Pretty hike! The directions take you all the way to parking and the entrance gate. You will pass two tunnels and shortly after reach a dead end. Kind of creepy! Easy hike!

Why a 5 rating? It's personal. I need to get in shape for a backpacking trip I plan to do in the near future. This trail serves almost all my needs, save for the 9000 feet elevation, and it's a mile from my house. Switchbacks, Elevation gain, Gorgeous views, it's all here. What is surprising to me is that I might not have discovered it were it not for the Alltrails app. BTW i'm 70 and a half. Old guys rule!

Don’t be misled by the short distance. It’s a steep uphill climb...sometimes up to 35 degree incline...steep all the way and rocky. It’s not too bad cuz it’s short, but it’s a nice little challenging hike.

Nice easy short out and back trail. Not strenuous at all. But a nice little morning nature walk. We took the dogs and they loved it!

Easy short hike. You need to climb some rocks for better views - that can be fun :) parking spot is small and you need to cross the road, so be carefull. we've collected a lot of trash after other people on that trail that day.

Loved the hike! Easy trail up to Mt. Pinos from Nordic Base. We added the 3-2-1 Challenge to our hike and included Sawmill Mountain & Grouse Mountain so it was more of a moderate/hard hike. Beautiful trail past Mt. Pinos. They could use some trail markers as it is easy to get off trail. We had downloaded the gpx map to my watch so we didn't get lost. I'd do this one again. Loved it!

easy hike. great views from the top to the lake. you will have to climb up rocks if you want the nice views. parking is scarce, be careful crossing the highway.

This trail is one of my favorite go to spots to think while walking. Great people and easy to make new friends along the way.

Well maintained trail with excellent views on the lakes. I walked this in late October, out and back in 3.5 hours. Not accustomed to the altitude, so it was more tiring than I expected. Well worth the effort though.

Cute trail through neighborhood.
100% incline @ all times!!

Disappointing amount of graffiti at Hermit Falls. Well trafficked trail. Nice once you get off pavement. Can take the leg off to sturtevant falls loop back on the paved trail to add another 2.5 miles or so.

it takes longer to drive here. Beautiful hike but stop at Potrero John on the way down for a more full filling day.

Great short hike. Steep areas make this a great workout.

It is a pretty hike and gives you a nice incline to get the heart pumping.

A little steep at some points but lots of shade throughout the trail and quite a few resting spots. The rocks are great for climbing and provide a gorgeous view of the lake.

Very nice trail with lots of shade. Went on a Sunday and there's a nice lot for parking. Had our two little ones, 23 month old and 8yr old. They loved it! Only one small thing was there was alot of horse poop but maybe it's not there all the time...definitely worth it.

Very easy trail with a little waterfall at the end. I recommend if you want more of a workout to park at the bottom of the parking lots and walk up the roads :)

Absolutely loved it. The scenery is beautiful and definitely a challenge for beginners.

This place has marked my first trail I found and used using AllTrails. It has so much history around it and the memories I made hiking around this area will stick with me forever. Me and a friend came here at such a perfect moment where it was chilly but not too unbearable to climb around the beautiful scenery. If you plan on coming here when it's cold, would highly recommend what I did and bring a thermo of hot tea or coco. <3

Definitely not an easy hike but it is do-able if you take your time. Towards the end you have to do a little ‘rock climbing’ to get to the top of castle rock but the view is well worth it! I found a long hiking stick up there and it helped me be stable while coming back down. I got a little lost coming down like some people said because the trail isn’t marked well but if something looks like a path it should take you back down. Hopefully haha

Saw a creepy circle with a star in it looked like made with salt as you entered the first tunnel. Found a cool picnic spot with lots of shade on the left. There is what looks like a trail going somewhere off when u follow it there’s lots of trees and shade. See my recordings for exact trail for that. Basic fire road trail not much exploration or adventure in comparison to bridge to nowhere.
*bridge to nowhere go-ers* kinda cool to look at the hike from so high. Wish there would have been a secret connecting trail but there wasn’t.

Completed the hike today with my dog. The first portion of the hike is very easy, almost flat. Once the trail splits, stay to the right. If you go to the left, you'll end up at Haddock Peak.
After the trail split, it leads you up several switchbacks that are relatively steep. The soft ground coupled with fallen pine needles could make it easy to slip. Next time I will bring a hiking stick for extra footing.
Once you get to the peak, you'll see large boulders that you can climb on and get an amazing 360* view. It is absolutely worth the hike. You can see the US Geology markings, and there is a red can with lots of paper in it where people sign and date when they completed the hike, as well as share thoughts, poetry, etc. Make sure you plan this hike with some time to relax on the rocks and soak in the scenic views.
The only other thing I would mention is that there's several paths. If you're a novice, pay attention and make sure you go back the way you came up.

The trail is way over crowded, a lot of trash, parking sucks. it's more of a walking trail than a hike as half of it is a paved road.

Great weather for a hike. So happy that we decided to take this hike. very challenging considering that I'm not an avid hiker. Overall, great experience.

Still has running water down falls but stream trickles out fast through out hike. Falls r fairly busy. Lots of places to hang out at falls area. Perfect for your lil ones did it wait my 4 year old he loved it

This trail definitely didn’t disappoint

What a great hike! I started from the Sturtevant trail and it was a steady but pleasant hike up through the canyon. I only recorded 4.5 miles and ~900 ft elevation gain.

great spot to take the dogs especially if they love water :)

Beautiful trail, 2 miles gradual uphill then back down. Chilly this time of year, should have brought a light sweater. Some lovely birds in the meadow near the top.
