Great hike, not too tough, well marked. Great waterfall

Wife and I hiked this one last Sunday and we will return. The sign at the trailhead says the trail is strenuous, but it is moderate at most so don't be deterred. I'm 69 and not in the greatest shape and I made it just fine. Lots of flow due to the recent rain and temps in the 60's so it was a great day to be on this trail.

Steep with a rewarding view. Make sure you follow the green arrows on the ground after you come to what you might think is the end. That's where the view is.

This trail was pretty brutal and hard on the knees. I definitely recommend trekking poles. This trail seems to be a constant up and down with not much in between! That being said, it's a beautiful trail that offers some gorgeous views once you are on the ridge. The second half of it you go into a rhododendron type cove that's really beautiful and gives you some relief from the climbs. Be careful doing this after heavy rain. Some of the rocky areas are a little treacherous.

great trail, awesome views

Awesome trail all the way around. We went a day after a heavy rain, so the waterfalls were at full force. Beautiful trail, and an easy trail too.

Well worth the incline!!! Easy but rocky at bottom on blue trail then red trail climbs at times pretty steep w some stairs.

You’ll definitely get your heart rate up on this one! Beautiful falls are worth the effort!! Jones Gap State Park can sometimes be hard to get into as there is limited parking. Be sure to go early if there’s beautiful weather!

We parked at the stables and went in November. It was on the tail end of lead season and beautiful.

Some of the reviews/directions are hard to follow on here. Take the main road and use the BUCKHORN GAP trail head. We missed this and ended up three miles uphill.

Once we got on track it was pretty straight forward and the directions made sense. Just make sure to use the correct trail head.

I hiked this with my dog yesterday and went in the reverse direction from what was described above (I started at the visitor center). That direction is more challenging with some steeper climbs that are difficult rather than moderate. I was disappointed that there were not any scenic view points, but it was a gray sky day so I probably wasn't missing much. There were plenty of stream crossings so I didn't need to carry water for my dog. The hike was good exercise at least.

Great trail. Fairly challenging. Started on Old Mac North to Chimney Rock for 11.2 miles. Only complaint was that Chimney Rock was poorly marked in some areas.

A good workout.

Great hike!

This hike has it all, several waterfalls and amazing views! Explore the whole area and be sure to continue all the way to the top! The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because it is right by the interstate and you can hear cars, otherwise it would be 5 stars!

Very pretty and quiet trail. Never figured out the loop. Hiked about 4.5 miles up the mountain to find the trail is a dead end. Whoops.

Gorgeous views of the river the whole hike. Camp here and check out the other trails!

When you get directions from this app for the trail, the location spot leads you right to where you should park. It's a very small gravel pullover. There is no designated parking or signs. You will see a couple large rocks. Once you approach the trail and are facing the river, go left. It's a very short trail, and the first half is fairly easy. Took me 40 minutes to get to the top. It is very rocky on the first half of the trail so be careful. There is some graffiti on the rocks in the beginning and some burned out fires, but it's still a gorgeous hike along the way to the top. There are multiple very pretty waterfalls. Once you use the bridge to cross the river you are almost half way. The second half gets harder and consists of some switchbacks. Once you get to the top you get a 360 degree view. About 180 of it is looking at a ridge, but the other 180 stretches as far as you can see. I have done this a couple times and even for a sunrise and it's absolutely amazing. I recommend this for even beginner hikers. Just take your time on the second half of the trail.

Well maintained trail and beautiful falls!

Took my little girl on this trail. She is 6 and loved it. Don’t let the graffiti at the start turn you off. It IS worth it. The bridge could use some work. It’s getting Jankie.

Very nice trail, fairly easy climb. Not to much traffic when we went and trail is well maintained.

Great hike with awesome payoff at the end. My one quibble is the difficulty rating for the hike. This is definitely not a "moderate" hike though a physically fit person shouldn't have too much trouble completing it.

Great Hike! A bit tough, but well worth it!

Beautiful! Hiked to all three falls Nov 10, 2018. Well maintained trail and gorgeous falls.

Did this one after the North and South Old Mac loop. Lots of people and kids playing in the creeks; wide, fairly flat trail. It's worth the time if you're at Frozen Head.

Fun, pretty hike. Not hard, I did it 6 months pregnant!

Great trail - really well marked and maintained. The views were absolutely beautiful and I loved hiking with the sound of the creek and waterfalls nearly the whole way up. I had to wait about an hour to get into the park, but it was well worth it. If you're going on the weekend, I would advise getting there before 9.

Pretty walk in the fall season. Walk is on a well maintained dirt/rock road. Look for the trail sign that will lead to the falls. We missed it and kept walking on the road. We heard the falls and realized we were not on the right path. Path to falls is a single wide trail.

beautiful hike and impressive waterfall

Really fun trail with lots of creek crossings!
