Pretty walk - great for morning strolls or jogs!

It took about 2h30m getting to the lake and 1h30m going down for my team. It was so windy at the lake while we got there (about 2pm).

Too many insects/bugs during hike.

I climbed the rocks but there is a path behind it as well. Beyond belief beautiful.

this hike from trail head to lake only about 3 miles one way. easy and pretty.

The hike isn't that long and is very easy and the views are absolutely breathtaking!! Definitely the most beautiful and crystal clear lake close to Banff!! My oldest son even drank water from the lake.

Counterclockwise loop. Caution crossing stream, logs were frosted over and slippery. Elevation gain in a short amount of time but amazing views and simply a beautiful hike, even with the huffing and puffing. Would not want to do ascent with fresh snow fall. Descent clear of snow, nice and sunny. Ignore last 2km. Forgot to stop my app.

This is a great area in Calgary. Lots of trail ribboning and it’s easy to lose your way if unfamiliar with the terrain. If you’re walking your dogs off-leash be careful of coyotes and deer. One will attack your pup and the other will make your dog chase it until it’s lost. Both scenarios have happened to me. My 2 Samoyeds were attacked by 4 coyotes- unsuccessfully. And I lost another for 4 hours when he bolted after a deer in the off leash area. This despite excellent training and recall. You never can tell. In any event we still love this area but remain vigilant when walking our “boys”.
Views are spectacular on clear days. No two visits are the same. Do yourself a favour and check it out. Don’t be a trail-pig. Pack out what you take in and pick up after your pet.

Great reward for the effort required. The final stretch is challenging for beginners, but doable. Hiking poles are a must, and microspikes are beneficial. Beautiful views!
(There is Y junction in the road about a km past the bridge and the correct trail is to the right up the mountain- it is marked by a cairn).

Beautiful trail. I got there at 10:30am and there were lot of parking spots. It took 2 hour uphill and 1hr 15min down hill. I will be back in the summer, Great Lake and picnic area.

Very windy at the top !!

Great walk if you find yourself downtown Calgary and need a short break from the urban scene.

Nice trails but if you are visiting and don’t know the area, have the map ready.

Loved the walk. Very easy, it was October when we did the hike. I’d love to do it in the summer when it’s warm enough to swim! The water looked amazing

Ok hike. Not the best views considering the miles. Would also be prettier in the summer.
Might try again next year.

Beautiful fall day! Microspikes would’ve been nice in a few spots. Most places dry and snow free! What a beautiful panoramic view at the top. Will be doing this one again!

Great walk but do not try and follow this trail as it’s difficult to follow. Just use points of reference for reference, the mountains, and the airport and you’ll have a great hike.

This hike is accurately rated as moderate. It’s well marked/traveled but is all up to the late and all down back out. I spent most of the summer kayaking and haven’t lived in this area very long so I am not used to this much elevation gain. It took me about 4 hours to get up and 2 1/2 hours down. We met 2 groups that turned around and didn’t make it up because they were going to run out of time (not because they didn’t think they could ultimately do it) I think people commenting it took them 2 hours to get up are in great shape. So if you’re like me and in OK overall shape but maybe not hiking shape please know this is absolutely doable but leave time. We packed a lunch, spent about 90 minutes around the lake and then made our way back down. It was a beautiful sunny day.

Wonderful hike. I can't add too much to what the other (completely accurate) reviewers wrote below, other than to say a few tips: (1) At the parking lot, the "Nature Trail" and the Annette Lake Trailhead are right next to each other. Stay to the right if you want to go up to Annette Lake -- I ended up doing an optional loop on the well-cared-for and quite photogenic Nature Trail. (2) There's a road that you cross about 1/3rd of the way up the hill. The Lake Annette Trail is well marked; to stay on it, just jog to the right and left. (3) Most reviewers are saying that the trail flattens out toward the top -- that's true, but it never really gets truly flat. Quite a lot of rocks are up there. (4) There are many logs well-located up at the top for a nice sandwich/picnic spot.

Also, at this writing, ONLY hiking is allowed on this trail.

There are several reviewers who say this is an "easy" hike -- I think it's accurately classified as moderate. The climb up to the crest is 1-2 hours, and for beginning hikers, those with young children or elderly, they might find it rougher than an "Easy" hike on the ankles and knees. It's a decent amount of elevation gain.

I took a LOT of photos so my time was about 2 hours up and 1.5 hours down. Best photo time to arrive at the lake IMO is much earlier than I did -- I'd try to catch it around 10am if you can, on a sunny or partly sunny day.

A friend and I did this trail today. October 14. For future reference it is a difficult hike at this time due to show accumulation. We were the only ones to do it today. We ended up missing the rock cairn for the creek crossing as it was buried under snow. So a 14km hike turned into a 23km hike. The falls look amazing with ice on them. Just be sure to bring extra socks and perhaps snowshoes. As for the crossing of the river at the beginning? ... it was dang cold.

This hike was perfect for mid-October! Moderate and clean-kept trails. The differences in terrain throughout the four miles keeps the hike interesting and the view of the lake at the end is well worth it. We went in the morning and it took about 1 hr and 45 mins to arrive at the lake. Around 11:30am, the sun right over the lake and it was beautiful. Next time I’d prefer to go in the afternoon while the sun is opposite of the gorgeous view.

nice little walk.

Favourite lake in Banff!! ❤️

If there is one must do hike in the Canadian Rockies .. must be this one for the view .. easy, short, breathtaking view!!

One of the best parks in the city. Hiking, biking, jogging, x-country skiing, snow shoeing is all possible at times. Notice the contrast and see the prairies as they were before tree planting and city developments. When reaching the higher elevations, fantastic views of downtown and the Rockies are rewards for the well worth efford. Closer to the ground, colourful flowers and shrubs offer up scents that draws one in, to a more intimate experience.
On a warm, late summer day, lay in the tall grass and listen to the wind play a synphony over it, that will occupy a space in your most favorite sound collection. Insects and birds will add their solo virtuosities and make the sky even bluer than it already is.
However, on colder days, the wind won't be as gentle and caressing. It's sound turns into a heavy metal concert and you better be equipped for it. Whether jogging at -30C, biking at +30C or just being there, alive, I've never regretted a second of it.
For those who say they couldn't get maps to work on their app, I say, you missed the moment and haven't yet learned to take a deeeep breath. Try it again, without distracting technology.
