We went early April and the camp grounds was closed, no access by car to the parking lot. That didn’t stop us! The walk to the trailhead was easy. Some snow on the ground in places, but the trail was accessible but very narrow. Steep at first then a gradual incline. We only made it halfway as the was snow covering the entire trail at that point. Great views the whole way up and down the trail. Would recommend during summer.
Amazing find! Hiked at the end of March. River is not super passable unless ur not super smart like us. Was worth it to the springs all to our selves.
The trail is easy and has many options- you can go high or low. I hiked at the end of September and camped at the spots right at the trailhead. Great camping, nice potty, good trail. I honestly didn’t find the hot springs even though I went 3.5 miles in. I saw a bear and was alone and it was getting dark so I turned around but I’m sure they are beautiful. Absolutely no one else out there except I passed a group of hunters.
We didn’t cross the river. I would recommend bringing waders to cross. It looked about 3 feet deep and pretty fast. A few meters downstream it was a bit more shallow. We were going to try crossing on a log but thought it was a little risky.
Don't let my 5 stars fool you. Absolutely terrible. You should avoid at all costs. 'wink, wink'
The trail was great! If you are looking for a more challenging hike this one is perfect. I would recommend bringing enough to camp for the night. It is a perfect overnight spot.
Have hiked this area many times Plentiful wildlife with many surprises saw 20 rattlesnake one weekend. I’m a zoologist and interested in snakes so was looking for them. Please leave the snakes alone
very difficult river crossing. not recomended unless you are equipped to cross the river.
Nice hike, steady incline. Hot Springs were nice and warm. Had to scramble over logs to cross the creek.
Absolutely beautiful!
Awesome. No rattlesnakes in the fall (but cold as hell at night)
Bottom line up front: excellent hot springs, difficult hike. Completed in late October, so your mileage may vary. The drive in on the forest road was not terribly difficult or technical, but might be harrowing if you're not used to steep cliffs on the edge of a narrow one lane snowy/slushy winding and steep road. The hike in was gorgeous and easy until it got to the last half mile. The river flows from a steep canyon of several hundred feet which is 90 degree cliff face on either side and only as wide as the river, which means it turned into less of a river crossing than an upstream river wading. About .25 miles of walking upstream in freezing water (literally, the eddies and waterfall tributaries were all iced over) at knee height was rewarded with coming out the other side to what can only amount to a paradise. a small island with the river on one side, a wall of hotspring showers/pools on the other with a little stream cutting through the middle that was perfectly warm to set your chair up next to and keep your feet warm while you read or eat or whatever. absolutely gorgeous. the hike back was just as scenic, but exponentially more difficult as the trek went along. my actual recording from the app, and personal gps tracked it as closer to 12 total miles (6 from start to hot spring) and the last mile up was steep and absolutely tiresome, and I'm of above average fitness. But that's the fun of it! no one else there, and the payoff is well worth the effort.
Arrived at the trailhead under a crescent moon and clear skies. Awoke the middle of the night to some snow. About 1/2 inch fell and was apparently enough to keep the people away because I saw nobody the whole hike and soak. Fresh bear tracks in the snow mid hike, so be aware. As well as some elk tracks. Sat in the pool at the creek side. Was the warmest to me. Amazing views on the high trail and climb was moderate at best. Will definitely return some day, as I’m from the Midwest.
Left because there were so many people. At least 50 people came and went and we were unable to get into the hot springs. Been going here for 10 years and never saw more than 4 or 5 vehicles at the trailhead. There were 20! vehicles in the lot and parked long the road when we left. It's really unfortunate. Further, the vast number of people and their food has started attracting bears.
Great trail and worth it for the hot springs. Nice creek crossing to get there so I’d bring water shoes
Great trail! Not too difficult and the hot springs didn't disappointed. We didn't see anyone else on the trail on a late Tuesday morning until we got to the springs and then the people there left soon after they saw us arrive. I would definitely recommend doing the high trail both ways. We did the low trail returning and definitely got wet. I'm 5'4" and my legs were wet up to my mid thigh. Had some numb feet and the rocks are pretty slick so proceed with the low trail with caution. All of the streams were pretty wide.
Fall colors starting up, definitely a steep climb at first, then flattens out as you go on. Hot springs are my second favorite, great temperatures, no sulfur smell, very natural feeling
The trail was awesome! we took the high trail in to the springs and the low trail coming back. The review from Jon Bissel was right on with the exception of the water temperature... about 40-50 degrees and crossing the river 4 times at knee height. 30 feet across. Our feet were numb!!!! X4 . Overall great hike we loved it.
Arrived at the trailhead at 9 this morning. Beautiful day and a little cold still heading up, which made the hot springs even better to get into. The hike up was beautiful and a great workout for the legs. Had the hot springs to myself for the maybe two hours I was up there. The only other people on the trail that day was a couple I met in the way down. Hotter on the way down, but felt Great after relaxing up there a bit. Water was awesome, with beautiful views.
