I wouldn't do this trail again.

We are in pretty great shape, but my wife wanted to turn back with about 2 miles left because we didn't know if we'd have a better route back down.

I liked how hard the trail was and could have completed, but this trail had a lot of challenges midway through that were not our favorite:

- The swarms of wasps was disconcerting and too frequent for our liking. It made it difficult to enjoy the light stream at all.
- The first overgrowth section was about a mile of swatting bushes out of your face.
- The second overgrowth was several miles in and it was low shrubbery that tore up your legs.
- The scenery and "wildflowers" were pretty blah.

If you're going for a challenging hike, enjoy overlooks, and are well equipped for the rough terrain, and don't mind a lot of overgrowth on your hike, enjoy!

*We hiked just under 10 miles total of this trail according to Google Fit.

on Wheeler Creek Trail

This hike starts off next the river but looses it about 1.5 miles and it gets hot! We started in the morning but by afternoon there wasn't a lot of shade. I was confused by the trail markers, I was looking for wheeler trail but in the middle of the hike all you see are signs for Maple or icebox. I just kept going south in hopes of going the right way. We didn't make it to the end because we ran out of time, maybe someday in the fall.

I love this trail for a good run! Beautiful views along the mountainside. I couldn’t see a whole lot due to the fires. But this would be a perfect trail when it is clear and when the sun is setting.

Nice and cool along the creek.

Awesome trail, lots of shade. About a mile up it opens up a bit with a ton of ferns that guard the path tightly for half a mile or so. I would like to go all the up and take Malans down. Looks like 10 miles and 4800 ft up

This trail is awesome! I can't believe I've lived in Ogden most of my life and never tried it out before. We only hiked about 3 miles of it, but it was beautiful and mostly shaded. Very easy trail at the beginning, but I've heard it can get steeper and harder the further you go (will update when I have more info). This would be great as a beginner mountain bike trail. I plan to come back and try it out for that.

Only went 3 miles, nice hike.

Easy trail, but holy cow the views are incredible. This was the trail I used to break in my new (to me) FJ Cruiser and it performed perfectly. I saw some cars going up the first half of the trail, but when you see the fork to Francis Peak, that's where they are probably turning around.

Took longer than expected but worth the views. Bring water and snacks. Snowpack made some parts a little challenging.

Really good day hike if you go 1.6 miles and back really beautiful green. Reminds me of a jungle. After 1.6 miles it raps around and fallows The top all the way to Mount Ogden. Warning not much water after 1.6 miles recommend boiling or filtration.

This was my very first off-roading experience in my new-to-me Outback. The Farmington (north) side had been recently graded and was fairly smooth. The Bountiful side was much bumpier and rutted but still not a problem. The peak is at 9k feet elevation so be prepared to get out of breath. To top it all off, we caught a gorgeous sunset while at the top. Absolutely gorgeous!

Easy hike. Lots of horses on the trail so be aware. :)

Great hike, especially for warmer months as there is a lot of shade along most parts of the trail. It’s pretty popular with bikers, but it’s great for a casual hike.

Rattlesnakes are out already.

Great steady incline with beautiful wildflowers. My small dogs and kid can do it so it’s pretty moderate for sure.

Got 1/3 of the way up and had to turn around. Still closed for winter... We’ll be back in a month.

Great local trail but also a favorite for hikers so early morning is the best time to avoid the crowds

Great 2 mile hike if you go to Nort parking lot and back and don't take the full loop. it was pretty, and an easy hike with kids. I just didn't enjoy how extremely heavily trafficked it was. However, it is very dog friendly!

Easy to follow trail, overgrown and rougher terrain after the crossing around mile 2. The saddle is 2 miles further than shown, but significant snow fields make the trail invisible for now.

Great hike

Had a bad day, work was a pain, hit the trail to work some stuff out.. heard this was a busy trail, only passed one runner. Saw a moose, rode it, day got better.

All but the last 1.4 miles are a dirt road, otherwise it would get 5 stars. Nice hike that is a bit less traveled especially that last 1.4 miles. The signage for the trail system is really good too!
