Wonderful hike. I can't add too much to what the other (completely accurate) reviewers wrote below, other than to say a few tips: (1) At the parking lot, the "Nature Trail" and the Annette Lake Trailhead are right next to each other. Stay to the right if you want to go up to Annette Lake -- I ended up doing an optional loop on the well-cared-for and quite photogenic Nature Trail. (2) There's a road that you cross about 1/3rd of the way up the hill. The Lake Annette Trail is well marked; to stay on it, just jog to the right and left. (3) Most reviewers are saying that the trail flattens out toward the top -- that's true, but it never really gets truly flat. Quite a lot of rocks are up there. (4) There are many logs well-located up at the top for a nice sandwich/picnic spot.

Also, at this writing, ONLY hiking is allowed on this trail.

There are several reviewers who say this is an "easy" hike -- I think it's accurately classified as moderate. The climb up to the crest is 1-2 hours, and for beginning hikers, those with young children or elderly, they might find it rougher than an "Easy" hike on the ankles and knees. It's a decent amount of elevation gain.

I took a LOT of photos so my time was about 2 hours up and 1.5 hours down. Best photo time to arrive at the lake IMO is much earlier than I did -- I'd try to catch it around 10am if you can, on a sunny or partly sunny day.

Completed this trail twice. Its fun with great view towards the end. Short but fun.

Went for an impromptu hike in November 2017. Very nice little hike. It's a very popular trail so it's generally very crowded.

Found a drone controller on Poo Poo point trail (the flat area where you can see Mt Rainier). Please reply or DM me if this is yours with a description of the controller. Trying to make sure it finds its owner.

Nice Sunday Hike!
Lots of people of friendly people!

Nice views overall. Scores high on access from the city; easy access also meant there were tons of people.

This hike was perfect for mid-October! Moderate and clean-kept trails. The differences in terrain throughout the four miles keeps the hike interesting and the view of the lake at the end is well worth it. We went in the morning and it took about 1 hr and 45 mins to arrive at the lake. Around 11:30am, the sun right over the lake and it was beautiful. Next time I’d prefer to go in the afternoon while the sun is opposite of the gorgeous view.

Compared to most hikes, this one is a bit boring and gets incredibly busy. Too busy. It’s like visiting an outdoor mall at Christmas. The view is nice, but there are better hikes with more to see and less people.

love ..easy hike loved the views

Great trail, Very crowded on weekends though.

Great starter trail. The view is epic. Love starts here.

Beautiful drive. Fun hike and pretty views!

Overall great hike. Was able to get to Rachel Lake yesterday (10/7) but not all the way to Rampart. Around 4500' we started to encounter some snow patches. Snow on the trail was compacted down to around an inch for a couple of the last switch backs. Extremely difficult to pass without poles because it is VERY slippery. We were able to do it without poles, but only very slowly and almost face planted several times.

If going on a weekend, be sure to get there early, as the parking lot fills quickly.

Hiked here on a Saturday, 10/06/2018. Got to the trailhead around 830am, and only 4 cars were there. The trail had snow about 5 inches high. I didn’t have my spikes but wish I had them. After the first half a mile the trail is all snow until the Lake.

You do it once and that's it. This is not 10 miles total, it's closer to 13. Going there is an all uphill battle the whole way, then you get to an area where you have to be careful and traverse a decent amount of rocks. Once you get to the end the lake opens up and your thinking, "Yay I made it!" Then you realize the place is packed with lots of people all camping within 50 ft if each other because the lake is garbage and is completely surrounded by rocks funneling everyone into a small area with only 30 ft of lake access. I like to do overnight back pack trips to get away from people, not squished into a little area surrounded by people. So over all this trail sucks and I won't be doing it again.

I went with my fiancé today and had an awesome time. We must have gotten lucky as we got there around 11am and only saw a handful of people. Definitely recommend doing this trail!

This hike is amazing. Not a lot of people head this way, they usually stop at mason lake or Bandera. The incline beginning from Mason Lake is pretty tough, I think equal to climbing Bandera. But all alone I was at the top! On the way down I saw nobody headed to the top.

Beautiful day hike. I reached the trailhead at 9:45 am and it was really easy to find parking there. Once you start the hike, you start gaining elevation around a mile into the hike. The trail gets a little steep for the next mile and a half. The last mile and half are almost flat but quite rocky. The views from the trail are beautiful with very pretty fall colors all around. The lake is beautiful and is a great lunch spot. I spend about an hour at the lake and then headed back. It took me close to 2 hours on the way up, given that I took some breaks to click pictures. On my way down it took me about an hour and 20 minutes. This is more like a moderate-light hike with really nice views and not too crowded.

Beautiful view once at the top. It gets really crowded after 9am.

The effort was 100% worth the reward. Stayed the night next to the lake. Woke up to a beautiful morning. Fall colors were everywhere. Could not have done this hike at a better time of the year.

Great short hike with magnificent views! Only downside is that it is very crowded as most of the reviews have said.

Great hike! It’s a little tricky to get to the far side of the lake where the camp sites are. I had to traverse a steep slick rock face. The lake is beautiful.

Beautiful hike trough the woods and I would say a great trail for multiple skill levels. Ending at the lake was a great place to sit and enjoy the silence. Perfect way to start our trip!

Trail in good condition. Came on a Sunday, turned up at about 2:30pm and there was parking available. It's a simple hike, basically just switch-backs all the way to the top, but the views are absolutely incredible from the top.

Pros: Easy to get to (the freeway is 5 minutes from the trail head). Trail in good condition. Absolutely stunning views from the top.

Cons: Busy, so if you hike for solitude you won't find it here. Trail quite narrow so lots of stopping to let people pass. The hike itself up the hill is pretty nondescript, could be anywhere in the Cascades.
