Great trail. You can do it even if you’re from out of town if you’ve given yourself some time to adjust because it is at high elevation. There is some gain but it’s manageable because of the switchbacks. You get the beautiful views you’d get from climbing a 14er without the extreme effort. It’s cold at the top, refreshingly so, in July.

A beautiful hike and achievable for our whole group, from 12 to 50+. Mountain lake with a short walk further to glacier/snow pack. Worth the drive and hike.

Beautiful hike! It's a steady incline almost all the way, so it's definitely a bit of a challenge, but nothing too steep. would recommend this hike to anyone!

Super easy trail if you’re used to the elevation. Awesome views up top. Good hike for visitors to the area. Only about a 50 min drive from downtown Denver.

One of my favorite hikes close to Denver. Great views and the Lomond is beautiful.

Wow...awesome sights! Very popular trail, so go early.

This Fire Lookout is now a private campsite rentable through the US Forest Service. The people in the lookout tower are not FS employees. They are paying guests. It's the paid campers whose cars are parked at the gate. We should all try to respect the privacy of these campsites so that the guests can get the most out of the experience and if the guests enjoy it, it will be a profitable venture for the Forest Service that has just taken a hefty budget cut. Let's try to be respectful by not expecting to tour a camper's private space. If we want to tour the tower, we should rent it, and in doing so, we will help to preserve this really cool history. Thanks!

Great with kids!

It won't knock your socks off but pretty nonetheless!

Great short hike with fantastic views.

Lovely hike through the woods. We got to the trailhead at 8:30am (on a Monday), and there was only one other car in the parking lot. We only saw 8 other people on the trail the whole hike. The incline out is not overly steep, but is steady (there are only a few short plateaus the whole hike out). The elevation makes it a challenge. (The hike starts at 9,307' with a 1,987 gain to 11,564 at the peak.) There's a gorgeous and huge aspen grove the first mile or so. No mountain views -- the walk is in the forest the whole time -- but it was very shady and that lush woods is its own beauty. (No flowers -- might be too shady.) It wasn't buggy when we left, but there were a good amount of mosquitoes at the lower elevation by the time we left. We hiked for about 4 hours.

Great hike and beautiful views

Beautiful trail, good views, wildflowers and enjoyable.

ATTENTION DOG OWNERS: for the safety of your animals... if your dog is off leash and you run into a dog on a leash, please grab your dogs or call them over. If another dog is on a leash; they tend to feel restrained and threatened when another animal is approaching them and can become anxious or aggressive. There are plenty of beautiful spots there to take your pups off leash so they can run around, please be cognizant of surroundings.

Super fun wheeling. Some tough spots overall great trail for our 1993 Landcruiser . Kids played at Lake and on streams. Half way up we photographed a great stream with wildflowers. will be back on a clear day for sure had some cloud cover.

Went while it was 57 degrees and rainy and I would do it again. The view through the fog was spectacular and the wildflowers were gorgeous. Will definitely go again, maybe when the suns out.

Great hike

Love, love the view!!!! Its a steep climb up with lots of people on the trail which was nice since there are three times you could go right or left with no sign. We also learned there was a waterfall which was flowing compared to others in the area. The lake is beautiful and cold but that didn’t stop people from jumping in. I hiked this trail with my 7 & 10 year old and we spent about 2-3hrs enjoying the view, lunch and dipping our toes in the water

Not easy the first 1/2 mile! Definitely worth the effort. Get there early! Bring cash for parking. Main lot is $5. Other lots are $10.

It was a great hike steep at first still wild flowers along the trail saw bunnies humming birds and chip minis only 8.5 miles tracked just over 1800 feet of elevation!

Beautiful area, the three lakes are amazing, definitely a good spot to keep in the rotation.

Great trail. Incredible views. Worth the hike.

What a beautiful area. Especially great hike for folks coming from lower elevations. Unfortunately, tons of trash along trail and by the glacier. Please, please, please, pick up your trash!! My daughter's boyfriend found a plastic garbage bag left on the glacier and we picked up as much trash as we could going back to the car. Another bummer was that several drones were noisily flying around the lake. I know they can be fun and take great pics, but most folks would rather you leave them at home please!

I’ve stayed in a cabin that I adore up at St. Mary’s Glacier. I’ve hiked the trail to the glacier many times. The trail is short, fairly rocky, and the way to the glacier is all uphill. However, it’s definitely worth the hike. Plus, your hike back is all downhill! The lake is beautiful, and the water is crystal clear. There’s also a hidden waterfall tucked away just to the side of the trail! I just wish it was a little less busy. It seems best to go early in the morning or just before sunset if you go during peak season if you want some privacy. The winter is harsh, but also gorgeous and you can definitely enjoy the sounds of nature!

Beautiful hike. Very rocky but the views were stellar

Stunning views!!! Made it all the way in a Subaru Crosstrek but next time will bring a truck. The last 0.3 was especially rough. Tried our hand at fishing but had no luck...one bite all day. We saw a lot of small trout however nothing big enough you’d want to keep. Lots of rocks make it easy to snag your line. Wonderful scenery, mountain sounds and a nice walk around the lake. The wild flowers were poppin.

My daughters and I hiked this trail and it was breath taking! The way up can be a bit of a challenge if you aren’t used to the elevation but back down only took us 20 minutes. I can’t recommend this trail highly enough! You’ll love it!

I might not have described this as easy. Lots of rocks and up hill.
Don't stick the parking notice to windshield, just lay it there. The glue gets baked on the glass and is a bit of a mess.
Awesome views and is very scenic. Certainly worth the effort.

Breathtaking! Totally worth the hike!

Beautiful day for this hike. Busy trail but that is good since there are no trail markers once you lead the trail head. Difficult walking with all the rocks but worth the trouble once you reach the glacier basin. Views are wonderful!
