One of my all time favorites. Absolutely loved it!

Hiked this trail in mid-July. It was hot but the falls were beautiful and I loved the challenge.

I prefer snowshoeing this trail in the winter. Saw a mouse...whom I guess frequents this area often.

Great hike, been a couple of times and will probably return.

Great hike different terrain makes it fun!!

Here's the deal: the lake is actually about 8-9 miles in. The upper reaches of this trail are beautiful, but it's not a half day hike! The final ascent to the lake requires hiking through quite a bit of brushy trail, and overall, you're gaining around 2500 feet. The Montana CCC was there today, cutting deadfall. Much appreciated!

Beautiful views. Great hike for the whole family!

Great trail for hike to lake in the mountains.. lunch and back

Really a beautiful hike. If you go out and back, you can probably do it in about 7 hours. But it’s tough the mile or so before the lake. Going downhill sucked after leaving the lake. Which is clean AF btw. Overall beautiful but may start hating life the last hour. I don’t hike that long very much!

Fun hike. Did in 2 hours 40 mins. We kept a good pace. Now back to Hamilton for a beer.

Worth the steep part between miles 3.5 and 4.5. Glad I wore good over the ankle hiking boots.

Easy, gorgeous hike! Did the entire loop last year. Currently camped at Three Frogs by the start of the trail. Going again Saturday morning.

Awesome hike with beautiful views and impressive rock faces. There is a rock arch that can be spotted from the bridge about 3.5 miles out. We were a group of 6 including my 5.5 yr old and everyone enjoyed it. The last mile or so before the falls was beside a marshland and mosquitoes were thick; so definitely wear repellent.

This is a fantastic trail that I will definitely return to. I agree with the reviews that this is a great family hike, but want to add one little disclaimer. I was a little nervous in a few parts with my recently-turned 5 year old son, and I was glad my wife and I had our two year old strapped to our back. The drop-off is steep in a few parts, and you could tumble for a long ways. Like I said, fantastic trail — but wanted to give a warning to those with really little hikers.

Gorgeous trail and very easy. Beautiful to do almost anytime of the year. I went there in June and there was still some snow on the back end of the trail but overall very pleasant hike

Beautiful hike, I was expecting a huge waterfall but supposedly as I was told after hiking this trail you have to off trail it to get to the falls over a rocky area. I have yet to go back and try this.

Amazing waterfall! The hike is fairly easy and the wildflowers are beautiful up near the falls!

The hike was beautiful - I started not too long after sunrise and was treated to four sunrises as the sun followed me back into the mountains. However, I would be interested to see a recording of somebody who hiked to the lake, and wish that were listed as an entirely separate trail. This 5.5 mile trail does *not* feature a lake. Disappointed by the misleading reviews, photos, and general info provided about this one.

well all trails lied I walked 9 miles to find a lake almost got stuck in the middle of the forest all night great pics 7.1 miles in trail gets sketchy you wonder if your on a trail 2 river crossings a lot of trees are down over the trail

Beautifully maintained hike with lots of variation in forest type. Bit of a stretch for the six year old, but we made it!

Although the beginning of the hike is just another "up the canyon" hike, the real fun (and work!) starts about 3.5 miles in where you suddenly start a quite steep, exhilerating ascent (about 1,500 ft within about a mile), followed by a slight descent down to the drop-dead-gorgeous Canyon Lake. Although you hear Canyon Creek for most of the way, you don't actually get to see it, except at 0.5, 1, 2,, 3.5, and (at the lake) 5 miles in. Most of way is actually in shade. The trail seems to have been rerouted since the recording of the website track, since there are periodic deviations from this track, which may account for the fact that the round trip is closer to 10 miles than the 8.4 miles mentioned in the description.

Like so many Bitterroot Canyons, this is a beautiful hike to the falls, and it always feels like we cut it short by turning around!!! Keep going!

Great trail lots of beautiful sights. Wish it was closer to the creek

Well-maintained trail. Only a bit of water on the trail in some spots. The lake is beautiful! We took the spur to Kidney Lake, which requires a semi-difficult river crossing and a steeper incline. But worth it.

Great hike for the dog because water crosses the trail every couple of miles. The trail sign said 5 miles to falls and I'm inclined to believe it. Had to choose workout over enjoying the views because of the rocky nature of the trail and time constraints. Can't believe I've put this trail off. Much longer and challenging than the overlook trail, but much more enjoyable and satisfying.

Beautiful hike and nice trail. Does get a little rocky so you’ll need to watch your step. Breathe taking views.

Great trail with a huge payoff. A little route-finding and overgrown in places, but not bad. Canyon Lake is gorgeous! And perfect for a brisk dip. Recommend.

Good trail to build the legs. All up hill beautiful falls at the top. I’m just a beginner.

Very nice trail. It’s my own fault that I went too far (turned around about 8 miles in), particularly since the temperature was in the mid-90s. Up until about 3 miles past the falls it was quite nice. After that the trail starts climbing considerably more steeply without any good views. All the berries along the trail were much appreciated!

Hiked it with my 16 year old son, nice little hike
