we picked up a TICK but luckily it didn't attach to anyone yet. So before you go out here put on your deterrent & protect your fur babies!!!!

Pretty nice, very easy. Keep an eye out for the rattlers

love this place, so does my kids and dogs

Amazing views of L.A

First time and it was amazing...

Great hike with a good vibe. Lots of people and lots of dogs. Trail is well marked. Snacks and water were for sale at entrance for reasonable price.

Don’t believe the pictures. If you follow the highlighted trail it DOES NOT take you in front of the Hollywood sign. You get a quick side view. Otherwise, the overlooks are nice and it’s a good workout.

Enjoyed this trail, scenery was beautiful

Great views on hot summer nights. I have plantar fasciitis so it killed my heels but there’s plenty of spots at the top to rest. Best to go around 7 or 8pm

Fun, beautiful hike! We saw many coyotes and rabbits! Very scenic and lots of shade. I would definitely recommend to others who are looking for a long, somewhat challenging at times, hike!

Very hot! Would be best early am hours. However it was a very nice work out.

a nice, easy hike. good for a trail run, for sure and very pretty.

Easy, beginner trail. Family friendly.

when it gets too hot to hike the mtns and desert, go urban hiking lol. this was fun and you get to see some little known places around northern central downtown.

We started at the Sorrento Valley Rd Parking lot, crossed over to the North Trail at the Wagon Wheel Crossing and stayed on the North Trail until the Carson's Crossing when we returned back on the South Trail. The waterfall wasn't much of a waterfall due to lack of rain recently, but the area was still pretty. There is a lot of wildlife to see - all kinds of birds (even saw some hummingbirds in the trees at Carson's Crossing), lizards, butterflies, dragonflies, and scat from a bunch of different animals that reside in the Preserve. There is some shade, but not much so be sure to bring lots of water, a hat, sunscreen, and clothing to shield you from the sun. It is an easy hike with minimal inclines. The trail is a mix of loose sand, packed sand, hard dirt, loose rocks. There are a lot of unmarked trails connecting to the main trails so make sure to bring a map to keep track of where you are. The bathroom at the parking area is a single portable toilet. Signs at the trailhead indicate the area has ticks, but the paths are quite wide in most places and easy to stay on the trail - doesn't hurt to use bug spray just in case. We went midday on a weekday and only saw a few other people (some on bikes and some walking) - however, I can see how this can be a busy trail during peak times.

My favorite hike this far it’s pretty steep and pretty hard but got through it. It’s one of those hikes that you can’t really go back once you’ve started the trail back down where you start is even steeper so you have to push through the extra mile. I can’t wait to do it again now that I know what to expect I was expecting after the 1/2 mile to be another 1/2 mile but it was like an extra 2plus miles but still better then turning around. I hope you wear shoes with traction my shoes had none so it was a lot more difficult getting up those steep mountains and getting down. Your going to need a lot of water FYI.

Long but easy, good for a run

Took a group of senior citizens up to Cross and back. It took 90 minutes. When I go with my fit friends, it takes 30 minutes. Great conditioning hike!

Some very modest hills, but otherwise a flat walk (or run) up Penesquitos Canyon. A small waterfall at the mid point provides some scrambling opportunities as well as a place to cool your feet. A fairly easy hike, but little to no breeze in the canyon, so not a good option on hot days.

great way to spend the day

First time here had a great time. Only went about half way in but I’m really overweight and out of shape and did 5 miles round trip pretty easily. Had a few swimming holes we swam in. Would do it again.

Great hike with an awesome waterfall to play around or near. Fun little "pool" area at the base of the falls to cool down in. Our dog loved it too. If u do bring your dog go early because of the heat....and plenty of water for you and your pooch. Hike back wasn't too bad, the last .5 mile back was probably the hardest. Only saw one snake..

Great city walk. We followed the map and never stepped off concrete. The bridges were fun and gave you something to count and look forward to along the way. It was a full 6 miles plus. Fairly flat for the most part, I’d consider this an easy walk other than the distance.

Super easy and AWESOME 360 view!!! Beautiful sunset too!!! There was lots of people up there but it was suck a pretty view. And although you can get up to the top the long paved path around the mountain you can also climb straight up the side which is a little more steep.

Beautiful, easy hike...the lake and scenery are very lovely. The trail is very close to the hwy for much of the hike which is the only drawback. We actually went last week on a record-breaking heat day and it was still really nice.

It's a good workout but not much of a nature trail. Most of the trail is paved (even for the longest route). Parking is terrible. I got there at 7:45 and had to park half a mile away.
