This was nice hike that I enjoyed. Good amount of hills which I liked. Went during the weekday and not that many people on the trail. Also the trail is well marked so you shouldn’t have a problem following it. Go out and enjoy this trail.

Really good trail! Make sure to walk it against clockwise! Decent into a canyon is a bit difficult and slippery but it is much worse as an accent. Make sure to have good hiking shoes or, like my 12 years old dachshund, bring a friend to cary you down!)) Views are great! Trail is extremely well marked. Outside of 3 places it is more of the easy/moderate easy but those 3 places are difficult.
To bad it is 4 hours away from my house but if I’ll be in the area I’ll make sure to repeat it!

Beautiful trail!! It is hard to figure out how to get down to the waterfall. Go LEFT when you are on top of the waterfall. There are rocks that you climb down right after the wooden bridge. There is another spot of rocks to climb down right before the open field that will allow a longer hike. The waterfall was one of the best I’ve seen in Illinois thus far.

This is a really nice loop trail about 3.5 miles in all. The start either way is 'paved' with asphalt and then changes over to dirt/rocks. Very nice overlooks and well maintained.

Fall is a great time to come and see this awesome place! The different color trees make it more beautiful. Lots of places for photos. It is a easy trail I have been here 3 times and it always has a lot of people. If you bring children ... don’t let them out of your sight.

Nice easy hike. Does take you to a awesome overlook. Has a small cave , big rock formations. You need to follow the blue blazes and sometimes it’s hard to know which way to go. Use your AllTrails recorder to help you stay on the right path. Saw a couple putting up their tent to camp which would be fun!

Pretty

Always a great view and fun climbing

definitely should be rated hard. most inexperienced mountain bikers will have issues. helmet and proper bike a must.

We went after a rain and it was absolutely beautiful, it did make for slippery hiking conditions and it was a difficult hike through the falls. Definitely need good shoes.

Great trail, may be difficult for small children or the disabled

Such a great trail! Clearly marked and it makes a 3 mile loop. I try to do this trail at least once a year.

Loved it. Hard for us seniors but worthwhile

Hiking 10/19/18 - Beautiful area! The trail was marked great in most places but missing several important places so that we were wandering around looking for a direction- losing time and adding 3 miles to the hike. Finished in 9 hours with moderate speed, stopped once for lunch for around 45 minutes. The alltrails app was a life saver! No ticks, very few bugs/spiders as mentioned in other posts.

I was nervous about this because I hike with my two labs and some reviews were mixed. First of all, the drive down there is NOT bad. If you go slow, there is no reason why any car wouldn’t be able to make it down there. The hike itself is very nice. There is one spot that is a climb down (and back up). My dogs were hesitant and scared but finally went down. I would think an agile dog would probably hop right down. The waterfall was just a trickle but still very pretty. The trail gets confusing once you’re in the canyon but I’m pretty sure it all takes you to the same place. Giving it 4 stars because there are tons of boulders and tree roots to watch for. I wish I could have looked up a little more than down at my feet .

Would love to do this trail from start to finish or possibly in two sections. Would anyone be interesting informing a group and going?

Amazing views!

Awesome trail. Great views and very challenging. First portion of trail is pretty easy. Once you climb down into the canyon, the hike becomes difficult. You need to ascend and descend through the wet and rocky streams. Portions are slippery. As long as you are careful, you can handle the trail. You probably will get a little wet and muddy. The trail offers great scenery with rock walls, rivers and forest. The trail also provides a jaw dropping view overlooking the canyon. The 3 mile trail provides a challenging hike with a great sense of satisfaction when finished. A must hike, if around the Shawnee national forest.

My favorite place in Shawnee national forest. Fantastic views with unlimited photo opportunities. A nice short loop, but plan on budgeting a few hours for rock climbing. Very dangerous in places. Common sense must be used. Very peaceful.

Awesome trail! Great mix on clear path and then forging up and done a trickling streams rock bottom. Rock had steps carved in to it to help with footing but the hike was still challenging. It was a GREAT hike!!

excellent place for families

Trails are horribly marked.. we spent hours going in circles trying to figure out which way to go..

We took our kids hiking here and Big Rock Trail was perfect (4yo and 7yo). Easy and fun hike!

Very nice scenic area. Destination hike, Do Indian Point trail which is just down the road.

awesome trail, could use better markings.

Bug spray is a must! South side climb is deceptive, you think you're almost back to the trailhead but you've still half the trail to go. North side climb is much more straight forward, a single slope.

If you're coming from the north, Google will tell you to take 149 and Town Creek Rd to Hickory Ridge Rd, but it's far easier to take 127 to Etherton Rd to Poplar Ridge Rd.

This is a nice hike. There are many paths you can choose from. I enjoyed the quiet of this trail.

one of the most horribly blazed trail I have ever been on, blazing is good through the first half right up to about 300yds from the road then you have to walk out of the woods and find the horse R2R trail to take you back up, no blazes, then at the top of the BIG hill where the trail splits, do not follow the the red/white trail blaze it will walk you 3/4 of a mile out of your way to a horse trail, instead stay on the R2R trail at the split and you should be fine. I ended up walking 9 miles to a 6 mile campsite. I was there 9/29 and little water on late trail get your water early.

Short and easy trail if you want it to be. Breathtaking views. People do die here every year from falls, but as long as you aren't leaping like a wild man from rock to rock over obviously deep chasms (you'll see people doing it), you'll be fine.
