Trail, as always was beautiful.
The trail hugs a creek for the first half or so before ascending into a pine forest. Really lovely, not too difficult for a novice who won’t be deterred by a few steep stretches.
Beautiful time of year, good variety of up and down hills and gentle slopes.
Always a beautiful hike along the river, streams and up to Saddle Rock Mountain with great views.
great conditions. some large leaf and pine needle deposits.
Agree on not a trail for children as the narrow edges along creek and ravines are not for the faint of heart. Very good set up for a stroll or a vigorous day of hiking. Marked well and drained well as the rain 24 hours earlier left very few muddy spots. Great views and assorted trail features. Very much worth the drive to experience.
Trail is in good shape, well marked, and maintained. There are a couple of muddy areas and some blowdowns, but all is easy to navigate.
I loved here because there's either a river or creek right next to your trail most of the time. There's 2-3 steep inclines/declines but nothing a novice hiker or dogs can't do! My two dogs (border collie and maltipoo) both loved the 3 hr hike and did amazing. Trail markers are frequent, easy to follow, except one or two points (mid-trail and later 3rd of the trail). When I was confused, I just went back to the previous marker to make sure I was on the correct path. When it's less frequent, I just made sure to stay on the pathway and eventually the next mark showed. Just gotta stay awake :) Definitely will go back!
I got to a point where the trail was not well marked and I couldn’t find the next trail marker so I turned around. Otherwise well kept and beautiful
This area nestled about a part of secluded Lake Martin is a gem. It’s full of bluffs, pines, and quartz. Yes, it’s on the difficult side of moderate. You might say it’s up hill both ways. Great well-marked trail for us and our Shepherd; very few other hikers today.
Good work out at a little over 8 miles. We started and Molly Hugger parking area. Recommend doing the southern portion of the trail first as it is more challenging. Zig zags and rocks with surprising elevation changes. Northern section of loop not as tough but still challenging as we are in our late 50s.
The trail was beautiful!!! But I would definitely rate it more challenging than "moderate". It's straight up a mountain. The top is beautiful but it was hard. And the smaller trails/map is confusing and not labeled well.
Beautiful hike this morning. The leaves are starting to change colors. Beautiful view from Saddle Rock Mountain.
First time hiking it today and had a great time. Great view at the top and challenging the last mile or so with the up and down. Still enjoyed it but will probably be sore tomorrow .... but worth it.
Very nice trail. Never hiked in Alabama before. Very straight forward, easy to follow. I thought it was gonna be pretty easy but ended up adding a few challenging uphills my girlfriend didn’t enjoy. Great views.
We had a great hike!! Trail was well marked and a great little workout!!
The trail is well maintained and just a great morning hike. Would be great for the kids about 6 and up . My second time hiking this trail and enjoyed it just as much as the. first time. So get outside and enjoy the day. Go hiking everyone!
I liked the distance but I wasn't super wild about the ecosystems we were going through. Petty, I know. Half of it was incredibly dry, the other half was super wet and quite buggy.
