Just a little strenuous and good views. Usually not too crowded.

A beautiful hike with rewarding views. The climb up definitely feels a bit harder than moderate but it’s a much easier return. As some have noted, coming back down all the stairs and downward train can be a little rough on the joints. I’d mark it a 5-star trail if it had more regular alternation between the up and downhills.

If you’re not up for the full hike, within the first mile you’ll have seen most of the prettier landscape.

First time hiking this trail and I really enjoyed it. Got kind of a late start (2:30pm) so didn't run into many people. Took counterclockwise route; glad I did as that was the more strenuous, so got it out of the way! Beautiful views, lots of animal tracks - saw some deer. Will definitely hike it again.

As others have said, it's definitely a steep climb, and I was surprised this hike was labeled as moderate (I couldn't finish and turned back around about halfway through); that said, it's one of the most beautiful hikes I've ever done in the Bay Area -- from the minute you start out you're surrounded by stunning scenery, and every few feet is another gorgeous spot to rest and breathe in the incredible atmosphere. I went fairly early (9:30am) and the trail was really quiet and empty -- on the way out around 11:30 I passed a ton of groups, so I suspect afternoons there are quite crowded. Would definitely recommend to anyone with a moderate fitness level, provided you bring lots of water and are prepared to take a lot of breaks!

nice hike. some trees. a good workout after heart surgery

Nice climb but no way is it 2.7 miles total. Closer to 5-6 miles up and back. Beautiful and green. Water just trickling right now. Need rain!

A fine hike. Good mix of uphill, downhill and some flat. Mostly in eucalyptus forest. The only caution is that the trails are not marked and cell coverage is spotty. So download the map and use the gps when you are unsure - which is a lot.

Great length of hike and definitely I’d rate this as moderate l. Steep dusty uphills are rewarded with nice downhills in intervals. The views along the way are absolutely worth the sweat! Bring a jacket if it’s foggy because on the way back you’ll need it in the areas with all the trees! We’ll do this one again for sure.

Absolutely beautiful hike! I will definitely be back in early spring to see the creek in action as well as the waterfalls and wildflowers.

This trail has it all - wonderful views, awesome gnarly trees, manzanitas, rocky creek bed, and beautiful Mount Diablo. I would classify this as an arduous ascent up the mountain for the first half although, to be fair I haven't hiked in a while so maybe it felt more intense for me then for those who hike regularly.

Great hiking particularly in early spring and fall.

Great hike with great views of golden gate! Make sure to stop by Battery viewpoint! You fee like you are touching the bridge. The beach at the end is awesome! There were a few people there which was super nice :)

Nice trail and mostly uphill. Great workout though and getting to the top is worth it. Gorgeous views when you are able to see them. Bring plenty of water.

Gorgeous views. Awesome beach at the end. Almost no people. A lot of picnic tables with spectacular views.

Outstanding views of the Bay from SF to Martinez. It was a nice cool autumn day, so the exposure was no problem, but if not, make sure you have a hat. Lots of alternative tracks to explore, but you're mostly hiking on the top of the hills so nice views, but not a lot of differentiation. Plenty of hawks soaring!

A terrific little hike! Far more steep than I was expecting (this was hike #2 of the day!), but gorgeous views and enough variety of terrain to make it interesting. I recommend some shoes with very good grip, as portions of this dirt trail can get a little slippery. I was going at a pretty good clip and it took about 90 minutes. If you're looking for something a little longer, I'd recommend combining with the Devil's Slide trail which is right next door. I popped over to that trail briefly and saw whales surfacing!

Very nice and quiet hike with hardly any traffic. Took about 3 hours at a reasonable pace with a few stops. Great views! Some areas have moderate+ gradient, especially around the Falls Trail loop. Better to go clockwise around this loop. The creek and waterfalls were all dry. Be prepared with hat, sunscreen, and plenty of water since it was a hot 90 degrees by mid-afternoon.

This was a quick down and back hike .8 miles each way. My dad and I took a long lunch break on a Friday for this route. going in the middle of the day made for easier parking and it wound up a perfect break from the work day!

Rated as moderate but it’s actually a pretty good challenge

We decided to continue hiking on the first trail to the left, about half way on this trail and hiked all the way out to where it comes back out on the lake. It’s only a few miles but the various switchbacks are pretty killer if you go that way and it is not a loop trail. This was a little while before I got the app so I was not ready for it. Very pretty though!

it was a nice family hike. challenging in a few areas. we never found the water fall :(
but it was a beautiful view

Beautiful views. Lightly traveled trail by hikers and runners. We rode horseback the Miwok Trail first, then the Hardy Canyon. Would suggest the reverse, Hardy first to Miwok. Do the canyon early when the sun is low and then Miwok should be in the shade on the way down. On horseback the Hardy has many sandstone outcrops, they aren't slippery, but very challenging if you are going down them, up would be better. This is not a beginner trail for horses.

Beautiful trail (would be amazing in winter and spring when water was running in the creek), but hikers need to be prepared for the amount of climbing or descending (depending on which way you travel). The 1000 feet of elevation change is accomplished over MANY stairs created with wood, dirt, and rock. While I was able to handle the descent, the uneven wood and boulders were tough on the knees and ankles.

Went today for the first time. It's wasn't so packed as we thought it was. Not alot of bikers or runner, some people here and there. great hike for those who hasn't hike for the longest. It is a great warm up.

This is such a gorgeous trail - right along the ocean and very few people! 20 minutes from the city

At first you go uphill for about 1/2 a mile and then you start heading downhill. You end up at a beach which is BEAUTIFUL! Coming back the road is steep, but not difficult.

Love this hike, and I’m biased because it’s where my husband proposed. ❤️

Nice shaded paths, pretty much dry this time of year.
