Great hike yesterday even though the weather was rainy and very windy. The log to cross the main river had been pulled to the other side so I hiked up the left side of the river. Lots of loose rocks and very slippy in areas where it was muddy.
The views walking up and from the top are fantastic. I came back along the top and dropped down to the valley following the Parking signs.
I’d say this hike is moderate, definitely worth it - amazing views!

Short hike to waterfall. Really pretty. Very crowded with tourists

Loved this hike! We did this 4 days ago and the river crossing was sketchy - log has been pulled out and the brave souls that crossed (in the cccold weather and water) either stripped off their shoes and hiking pants (water was high) or decided to do the hike wet. We stayed on the other side and still thought it was incredible and worth it! They may be nicer waterfalls in Iceland but many are packed full of tourists!

It is hard to tell where to go once the path narrows about 1/3 of the way in. We walked around the houses on the road(following hand written signs) up to the falls but then walked along the river all the way back to the car. It is worth the hike . Plan on walking through quite a lot of mud.

Beautiful waterfall. Slippery walking. Three women slipped just walking to get to the waterfall. Wear decent shoes.

Cool area. Very busy and hard to find parking.

Lovely coastal hike

Hengifoss is a steep but easy path up a gorgeous volcanic area with a beautiful and powerful waterfall at the end and another only slightly less powerful falls half way up. Well worth doing!

This is a nice trail that walks through cooled lava rocks covered with moss with the ocean by your side! At Hellnar there is a nice cafe where you can grab a drink or bite to eat before heading back.

In my opinion this is one of the most beautiful falls in Iceland of the ones I saw. The hike has a incline on the way there and a decline on the way back. Recommend!

This was by far the best hike I have ever been on. I would categorize this to be a more challenging hike. I would not recommend to bring young children on this hike, because it has parts that can be very steep and there are not many railings to hold on to. The views are unreal of the waterfall and the surrounding landscape. At some points of the hike, you use ropes to climb up or hike down. You do cross a small river in the beginning that has a rope and log to help you cross. At the very top of the falls, you cross a larger river. I would recommend bringing water shoes to make that river crossing not as challenging and even a small towel to dry off your feet. Hiking boots are definitely recommended as well as layers. We hiked up the right side of the falls and hiked down the left side and it was great.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED HIKE. This trail was worth every minute!

Was worth the hike! Amazing view of the waterfall at the top.

Tourist overlook of a big waterfall and gorgeous canyon. Short walk, lots of crowds, long drive, but free.

A bit confusing of a meandering cliff trail. I would not recommend this for children on windy days. I was having some difficulty with the high winds. The waterfall is so beautiful, and so much more so because there’s hardly any people on this trail. You get to enjoy a natural wonder without the crowds and just a few people to help guide you!

Easy to get to and beautiful waterfall.

The hike itself has some very nice views. We went the day after it snowed in early October. It was a bit cold and rainy. No one warned us until we walked through the rain for 2 miles... but the river was cold and no one was in it! We have no idea why... maybe that’s what happens after it snows. Keep this in mind if you try to go during the winter.

Definitely do this! Such a fun hike. We went at the end of September on a gorgeous day. Unfortunately by this time the log that allows you to make the first river crossing was removed, which means everyone went up and down the left side of the loop. we didn’t have to do either river crossing which was actually kind of nice since the right side was closed. Keep this in mind if you hike in the winter. Still... a very fun, moderately challenging hike.

Recommend doing the loop with Austerbrekkur on the way up to see the glacier, then to the waterfall. Or if you need and easier hike do the A. Trail on the way down. But it’s a great view on the whole way up to look at the glacier!

Easy hike. Follow the river along past the private sign. There is one fall you will get to, keep going to the larger falls. Absolutely stunning and BRIGHT BLUE. There are two trails in parallel along the river one closest to river is wetter. The are both close together! Pick the more bushy one or the more wet one. Amazing scenery of the mountains! Do this walk!

Busy but you can't help but be impressed. Don't just stick to the bottom: climb the steps to the top and continue going up the path to see more falls and terrific views. There were about 100 people at the bottom and along the top path we came across maybe a dozen people.

One of my favourite hikes in Iceland. Agree with others that it is more medium than easy but definitely worth the climb to be treated to a dip in the natural springs.

Must go

favorite day hike from my Iceland trip. the loop is super fun and the waterfall/views are outstanding.

The walk in was a bit steeper than the ‘easy’ implied- but good. The path is well maintained. We headed out around 10:30 am and it took us about an hour to walk to the river. Uphill most of the way. The river was lovely. Nice charging areas and plenty of places to sit. Some had suggested that the further upstream the hotter the water. Overall a beautiful hike and afternoon!

Beautiful falls and easy walk

A simple walk around the geysers. Enjoyable but crowded - you'll struggle to get a photo without either dozens of people or tour buses in.

Criminally overlooked! This is an easy hike on a quiet stretch - perfect for getting away from the crowds. It takes in great views of the lava rock formations and allows you to get right up close to them all the while taking in views of the lake

lovely easy hike with beautiful views. definitely recommend this one.

Lovely walk along the coast with beautiful views. When we did it the car park was basically empty at Arnarstapi (where we parked) but very busy at Hellnar
