Just finished hiking to Happy 4 campground via the Hoh River trail. Beautiful and secluded. The trail definitely needs its spring maintenance. Lots of large trees down as well as large puddles requiring going off trail. To be expected in February. I would do this trail again, especially with beginner backpackers or kids.
Not sure why AllTrails has us going off the trail? If you have the pro edition and alerts on, it’s gonna go crazy for a while. Only went to Tom Creek. Some muddy spots but overall nice trail. Plan on doing the whole thing in the summer!
Perfect for an easy backpacking trip
Planned on doing this trail to five mile island, but around 4.5 miles in the trail was completely flooded. Other than that, this trail was beautiful. Saw two black tailed deer and made stops along the river. Would love to come back and do this all the way to blue glacier! Trail is very easy elevation wise.
Beautiful trail but monotonous and flat. Grab some friends and enjoy a good conversation!
Backpacked into Lewis Meadows (10.6 miles in) and stayed for one night and then explored the next morning further onto the trail (this was my favorite part was past Lewis meadows). The trail is full of massive trees and so much beautiful moss, but is quite monotonous because the whole trail is not super close to the river the whole time. Lots of mud. At this time of year, some parts of the forest never de frosted. Quite cold. About a mile before getting to Lewis Meadows there was an easy river crossing that we had to wade through because the logs were to slippery due to ice. There was a few river crossings, some of which the logs were extremely icy so use caution!
Did this trail last January and it was absolutely beautiful. Lots of snow and parts of the trail that are snowed out or flooded, but if you’re willing to double back every once in a while to re-find the trail, it’s doable.
Did ~4 miles on this and loved it. Forest is incredible with moss everywhere and trees with massive trunks (10-12' diameter) around every turn. Felt like I was in an enchanted fairie world. started at 9 and not too many people. ran into more groups on our way out. Small detour to the trailhead as they are repairing a bridge near the trail start, but easy enough to follow signs walking down the dead end road towards ranger/maintenance section.
Only walked about 5 miles but it was beautiful! Well worth it some of the trail has a stream running down it so be sure to have waterproof shoes!
Fantastic trail. We were really lucky to have a sunny hike through the different terrains. We did 10 miles RT to the 5 mile island and back. There is a detour to get to the trailhead that will add about a mile to your hike. There is a few fallen trees on the path but easy to get around for my day hike. Waterproof hiking boots is a must because there is multiple streams to cross and tons of mud!
We only did about 4 miles total on this trail because we did some others that day. But it's beautiful
Amazing old growth forest with some of the biggest trees you will find in Washington.
A hike back in time to see what undisturbed nature looks like! We hiked the trail to blue glacier--it was well marked and in great condition the entire way!
