Trailways nice and there was no other people. Still quite muddy and icy out there, I recommend proper gear (like spikes). I ended a little early and did not go to the summit as it was too icy and I didn’t have my gear with me. Took about an hour and a half to do the loop without the summit, will do again when ice melts.
Beautiful trail.. deep snow, 18 - 24 inches! one short of the lake then lost the trail and had to turn back! great workout! Can't wait to try again!
Bit of snow and ice, just bring your microspikes
Snow covered the whole trail. Beautiful views along the way.
This is my favorite local trail! It’s a nicely maintained trail surrounded by trees and other greenery — not a lot of big views, but it’s a great place to get some fresh air.
Nice hike with decent mileage and elevation gains for something outside of Mt Spokane State Park and Mica Peak. The summit doesn't have any 360 degree views because of the trees, but it's easy to walk around to see different things. I'm looking forward to returning in the spring when Leland Pond isn't frozen over. Note: There were a few blowdowns and the trail was covered with a lot of compact snow and ice. It's probably not going to get better as more snow moves in, so I recommend gearing up appropriately.
A little rough today because it was hard packed snow and we were snow showing uphill,
I loved the hike. It was pretty cloudy at the summit but there was a pretty neat little frozen pond and some streams coming down from the melting snow.
Great snowshoe adventure, unfortunately we couldn’t make it to the lake because the snow was too deep and trail was not trafficked. Had to make our own trail, but ended up turning around.
We snowshoed this trail today. It took us about 4 1/2 hours. We could not park in the normal parking lot because of the snow. So there’s an extra 0.8 mile hike in and then again back out. The snow in the first third is a little bit wetter but not slushy. As you ascend up the mountain the snow becomes a dryer and much better. It was a lot of fun! Some steep climbing was required which was a lot of effort but a lot of fun as well. Views were amazing. Company was superb.
Beautiful hike. About 3 inches of snow on the ground. Recommend crampons as there is a lot of ice hiding under the snow. With proper gear it is really enjoyable. Only saw 1 other person out there.
I hiked this on Thanksgiving day. Could only see partial views due to cloud cover. 16 logs across the trail. I didn't have snowshoes with me, which was a mistake. 8-16" of snow on the trail the whole way, and 16-20" off the trail. The trail was heavily used by animals (wolves moose, deer, rabbits, etc) but I didn't see any.
Forest service road closed 12/20/20
Pleasant early winter hike, mostly a snow covered road but good exercise, fresh air and no mask! A variety of animal tracks (elk, deer, turkey, maybe bobcat...XC-skis).
Lots of fun
perfect weather, good hike. not much for scenery at the top but still fun. saw cougar tracks.
We've done this hike a couple times before and it is so worth it but yesterday we had to turn around about a mile before the first lake as we lost the trail and came across waist deep snow with a snow storm coming in. Best times to use would be before November as it got to be too dangerous to continue forward.
