Disappointed, mostly a gravel road. Did have an old stone cabin ruin, about 1 mile was a real trail.

Very easy trail, scenic, some wet spots, lots of off trails.
Moderate foot traffic on weeekend.

disappointed. except for 1 mile the trail is a gravel road. It did have the remains of a homesteader cabin and a couple springs.

Starting off the trail you will be in more of a pasture land until you get down by the river. The trees and scenery are great and makes you forget you are close to the city. Downside was the trail was closed down at mile 3 and the park rangers do not have a timeline of when it will be open again. Restrooms were very clean. The sidewalks are very nice, however be careful when wet as they become very slippery.

There is a set of steps that feel like your climbing a wall on this trail but it really gets your heart going.

Nice short hike. The Vista Trail was closed when we went due to heavy rain, so we did the Main Loop. Nice scenery and some cool bonuses like the windmill. Views are okay—nothing too special but you can see bits of San Antonio as you hike.

This is quite an easy walk. Definitely can wear regular sneakers. Bring lots of water. There are a few nice views, and Jones Spring is a beautiful little stopping point. Really glad we did this in cooler weather; the trail is mostly unshaded, so I will avoid this in the summer! The first 2 miles or so are an old road, and as such quite wide and gravelly. This is more walking than hiking. We used Strava to capture as well: 7.9 miles!

This trail is extremely nice! Well kept and very flat for those of us that don’t like difficult hikes. Recently, there was a controlled burn in this area (as of Nov 2018) and this definitely impacted the appearance of the trail. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it looks a lot less green! Great trail for dogs and we saw horse tracks, so people are using the trail! Came across many others that were appearing to enjoy this area of the park as well.

Very rocky

Most of the back country trails were closed, so we opted for this nice walking trail. it would perfect for a trail run or just for a evening stroll. there isn't anything super spectacular about it, but it is pretty and I saw tons of butterflies. Trail is flat with only a few rocks here and there.

Pets allowed?

This trail offers it all! From rivers to forests to deserts to steep hills to historic/haunted sites! The farther you go into the trail, the more peaceful & shaded. There is lots of natural life to see such as flowers, armadillos, & snakes. It's perfect for walkers, hikers, bikers, etc.

I recommend parking on the Highway 16 side & heading west towards Applewhite Rd.

I used to live right down the road & now I'm in Florida & miss this trail so much.

I hike/run at Pedernales State Park regularly to stay in backpacking shape and for overall conditioning. I noticed some people giving one star for the Wolf Mountain Trail because it is basically a dirt road without much shade. I intentionally stay off this trail as much as possible for the same reason. However, one star is too harsh for Wolf Mountain Trail in my opinion. Use the paper map or this app and try out the other trails like Juniper Ridge and Madrone if you want woods and shade. It’s not difficult to make your own loop using the map and avoid wolf mountain. These trails are more technical and beautiful at the same time.

Love this trail! Friedrich is my favorite park in the area and I hike, walk the trails regularly. This trail combo has some challenging areas, but in my opinion is suitable for most fitness levels. The scenery is awesome- the trail is clearly marked and well maintained. Would certainly recommend!

Love this trail. There are paved options as well as natural sections of the trail. Trail is clearly marked, well kept and great for most fitness levels (in my opinion). More traffic on weekends, but I've never considered it excessive ; I hike Eisenhower Park regularly. Would certainly recommend!

starts flat mostly dirt but soon turns into a rocky and interesting ascend. would strongly recommend that you were Trail runners and if you have weak ankles or knees definitely hiking boots. The Descent along the back of the trail is moderate. if the rocks are damp they tend to be slippery and most of the hike is a rocky terrain with loose gravel. hiking poles would be recommended for the Ascend and descend part of the trail. the trail is moderately traveled and expect a good workout.

Amazing trail for walking or running!

Great trails close to San Antonio! I was surprised at how tucked away this feels. Great tree cover, plenty of hills, beautiful views! It felt like I was farther out in the Hill Country instead of so close to the city. Loved it!

Great trail even when a little damp, elevations on connecting trails will leave you in a pool of sweat!!

Very nice paved and natural trails that are well marked. Natural trails are rocky and steep in places. can be slippery if it's been raining! but my dog and I thought it was fun and pretty. lots of butterflies and wildflowers for this time of year.

Awesome, peaceful, great trails!

A few nice paved running trails in this park a several unpaved offshoots for hiking. wonderful smell of eucalyptus trees and some decent views from the lookout tower on the hilltop. I went in the evening after a hot day and the park trails were busy but not overly crowded.

It is an enjoyable trail with a mixed topography of rocks, dirt and exposed tree roots. There are a couple of moderately steep inclines, but not too challenging so children and dogs can make trip. This is my go-to for trail running as well.

Good trail but I prefer more of the wooded trails that are off the beaten path. I found a few while hiking but I would rather do the whole trail through the trees and not on gravel roads. It was fun and a very basic trail. The trail is about 10 feet wide most of the way until you get out towards the far end of the loop. Only saw lizards and birds nothing really interesting but still had fun.

8.96 miles completed.

easy and shaded, good for kids or nighthikes with them.

Great trails with plenty of tree cover and steep hills. We've hiked as little as 2 miles and up to 8 miles. Rocky terrain so wear good hiking shoes/boots.

The park is really pretty and it wasn’t super crowded so that was nice. This trail is nice and moderate but you gotta make sure you look for the signs Bc they are weirdly placed. Bring lots of water!
