very nice, cute little trail. if you have a family with kids, it's a nice outing. beautiful area and nice biking trails nearby. I wouldn't recommend bike's on this trail however. does cost $5 to get in state park.

Mediocre hike. The falls are pretty in the fall!

Great family hike with serene waterfalls. Friendly trails.

Beautiful trail.

This was fantastic for a shorter trail. The super dense woods were beautiful and peaceful.
There are fire rings at the camp sites for anyone who dares to backpack in firewood.
There's a group of five sites near each other in one of the camping areas, but only a couple have good access to the lake for water.
The one site that is by itself (3/4 mile from the others) has access to water and it's own biffy (there's one for the five sites to share).
Piknic tables at every site as well.
Went on a Thursday night and didn't run into anyone backpacking or camping.
Bugs minded their own business.
The bull frogs were VERY loud at night which made for a difficult night of sleep.
I would definitely hike this trail again with ear plugs for sleeping.

Gentle trail accessible to even the youngest children. Variety of environments in a short walk: small tree area, dunes, lake, and big pine area all with the sounds of the ocean in the distance. Watch out for mosquitoes and poison ivy.

Great easy hike. Enjoyed it very much.

Easy hike; well marked course. Both falls are worth the trip; definitely take a dip in the water.

Rustic trail so fun to adventure on. Would be awesome to see when river is running higher. I’ll be back to see it then

Great trail! Love the waterfalls! Def will be getting your feet wet!

Clearly marked for Blue Hen falls. go past the end of trail sign, be prepared to cross water and if it has been raining you will get wet feet. Trail is not marked but it's relatively clear where to go. Fun trail, especially with a dog!

Great path, easy to navigate. The campsites by the lake are pretty, we just stopped for lunch. The trail felt safe, we saw a few other hikers with their dogs but it’s not crowded. I have a big dog and he did fine, it’s nice and cool in the woods and he dipped his paws in the lake when we got down there. You do have to pay $5 at the self serve station across the street from the trailhead.

Really Beautiful Hike. Wasn't too hard at all!

Great trail clearly marked. So peaceful

Pretty enough hike. Definitely keep going past the “end of trail” sign for the second fall. Not much in the way of trail markings but easy enough to see how to go. Both falls were not much to see on the day we went. Fun for the walk in the creek bed.

Quick and accessible trail leading to a beautiful water fall.

This hike really is two parts, the really pretty waterfall right at the beginning and then a trek through the woods following the stream. Both are interesting but plan for a short hike if you are only interested in the waterfall.

Enjoyable trail for biking. We needed to get out of beach wind and this was the ticket. My wife navigated just fine and she's slightly better than a beginner. Unfortunately, our ride ended in disappointing fashion as our car had been broken into while we were on the trail. Hard lesson to jog the brain - don't have anything of value in your vehicle.

Nice deep woods trail.

Very pretty, looks like a scene from Tolkien’s Middle Earth.

So I would like this trail more if there wasn’t so many people out there all crowding around the falls. It’s hard to take pics when everyone else is taking photos and videos and live tweeting and Instagram and tumblr and whatever else they use to show their friends what they are doing. I just walk through the river to get to the Buttermilk Falls. Just make sure you wear non slip shoes and don’t mind getting wet. It’s very beautiful here. Here’s a tip. Climb to the top of where Buttermilk Falls are and you will get to the ski lodge. There’s no one there so it’s interesting to see when it’s empty. Great photo opportunities too.

Floods pretty often and you won’t be able to walk out to the lookout. Still worth visiting and making the attempt

Beautiful view of turquoise waters! The trail starts at the level of the beach where I snorkeled but didn’t see much, only seagrass. The hike got higher and higher to where the waves crash on the cliffs. It’s a very hot hike and I probably would have passed out from the brutal sun if it wasn’t for the cool gusts of ocean wind the entire time. Not much as far as shade so be prepared with a hat, sunscreen, and lots of water. Pretty cool cacti and birds on the trail.

very cute and very easy to hike! however the majority of it was flooded after heavy rains the few days before we went so we didn’t get to see all of it, only reason i did 4 stars and not 5, but i saw a gator so that’s cool! definitely want to go again when i can walk the whole thing!

Make sure you go past the "End of Blue Hen Trail" and out another mile to the even better falls. Even today with all of the rain and snow lately the path was fine, but the water level was a bit higher than normal so we had to find alternate path.

A bit difficult (in comparison to other paths around) and muddy but an awesome trail!

Nice trail along the inner marsh with white sand dunes and pine trees. Please stay off the sand dunes and respect the signs that point out the trail. It forms a short loop easily done in 20 minutes. Great for the family. Some shade once you hit the pine trees, and open sun when you're in the dune area. Be sure to wear footwear you don't mind getting sand in!

A great lightly traveled trail with a major payoff at the end and plenty of challenge along the way. Wear waterproof boots!

Very pretty and easy hike

Quick 1/6mi hike to blue hen falls

Can be slippery around either falls in winter. Getting down below either falls to take pictures should be done with care due to steep areas. It’s better to go a bit down stream and work your way back than to risk a fall. Can be muddy or wet. Crossing stream is required to get to the lower falls.
