Great beginner snowshoe trail! Wide, packed trail easy to snowshoe on. 4 stars because once we got to the clearing, we didn’t know where the trail kept on, so we ended up going our own (wrong) way to the right because that hill toward the left in the trees looked brutal. Still gorgeous nonetheless! Steady incline uphill on the way out. Drive to Henderson Mine, veer right down the dirt road (need AWD, 4x4) and the parking lot will be soon after on the left. There’s a Jones Pass Trailhead sign so you know you’re in the right place. Bring layers (gets windy!), water, and snack or whatever you need for altitude (you’re up at 12,000 feet!). 12.11.18.

Excellent trail! We loved it! My first time snowshoeing. The trail was well marked and very scenic.

My fav snow shoe spot close to denver. Always guaranteed to be a winter wonderland. Take the fork to the left for skiing and snow showing. To the right there is snowmobilers. My dog loves this trail!

The hike was beautiful, especially with all the snow! I would recommend parking on Waterboard Rd as the short road to the trailhead itself (0.1 mi) has some pretty deep sections of snow that are very easy to get stuck in. We made it about 2 miles up the trail before there were no more footprints to follow, and we weren't confident in finding the trail on our own under the snow, so we had to turn back. There were some gorgeous views up until that point, but we definitely wish we'd been able to make it all the way to the top. The beginning of the trail has hard packed snow so is pretty easy to hike, but it gets less packed the farther you go, so snow shoes would probably be very helpful. Lots of animals tracks out, which is always fun to see!

Overall an easy hike and definitely beautiful with all of the snow! The trail was mostly snow packed, so easy enough to hike. We brought our shoe spikes, but probably would've been fine without. A couple miles in, the trail does just kind of stop, with no more footprints to follow, so it's shorter than the full 7 miles, but still worth it for a slightly shorter hike.

Beautiful views! I brought my dog to hike and she loved it- we met several other people with dogs too who were all very friendly. I didn’t wish I had snow shoes until the end when I started sinking in waist deep snow and my dog started disappearing completely under the snow- it was moderately challenging but well worth it!

We really enjoyed this hike. We encountered only one other trail user. We used winter hiking boots with crampons. This was sufficient to make it all of the way to the end of the trail. No need for snowshoes or backcountry skis today. It snowed throughout our hike and was windy, especially when nearing the lake at the end. There's a waterfall flowing into the lake which isn't frozen over yet. A thin layer of ice currently coats most of the lake. A standard car with good all season tires can make it to the foot of the trailhead.

Stock Wrangler JLU up and down with ease in 4wd High at the end of summer. Fun trail with great rewards; more to explore in Jeep and on foot. Nonmotorized use allowed year round according to gate’s sign in the AllTrails photos, Sean D, but it also says no parking at the gate.

Question - can you still hike to the lake with the gates officially closed?

closed for the season as of Oct 18, 2018. disappointed. I took my stock Raptor up, zero issues... not even close to breaking a sweat. With a stock half ton truck, you will likely bottom out in a few spots, especially the first rut. Subarus won't make it without damage, end of story. looked promising but the gate was closed about 3/4 mile up. tight turn around.

Super easy trail. A Subaru Outback could run it. Great views of the continental divide. Dispersed camping is a plus. As of November 2018 it's probably covered in a few feet of snow.

Great trail. Trees that folks mentioned earlier have been cleared. Lots of water crossings. Recommend starting the trail on Waterboard Road (128) rather than at Bonfils. Trailhead on 128 is clearly marked and there is parking.

A challenging hike where you are rewarded with beautiful vistas and a lake view at the top. Hiked on a Saturday morning in early October and only saw 2 other people on the entire hike. Amazing fog and snow flurries at the peak. After emerging from the cover of evergreens into open tundra, followed fox, coyote, and mule deer tracks up to the top. A classic Colorado hike and even better on a snowy fall day. Look for Mountain Chickadees, Grey Jays , Red Tailed Hawks, Picas and maybe a few Elk or Mule Deer.

Hiked the whole road, though most people opted to off-road in vehicles. Pretty and scenic; the waterfall at the lake was beautiful. It started snowing while I was there and the fall colors looked beautiful with it.

Went the first day of October - peak color. Really beautiful trail and very flat, so good for small kids or elderly. Surprisingly not too busy for an autumn Sunday with great weather. The further you hike the prettier it gets!

Not sure why this is rated moderate. It's pretty easy for any 4x4. Did pretty much all of it in 2 wheel. Only need a little bit of clearance for the rocks. Great views, and only saw one other person on a Wednesday afternoon. 4/5

Really great hike, awesome views and my pup loved it, really steady incline the whole time. Turned around before I got all the way to the top but still worth it! Super windy though once you get close to the top

We did just the beginning part of the trail due to time constraints, but loved the fall colors! Gorgeous hike.

Loch Lomond is a classic that's easy to get to. The trail is very bumpy but is easy. Once at the top the views are fantastic. Not a lot of Aspens but the bushes turn yellow and it's still very nice to look at haha. If you'd like to see a video of the run I have one up at:

Have fun out there!

We parked at the sign and hiked up instead of off-roading. Beautiful views, and I would love to continue on to the upper lakes next time!

Hiked 9.22.18. Breathtaking panoramic vistas. Had the top of the mountain to myself while I ate lunch. Definitely a blood pumper on the steep switchbacks to get to the ridge line and a thigh burner on the way down. Be mindful of weather. While yesterday was clear and sunny, temps were high 40s or low 50s at top and wind was howling. Great trail for solitude.

It was beautiful, once we got to the top me and my friend decided to climb to the highest point we could. Which was passed the pile of boulders was the height point. Someone left a water proof container and named the peak Mt. Chuck. It had funny notes and quotes.

A mostly easy woodland trail through some private conservancy areas as. Well as public lands. It was just what we were looking for—a hike with not too much altitude or difficulty. Located near a neighborhood, the trail is shared with family groups, walkers, and cyclists.
Map of location needs refining to show trailhead at on intersection of Mulligan Street and Rainbow Road. Complex of trails offers many variations. The part we walked offered only a few great views—mostly trail wound through mixed woodland (spruce, Aspen, and pine—some killed by pine beetle).

Very easy trail, heavy foot traffic. A little bouncy, but good for any 4 wheel drive vehicle. We decided to hike to the upper lakes, and the views did not disappoint. This is a very good family outing!

It’s a great hike - for sure moderate but... def prepare for the winds after the first mile or so - amazing views!

wasn't sure where Jones Pass started so we walked up where the cars were coming. I had my dogs off leash so we ended up taking Butch trail because we didn't know where Jones started and there were too many cars going up and down the road. it's nice and quiet. Please pick up your dog's poop before you ruin it for everyone.
