HikingMuddyRocky

Nice loop from Lake Skannatati out to the open rock faces and glacial erratics at Hogencamp Mountain, returning via the Dunning Trail and Long Path. A few areas of mud in mud-April, and probably a half dozen stream crossings along the way. Almost all of the elevation gain comes early in this hike on the way up to Pine Swamp Mountain. Be careful at Times Square - easy to take the wrong trail.

HikingGreat!

Easy trail with some lovely views. The top of the mountain usually has bird watchers on a nice day. Wasn’t too busy for a Sunday morning. Highly recommend!!

I loved it. One of the best l’ve done. The 360 view from the top was awesome. And the tribute rock pile... very touching. Can’t wait to do it again.

Difficult but fun. Trail could have better marked better towards the end.

Hiking

Awesome hike! Some sections are hard but overall very fun. At the end the trail should be better marked and the alternate underpass is the right way to get back to the lot and not the road crossing on the busy 9W. Lots, lots and lots of bugs/mosquitos. Even if you halt for a moment, they swarm on your face. Almost the entire trail was like that. The 360 view from the top was amazing and made up for everything else.

HikingOff trail

We did the loop on Saturday afternoon clockwise, and it was few people on the trail. The last 1/3 part to the summit was quite challenging, not just because of the elevation, but also, I don’t know why, there was a looooooot of bugs/mosquitoes there. I had to power through to the top. Once I stopped for a moment to catch my breath, the army of bugs would be all over my face. They really pushed me all the way to the summit. Other than that it was a really fun trail.

Hiking

Perfect weekend afternoon hike — a good hill at the beginning (not too crazy but gets the blood moving!), then downhill for a lovely river walk in the second half.

Amazing hike. Some of the best views of all the trails I’ve done in this region and a good mix of climbs and descents.

Gorgeous hike, but much longer than advertised. We got lost once, so we ended up clocking 9.9 miles. And the rain the day before made it a little harder than moderate. The trail also takes you through some tricky water crossings, so wear waterproof shoes. But overall- worth the time.

Great trail! For me, it was definitely difficult. The steep climb towards the top got my heart rate up! But 100% worth it. Love the view. Hiking along the water was pretty as well!

I think it is very important to know about this hike, is that if you will decide to start clockwise like I did, you'll have to be ready for the final part. The hill is very steep ( and that's probably why everyone usually begin counterclockwise ), you'll have to use your legs and knees a lot. And if you will be doing the full loop, the legs will let you know about it :)) Also, I wouldn't recommend to use the map from the start ( again if going clockwise ). If to follow the map, it will make you go on the highway, so, best would be to get right the way on the yellow trail, from wich eventually you will get back on the map. This trail will be amazing during the summer when everything will be green. So many hills and peak views.

Rocky. Loose gravel. Well marked. Easy to follow. We didn’t get lost. Nice view of the Hudson River at the top of Bald Mountain.

Nice trail, good views. Girlfriend fell hard though, couple times, on a steep, rocky descent part that takes place about halfway through the trail. We took a little dog that did fine.

Great trail! A lot of features. Did the hike counter clockwise which we thought was the better route. Added the Brooks Pond loop to extend the hike.

HikingBugsGreat!Scramble

Definitely recommend taking white all the way to the fire tower, then yellow on the way down (counter-clockwise most of the way, but clockwise at the final loop for south beacon). I prefer scrambly ascents instead of descents, so this is what worked for me! Breakneck is fun, the meandering between Breakneck and Beacon is meh, the scramble up to the fire tower is great if you like heights and climbing, and then I enjoyed the peacefulness of the last half of the yellow trail back to the car (lots of water crossings right now!). Clocked in just under 10 miles in 7 hours (I’m slow don’t judge)

Hiking

what a freaking AH-MAY-ZING hike! this was for sureadifficult hike but so much to see and such a variety of terrain! Started out on the blue trail, went up to the Memorial, followed blue back down but got a little lost along the water's edge once we went over the bridge because the markers didn't match the map on all trails. Ended up seeing other hikers on the trail waaaaay below us and hiked back dow (a.k.a. walked and slid down a 45 degree angle all the way down) to the red and white marked trail. this looped right back to the Fort Montgomery parking lot. Great trail! inclines, ropes, rock scrambles, flowing water, bridges, amazing views especially the 360 at the top!!!!

It’s really two hikes/loops next to each other, one is steep, challenging and fun with amazing views and the ropes were a lot of fun. The other is more of a long easy walk which was pretty.

HikingGreat!Muddy

Nice trail, like other follow the gps or markers carefully. There are lot of other trails. People throughout but less crowded than other areas of the park. Saw a black snake and deer. Great areas to stop and eat. Some muddy spots.
