Great trail!!! it kicked my butt for my first hike of the season... wind was intense but was perfect for the warmer day... and later start 77° . super steep, a little slippery on the way down loose gravel and sand. stunning views!!!

Absolutely stunning! Definitely harder than I anticipated. The view was 100% worth the hard work.

Wonderful hike! Steep, but great little workout. Needs a new memo pad, if you happen to be coming up!

Hiking

Steep, but well worth the views. Had a Bald eagle flying within 75-100 feet of us. Just amazing day. You won’t need LEG day after this little hike.

HikingBugsGreat!

Completed the hike yesterday, April 2. It was sunny and mid 70’s. Went on Friday so only saw a handful of hikers. This trail has several camel backs which are extremely steep going up and coming down. Reached the summit in 2 hours. Gorgeous!!! Saw a hang glider up there! Make sure to sign the book up there. I prob would not do this hike in the heat of summer. Intense. Worth it. Use your poles for goodness sakes!!

HikingGreat!No shade

This was a fun hike, but potentially harder than expected. Elevation was actually closer to 2500 ft total. Also, a lot of the climb is really sandy, so coming back down is tricky. Even if you don’t normally use poles, I’d bring some just in case because a fall would hurt.

HikingGreat!No shade

Highly recommend an early start for this to avoid the crowds, make sure to bring a windbreaker. It's pretty loose and sandy coming down some of the steep grades, saw some people in tennis shoes and I can't imagine they had a good time on the way down. Bring some shoes with ankle support or some trekking poles.

Saw two deer along the way back. Great early season hike, wouldn’t be much fun during the heat.

HikingGreat!

Great trail- it was a bit windy today but the sun was out! No shade and steep uphill hills- I would say about 5 of them. I’m glad I wore my running shoes for this because my hiking boots would’ve dug into my ankle.

Great challenging hike. Don’t be fooled by the distance and bring plenty of water. Hiking sticks were a must for me to save my knees on the way down.

Hiking

Was a great trail, but if you are planning on an easy hike think again. Got the calves burning, and a good sweat running. No shade either so plan accordingly. Overall it’s a solid workout, and I’ll be back again! For those wondering the trail was 99% dry, snow only in patches.

HikingGreat!

3/26/21 - An appropriate name as Mule deer greeted us early. Nice way to stretch the legs after a day in an airplane. We hit the ground running with this trail and it was lovely. Panoramic views from the jump. Steep enough to be challenging, but nothing technical. There’s still snowy remnants on most of the north faces - nothing required extra traction. Spring birds (yellow breasted chat) were warbling and the sun was warm and friendly. 4.5 GPS’d miles and a bit over 2k feet gained.

First hike of the Boise Grand Slam. Thanks to Meet Up had a great crew to do it with. It’s a seesaw hike. Not so easy on the ups. Hard on the downs on return. Liked it.

really nice hike. Definitely a workout. Might suggest doing it with poles but doable without. Not much tree cover and a very minor amount of snow
